I'm a terrible person

So not for the first time I saw someone today wearing something I also own..
A dress
One of my favourites
Cool, comfortable and classic I thought- a summer staple
But they looked awful in it

I have come home and put it in the charity bag. I can't unsee it! But now feel a terrible judgey person but can't get over it.

Is anyone else also this loathsome?

MILTOBE · 11/05/2024 16:45

Do you and the other woman have similar figures?

Why do you think you're loathsome?

LunaNorth · 11/05/2024 16:45

I did it with a Marks and Spencer’s coat about twenty years ago.

On a related point, it never ceases to amaze me how rarely I see people in clothes I own. You’d think there’d be replicas everywhere, but no.

Moveoverdarlin · 11/05/2024 16:46

I bought a denim summer dress a for summers ago, light blue sleeveless with a zip up the front. Nothing fancy, perfect for a summer day, school run, running errands. Nice with sandals or white trainers. Came home, went on the Daily Mail and Gemma Collins had it on. It did put me off I have to admit.

PiggyPlumPie · 11/05/2024 16:48

I've done similar in store, admiring an item then an older woman picks it up and I'm out of there!

Allwelcone · 11/05/2024 16:48

Well at least you didn't tell her OP!!

GrandHighPoohbah · 11/05/2024 16:50

I have to say, I don't really see the logic in getting rid of your dress, because someone else, who you don't know and will probably never see again, looks bad in theirs. Maybe you have different shapes and it suits you but not her.

Betsylee · 11/05/2024 16:51

I've done this when I wasn't particularly keen on the item anyway.
As you liked it,try it on again and take a few photos, you maybe pleasantly surprised!
Not everything suits everyone, so maybe it just didn't suit that person.

ReadySetSit · 11/05/2024 16:53

I’ve done this with a whole style of dress a couple of years ago. The floral midi dress and trainers look. I was a big fan.

I’m a tall hourglass and after seeing a woman who looked just like me in that style, I realised how ageing and unflattering it was and stopped wearing that style altogether.

GlitteringUnicorn · 11/05/2024 16:53

Yes we are different shapes- I'm 5ft10 she was probably 5ft and bigger but sorry the damage has been done!

OP posts:
D20 · 11/05/2024 17:01

If I see a product online and ‘46 people have bought this item in the last 24 hours’ it makes me want it way less than I did before.

LilacpointMummy · 11/05/2024 17:03

I've done the same OP! A couple of years ago I saw someone in a Tu jumpsuit (so not expensive) I had and she looked awful.

I went home and put it in the charity shop bag, thinking well I don't want to look like that 😆

Oh well if you're 5ft 10 you will be able to wear anything! I would not have given it away but then I've never seen anyone wearing the same clothes as me. Not even once.

Mabelface · 11/05/2024 17:06

I don't give a fuck what others wear, nor do I care what others think of my clothes.

Just wear what you like that feels good on you. That's all that matters.

Bignanna · 11/05/2024 17:24

I saw the actress who played Liza Dingle in Emmerdale in a top like mine, and I couldn’t wear it again. Silly, I know!

Mercurial123 · 11/05/2024 17:52

Sorry, that's ridiculous, OP.

AbbeFausseMaigre · 11/05/2024 17:56

I had an item of clothing I was quite fond of but was completely ruined for me when I spotted it being worn by the terminally unstylish Anne character in Motherland.

ComfyButFrumpy · 11/05/2024 18:02

Youre reminding me of the office secretary at work, years ago.
We had very similar taste in clothes. Both regular buyers of good quality items.

I can't tell you how many times she'd say to me, 'oh, I love that top/dress etc.. I have the exact same one..but in size 8.

😒

Wow. You realise you’re dismissing your future self here. There are incredibly stylish women of all ages.

An older woman! The horror! God we really hate ageing females in our society, don't we? I wonder why.

BusyCM · 11/05/2024 18:12

Hmm god forbid older and fatter women wear clothes 🙄

Nonewclothes2024 · 11/05/2024 18:13

This happened to me last week 😬

Confused older ??

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 11/05/2024 18:27

Did you see me OP? As if I ever see anyone in clothing I own they always look far better than I do!

Pollipops1 · 11/05/2024 18:29

It’s normally the other way around! People buying the dress and thinking they look like the model/celeb/influencer in it!
