I think Kate looked beautiful today. I love navy and white; it looked so crisp and stylish.

Maireas · 15/06/2024 14:49

It does look crisp and stylish. I liked the hat and the large bow on the dress. I normally don't like fussy details, but it actually looked quite chic.

Lovely outfit and hat.

Sending good wishes to James (is he the Earl of Wessex now?) who clearly has got a GCSE on Monday!

Edited

I noticed his absence too. Do we know if he is a day boy or boarder? I was so relieved to see that Louise moved to the other side of the carriage for the ride back otherwise she would have been drowned!

Choux · 15/06/2024 15:10

The dress is Jenny Packham and similar to others she has worn which is a smart move when you want to minimise time spent on fittings etc. She can try on the others which the designer will already have the exact measurements of and then say which one she wants it to fit like. The design details like the black and white ribbon details could be decided from pictures or over a zoom call.

I understood that both Louise and James were day pupils; I know that Sophie used to be seen doing the school run. He could have changed to boarding though. I don't know. Or stayed in to watch the footie!

The black shoes with the gappy sides and little bow on the back she's wearing with the previous white dress were gooorgeous and so glam.

Maireas · 15/06/2024 16:55

Are those the very elegant Aquazzura shoes, Chewy?

OP posts:
Chewbecca · 15/06/2024 16:57

Yes, those! So elegant. And miraculous anyone can walk straight in them.

Maireas · 15/06/2024 16:59

I have no idea how they do it. Sometimes on cobbles, in the rain! I do fear for them, sometimes.

According to the telegraph, it’s the same dress

Personal best from Sophie ! I didn't know she was 59, she looks great. Not a fan of Camilla's giant clutch bag though.

Choux · 16/06/2024 07:47

Sophie's chest looked properly supported. The only thing I didn't like about her outfit was the big flappy sleeves at the wrist. I would have preferred a regular sleeve.

Camilla's bag had an almost handcrafted, holiday souvenir look about it and she had it with her on the balcony when no one else had their bags out there. She was practically hugging it.

I was also struck when looking at the photos in news reports that, while Kate was beaming in many, there weren't any photos which really showed the King, Queen or William smiling. Trooping is also known as the King's Birthday celebration and the extended family (including Lady Gabriella Kingston according to Hello) were there for a family lunch. Yet Charles could barely muster a smile on the balcony. There are obviously many explanations - his cancer, his cancer treatment, worry about his daughter in law, his somewhat estranged son and family, possibly also the pressure of being king as an elderly man - but it seemed yesterday was more effort than joy for them.

Maireas · 16/06/2024 07:56

To be fair, Choux, Charles has been very unwell. Yesterday could have been a struggle, although when I watched the BBC coverage, he was smiling on the balcony.
I suspect at one time they possibly wondered if Charles and Kate would make the event. I'm glad they did.

Doesn't Catherine have the same dress in pink that Sophie was wearing in yellow? I seem to remember those flappy sleeves and the neckline from a balcony appearance over the Jubilee.

I was watching live and everyone seemed fairly jolly. Charles got soaked taking the salute outside the palace and the not my king people were right in front of them during the flypast. Lots of emotions I imagine at this balcony.

Oh I am not saying Charles should have made more effort or anything like that. What I mean is that the news reports are saying they were there and it's an encouraging sign / all is good but it looked like it was a hard day on Charles. And therefore Camilla too. And William is likely thinking that he is the next king and his young family is already under strain without adding the pressure of being monarch to all that.

Did you see at the end as they were leaving the balcony, William and Sophie were last to leave and she patted his back as a comfort / acknowledgment. I think there is far more worry about Charles' health than you glean from a quick read of yesterday's press reports. And, unlike William, most of us who are dealing with a sick parent don't have to help do the parent's high profile job as well as worry about them. And that's before you add in his wife's cancer treatment and how that impacts his children. He's going through it.

Choux · 16/06/2024 08:35

@MrsLeonFarrell that's interesting as I didn't watch live so didn't see Charles' smiles and the press I've seen hasn't mentioned protestors.

Maireas · 16/06/2024 08:36

I agree with you, Choux. I did think Charles looked frail - he's usually very robust. I think those problems you outlined above are absolutely spot on.
Nice gesture of Sophie.
