Fat girl summer - let's slay 💅

Lwrenn · 15/05/2024 18:56

So, for those of us who are chunky yet funky, what's the plan ladies?

Shall we give no fucks and wear nice comfy summery clothes or do we worry about keeping every inch of us covered head to toe in black until we sweat so hard we melt? What's the plan?

Currently a size 20/22 myself, unlikely to get down to a magical size 14 by July so I'm looking at the nice comfy looking linen pants, few maxi dresses, shorts because I'm a wee chubby pale rebel and to really go wild a jumpsuit or two.

Simply be has some lovely things at the moment including shoes, asos curve is looking alright and vinted is my best pal.

I'm 35 for a few more months and don't want to have another summer in my 30s hating my body, so this year I'm going to embrace it. Anyone with me?

Mine too! 💅

And me! 😎

This thread inspired me to have a big clear-out of my wardrobe yesterday! I put out any items that were baggy, 'hidey' things, unless I loved them and they were flattering. The things that are left in there look much more appealing now!

@Seaside3 that’s a great account to follow.
One issue for me. I’m likely to buy some of her ideas. And I’m not sure I can justify it 😁😁

SpottyBumPony · 22/05/2024 18:57

I swooshed my size 22 belly to a meeting today in a new linen-y long skirt and t shirt today. With from Next.

The clothes felt great, I had a denim jacket on too and (when I got pulled over by the police for not having insurance but I actually do have insurance so it all got sorted out) the police officer said I didn't look 40!

I did a sheep and bought the Asri dress too! I bought the L, I’m a small 20 so it might be too small anyway.
I like medicated talc for under my tummy - Curticura is the best.

I love that outfit, looks lush on you!

Seaside3 · 22/05/2024 19:47

@LakeSnake I think a lot of her outfits are fairly easy to copy with cheaper alternatives. And she does do capsule wardrobe ideas.
I think she looks.amazing.

Chewbecca · 22/05/2024 19:48

Tucked in and belted looks great on you.

Seaside3 · 22/05/2024 19:49

@SpottyBumPony you look amazing x

@Lwrenn I'm howling at you here, like pure belly laughing I'm so glad I clicked on this thread, you're a tonic.
I'm 53 in a month, 5'5" and peely wally! Im a 16-18. Big belly, big boobs basically an apple shape. I'm a Vinted addict! Thank goodness because I've gotten some lovely things new for so little.
I never know what suits me, my ex says I remind him of someone bohemian, in floaty dresses and barefoot lol. I admit I like that look. I've decided I'm not giving a flying f@k this year what people might think of me.
Who uses fake tan? I'm so sh
te at doing it but came across Coco and Eve and I've ordered it. I'm thinking if I'm not as transparent it will give me a boost.
I've got one pair of Linen trousers but I ordered in a size 18 and although the waist is comfy, the legs are so baggy 🫥
I'd love just easy dresses and outfits that don't make me feel claustrophobic or I'm wobbling about. Nothing seems to look right on me in the summer, I'm always sweating, bra too tight, pants too panty lol. I look at older women effortlessly floating like wee rays of sunshine in nice simple dresses or t shirts and cropped trousers and I look like I've just fallen out a wheelie bin 😂
I've been making a bit more effort with my appearance. I've got a chronic illness so I do find it hard to be consistent.
Daisy eau so fresh is a nice perfume OP for summer. Or I like Chloe rose tangerine too.

I'm glad you clicked too!

Fake tan and I have a bit of history between us so I'm planning to steer clear now until I can be trusted to not dye my house, bedding, towels, partner and the kids orange again. Even my pals said I looked like the orange filter, but in the defence of fake tan, I have only ever used the cheap stuff from home bargains 😂
Do let us know how you get on with yours! Heck, I even dyed my toenails. Not sure how I managed, but I looked like I'd been rolling cigarettes for 80 years, just with my feet!

I love the bohemian look and it seems lots of us are wee closeted hippies! I adore that relaxed beachy vibe but I'm convinced that if I tried that look I'd potentially look like a social worker from the 90s. I don't have a very elegant/boho face or sound.
But I'd love that as a mini revamp, lots of flowy dresses. I remember when sienna Miller became famous when I was a teenager and I desperately adored her style and I wore a big white maxi skirt and belt and my friend asked me why was I dressed like a twat and it's stayed with me 😂

I'm going to write down all the perfume suggestions and go ham in a big boots when the kiddos are back at school 😁

I genuinely laughed out loud with this 😂I get this! I love boho style, but I think it suits me best a classical/symmetrical cut? I've been through so many rabbit holes regarding typing styles and that kind of stuff 😆

I'm also 35, actually pregnant (for at least one more week 😚) with my second child and use a size 48 in Europe (I'm guessing it's a 20 or 22 in the UK?).
My body is fairly symmetric but very thick and super white 🙃Last summer I began to wear summer dresses: I started with long but colorful ones, and I think I did a good job of swallowing my insecurities: I mean, I felt totally insecure but my little one loves dresses and loved seeing her mum in flowery dresses so that gave me strength 😚This summer I'll be postpartum, so I'm soaking up the brilliant energy in this thread to give me confidence! 🌞

Seaside3 · 22/05/2024 21:51

Hello! Today I placed an order for this. Its fir a wedding night do and an ul coming 5oth (separate dos) I may have lost my mind, or I may have found a dress that actually looks good. I'm an hour glass ish shape, but with a belly. My shoulders are fairly narrow, so I prefer them to look a little wider to balance out my hips. And my bingo wings could literally fly a jumbo, so I'm hoping this covers them, whilst showing my weakling wrists.

I suspect I'm expecting too much...

I'll let ya'll know. Link below, if you fancy a gander.

Bought this in H&M in Berlin last week as it was roasting. Love it so much! Cool and comfy and hides my knees Grin I'm a size 20 and the XL is super loose, L fits nicely too. I've bought a couple more in different patterns since we got home (green floral was the original one I got)

Viscose tunic dress - V-neck - Short sleeve - Black/Patterned - Ladies | H&M GB

Knee-length tunic dress in an airy viscose weave with a band collar and a V-shaped opening at the front. Loose fit with gently dropped shoulders, short sleeves and a straight-cut hem with a slit at ea...

Casual wear - what do you wear when you want to be casual but still feel nice?

I have an apron belly and can’t tuck in and don’t feel confident enough to wear fitted

wondabar · 23/05/2024 01:14

This is the thread I have needed! I am Size 20/22 and after a really lovely swimsuit to wear to Greece. Heard good things about Cupshe but was disappointed to see online that they only go to Size 18.

wondabar · 23/05/2024 01:17

Whoops - posted before I finished! Cupshe has to Size 18 and has a plus size range which only has 4 non-descript frumpy looking costumes listed. I want a flattering yet stylish costume and definitely after a one piece!

Keep up the confidence from you're little lass! It'll help you so much.
One of my dc is autistic and if I ever dress nicely or put my face on he gets very suspicious, "Oh no, where the hell are we going now?" Type questions but he does say I look sexy as his go to complement. But he also thinks trains are "dead sexy" so that's humbling 😂

One more week, excellent! Less sweaty during summer for you! 😁

@Serenity45 @Seaside3 serenity i love that dress, it's in my basket now 😅
Seaside the link didn't work, so I'll Google in a minute but I love h&m, they've really upped their game the last few years! When I'm a millionaire (I'm planning on winning big, not sure on what but one day, if I do I'll take us all on a holiday!) But when I'm loaded I'm going to get loads of the stuff for my new house from the h&m home section, it's so calming and lovely! Similar to zara but not as expensive.

@wondabar have you got a certain style in mind? Asos curve has some nice ones, river island plus do also on asos and simply be has some excellent costumes. I believe matalan has decent one pieces, my friend with very big boobs, (the kind that give her back ache and make buying clothes difficult) was telling me she found a lovely costume for her hols in matalan. I am very on the fence with shein because I've had some crap from there but also nice things, but there costumes are lovely on the pictures. I got my favourite costume from vinted, it's got no brand label but it was never worn and 2 quid, can't complain really 😂

If you're on instagram, I like Molly Campsie, she's a size 18 and always looks really smart.

Also please check out Boden & John Lewis for bigger size swimsuits that actually hold you in/up.

Can someone drop me some ideas for a wedding guest outfit at a country house? Size 24 and above average height!
