I've just discovered dungarees, I want to buy them ALL

I'm 45, 'too old' for dungarees I expect but I've bought 2 pairs and I love them! They're so comfortable, so practical.

I'm eyeing up summer ones, autumn ones, winter ones. How many pairs is too many? This is all I'd wear now if I could get away with it!

That's a sleeveless jumpsuit, not dungarees.

I have several pairs from Elsie's attic. They are really comfortable and reasonably priced. Definitely recommend.

Fuck me. 🙄

Theunamedcat · 06/05/2024 21:52

Honestly I love them but with my shape they will look awful

Lucy and Yak!

I have 4 pairs of Lucy & Yak dungarees & I'm 62. I love them.

longdistanceclaraclara · 06/05/2024 21:56

I look like a tellytubby in Lucy and yak. Crack on op if you like them.

OldTinHat · 06/05/2024 21:59

I'd like to try them. And jumpsuits. BUT...!! What happens if you need a wee immediately and you're a bit old and can't undo everything in time?! Or you do, and it sits round your ankles on the floor of a public loo in the inevitable puddle??

rookiemere · 06/05/2024 22:04

I have these in black thisisunfolded.com/products/collection-9-kathleen-dungaree-dark-pink this colour looks great but I'm trying not to buy more clothes.

TheMithrasDirective · 06/05/2024 22:07

I love mine and don't care what anyone says. I look great in them. It took a few tries to find a pair I loved and that work for my shape - the Ziggys from Free People. They're soft and slouchy and sort of 90s-looking, which I love. I wear them with a baby tee or ribbed vest under.

Thehalls191 · 06/05/2024 22:12

They're really not difficult to go to the toilet in. Unclip one strap, take your arm out of the other, takes seconds.

@Thehalls191 I’m with you! Love them, I’ve two pairs blue denim and black. Now I wouldn’t wear them to go out somewhere smart but to potter around the house, go to work when being casual is fine. And I get loads of compliments! I’m quite slim with small boobs so I don’t think my figure looks terrible in them. But to be frank I don’t give a flying frog about what my figure looks like 🤣

UnionsFailingWomen · 06/05/2024 22:19

Oh and they are 100 times easier to go to the loo than jumpsuits. But I also love a jumpsuit!

UnionsFailingWomen · 06/05/2024 22:19

@TheExclusiveSandwich - you sound just a delight!

Im 52 and wear dungarees...i love them... it's what u put with them! I wear hi top converse or dr marts. Wore dungarees today
..i think i look great soo

DrJoanAllenby · 06/05/2024 22:21

Dungarees on a mature woman just look like you've given up.

UnionsFailingWomen · 06/05/2024 22:24

@DrJoanAllenby given up on what? You know people can wear one outfit one day and another outfit a different day? So though I may look like I’ve ’given Up’ today in my dungarees, tomorrow I could pass your standard of what a mature woman should wear?

Craftycorvid · 06/05/2024 22:37

Gosh! The old dunga certainly brings out some strong opinions.

Firstly, OP, you can’t buy them all because I already have. 😆

Secondly - for anyone who finds them inevitably unsexy, may I refer you to Felicity Kendall in ‘The Good Life’? Often seen looking hot in dungas.

Thirdly - yes, loo visits can occasionally be a challenge. But dungas are comfortable enough to make up for it.

Fourthly - I hereby do not give the shiniest of shits about any of the following: whether people think I look ridiculous in my dungas, too old, too frumpy, too try-hard, clearly insufficiently vigilant about my weight, or just committing the heinous crime of Not Dressing For the Male Gaze. No male has ever gazed, to the best of my knowledge, and if I’ve given them something to gaze at that upsets their fragile sensibilities - good!

reallyalurker · 06/05/2024 22:40

A friend has these and loves them.

OneRingToRuleThemAll · 06/05/2024 22:43

I have Lucy & Yak and Levis and much prefer the Levis. I get complements every time I wear them.

DrJoanAllenby · 06/05/2024 22:47

Crack on dungaree lovers! 😂

TammyOne · 06/05/2024 22:48

I’m with you OP, I have loads of dungarees. Not a fan of the Lucy and Yak style though, prefer the classic denim styles.
As for not flattering, it’s about finding the right shape. Honestly, I get loads of saucy looks/ compliments from men when I wear dungarees so they must be giving out some kind of vibe!

Sgtmajormummy · 06/05/2024 23:00

18yo DD is talking about getting a pair this summer.
Last year she had strappy chambray jumpsuits with a white T-shirt that suited her so I suppose this is the next step.

They remind me of overgrown 1980s baby clothes. Osh kosh b’gosh.

🤣🤣 exactly. Also men wear some damn awful clobber.... Trackies and nothing said...theres no too old for those comments... because tbh some are overweight and obviously do not use tracksuit bottoms for what they were intended.

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 06/05/2024 23:06

I really love them, and I'm ancient. The best ones to me are the slimline type ones rather than the Tellytubby ones. Try Boohoo or - I kid you not - Tu from Sainsbury's.

Tootiredforallthiscrap · 06/05/2024 23:14

Proves my point. Most of the women on here wearing them are in their 60s. It’s a bit try hard.
