Fat girl summer - let's slay 💅

So, for those of us who are chunky yet funky, what's the plan ladies?

Shall we give no fucks and wear nice comfy summery clothes or do we worry about keeping every inch of us covered head to toe in black until we sweat so hard we melt? What's the plan?

Currently a size 20/22 myself, unlikely to get down to a magical size 14 by July so I'm looking at the nice comfy looking linen pants, few maxi dresses, shorts because I'm a wee chubby pale rebel and to really go wild a jumpsuit or two.

Simply be has some lovely things at the moment including shoes, asos curve is looking alright and vinted is my best pal.

I'm 35 for a few more months and don't want to have another summer in my 30s hating my body, so this year I'm going to embrace it. Anyone with me?

This is the thread I have needed! I am Size 20/22 and after a really lovely swimsuit to wear to Greece. Heard good things about Cupshe but was disappointed to see online that they only go to Size 18.

I swim most days. Just off to the beach for a swim now. I've got a few swimsuits 😆

I'm 20/22

I get swimsuits from Snag & Asda/George.

Manners London has some gorgeous swimwear but it's a bit out of my price range.

Sadly my fav ever swimsuit was by Snag but it didn't get made again this year which was a shame.

delilabell · 23/05/2024 08:37

@wondabar Laura addlington (can't remember if tjats her surname but she's been mentioned up thread) has just done a thing on Instagram about swimsuits and she swears by next.
@SpottyBumPony you look fab! Love the tucked in look. I wish I had the confidence
@Lwrenn your friends asking why you were dressed like a twat tickled me. Thank you for starting this thread. I might not be commenting much but in reading everything.

I have a cross body bag but the strap just doesn't feel quite long enough. Does anyone have a bag with longer straps? I can't do the up high bags cos I've got big boobs and the thought of it makes me sweat.

Can someone drop me some ideas for a wedding guest outfit at a country house? Size 24 and above average height!

I've got an amazing swimsuit from Prima Donna, the underwear brand. It was very ££ but worth it IMO. I did get it in the sales & will continue to keep an eye out for them!

I got a couple from Landsend and can really recommend.

Manners Asri dress arrived (just 2 days after ordering) and it's a keeper, hoorah! Good fit and length (very unusual for me) and comfortable to wear. Quite a thick fabric. I love the colours and pattern. I think my nipples can be seen a little and it shows a deep cleavage but hey ho! I reckon I will feel good in it for our extended family beach trip for which my wardrobe is bothering me! I got the L and am a 16-18, probably more 18. It's stretchy so I think it will still be good if I lose or gain a stone.

Many thanks for the recommendation.

I'm still loving this thread. I treated myself to some nice FitFlops ballerina pumps the other day. I needed something to wear with skirts other than sandals and I realised that I wasn't wearing my lovely skirts because they look ridiculous with trainers. Had previously balked at the idea of spending so much money on teeny shoes but am prone to plantar fasciitis so have to have good support. Am chuffed with my teeny shoes! And a bargain on Amazon as nearly half the price of the FitFlop site. @Lwrenn See how you are inspiring us???!!! 😍

GoingDownDown · 23/05/2024 14:21

@valensiwalensi I was going to recommend Monsoon but I was beaten to it 😀

Studio 8 is my other wedding go-to. I find them properly cut for larger bodies - things like straps being thick enough to hide a wider bra strap which many of us are likely to wear. They have some ombré dresses too, and lots of other wedding suitable bits.

I swooshed my size 22 belly to a meeting today in a new linen-y long skirt and t shirt today. With from Next.

The clothes felt great, I had a denim jacket on too and (when I got pulled over by the police for not having insurance but I actually do have insurance so it all got sorted out) the police officer said I didn't look 40!

Look at how gorgeous you look with that top tucked in! Right, I will be brave and try it soon!

GoingDownDown · 23/05/2024 14:25

@Lwrenn he does say I look sexy as his go to complement. But he also thinks trains are "dead sexy" so that's humbling 😂

I proper snort-laughed at this 😂

I am loving this thread. I’ve had a bit of money saved labelled “clothes” for months, you’ve inspired me to spend some of it on some lovely stuff!

Hecatoncheires · 23/05/2024 14:42

@Chewbecca Did you get the regular length Asri dress? And what colour? I'm still swithering as it's such an expense but - heck! - I deserve it.

Chewbecca · 23/05/2024 14:57

I got petite regular, it comes to the lower part of my calves. I am only 5ft though. All the pinks was the colour I chose and it is gorgeous!

He didn't speak for years my wee lad and then he just came out with sentences, he said to my partner, " daddy I love you" and dp was very emotional and my son asked after this beautiful moment we didn't expect, "are you sad because you have shit hair?"

He is wonderful 😁

If how you look bothers you then I don’t suggest pants for an overweight short person. I am slightly overweight and short and I prefer dresses that “hug” my body and give me a figure

Love this thread and am working my way through the links!

I also love swimming in the sea in the summer - have got this swimming costume which is the best one I've ever bought - it actually fits and has really good bust support 😁 https://snagtights.com/products/swimsuit-phone-home-hot-pink

That is my fav one too!!! I have it in black and pink. Sadly they don't have it in black in my size anymore as I would buy another one/two/three.

Its the best swimsuit I've ever worn.

I love you're happy with how you look! Truly makes my heart happy hearing people happy with themselves. I had a little girl in summer, she's not even one yet but I'm trying now to make sure she's raised on me Modelling self love, so she never needs to struggle the way some of us have!

That’s really nice! I hadn’t looked at Snag because I didn’t like the first swimsuits they did, didn’t realise they had such a good selection now.

BloomChic is worth a look for swimwear. They have lots of shapes of shorts, skirts, dresses, short tops, long tops. I haven’t tried their swimwear, but i have a few of their tops and rate them.

I am loving this thread. I need to find jeans with stretch in them. Fat face have changed the style of the ones I've worn for years!

I'm a size 22/20. Huge tummy and the rest is proportionally smaller. Any suggestions welcome.

I LOVE this thread!! OP, thank you for posting it...everyone else, thank you for all the lovely links and ideas. I was reading through some it last week, and had been trawling clothing ideas for the upcoming holiday I'm taking the kids on. I'm completely out of touch with what suits me as I used to be so slim before I had kids (so could wear anything), then managed to maintain a 10/12. In the past 5/6years, the ex walked, peri has hit me hard and I'm now a lot bigger than before (and have lost my confidence). All my old clothes don't fit.

On the back of this thread, I bought a pair of shorts the other day (I haven't worn shorts since my 20's), because fuck it...I want to be able to enjoy the summer too. They've got the built in cycle shorts underneath (stops the chub rub) but they're fab and comfy and I wore them to town (!) on Saturday when the weather was nice (I've not had the confidence to wear anything short in years). Also bought some colourful dresses/skirts :)

I'm addressing the peri stuff etc, but that's for another thread! Thank you so much for this thread :D
