I've just discovered dungarees, I want to buy them ALL

I'm 45, 'too old' for dungarees I expect but I've bought 2 pairs and I love them! They're so comfortable, so practical.

I'm eyeing up summer ones, autumn ones, winter ones. How many pairs is too many? This is all I'd wear now if I could get away with it!

But the price on some is eyewatering. Bloody lovely though.

I think they look great in just about anyone and everyone..... .

Except.me.

I look like i should be repairing tractors in the top field.

This was me when I bought a pair 😄. So annoying.

Illfollowthesun · 06/05/2024 21:01

I love dungarees but I can’t wear them. I’m not usually bothered about flattering clothes, I don’t wear anything fitted and I want comfortable fabric.
But I have a large bust and am generally big and I look like I am in maternity wear. Actually now I think about it, maybe I’m old enough now that I can get away with it!

Thehalls191 · 06/05/2024 21:10

Thanks for all the replies. They're obviously a bit marmite. I think I look good in them but it's the comfort that I really love.

Will have a look at all your recommendations.

They're so comfortable, so practical.

I had some dungarees I loved in my 20s, but now I'm not going to wear anything that makes if difficult to go to the toilet. Comfortable they may be, practical they aint.

I think they look nice whatever your age, but I wouldn't wear them, simply because it would be too annoying to go for a wee. Same with jumpsuits. But if that doesn't bother you, go for it!

it’s my way of thinking too 🙂

bloodyeffinnora · 06/05/2024 21:18

I love dungarees and always get lots of compliments when wearing them,

ValueAddedTaxonomy · 06/05/2024 21:20

Eek, the model in that Jambats image! She looks like one of those apparitions that scuttle towards you in a horror movie, head all at the wrong angle and crawling up the wall.

Churchview · 06/05/2024 21:21

I love them because they're so comfortable (and I'm 60 so am happy with the Grandpa Walton vibe).

mynameiscalypso · 06/05/2024 21:22

I don't really understand the practical thing. Comfort, sure, no waistband is always a bonus! But what are they practical for? As PPs have said, they're tricky when you want a wee.

Tbf they’re what more mature folk think are edgy. And I’m getting on myself. Wore them during lockdown and they did me no favours.

It’s a shame they did you no favours.

a few of the 20 somethings behind the bars I visited at the weekend were wearing them.

Some lovely dungarees there..esp some of the dress ones.
My my god £548...who would spend that?!

https://jambats.co.uk/collections/dungarees have some different dungarees. Well made and the sizing is good.

The Budgie Snugglers pair! Very clever. 😂

I find them easier than jumpsuits as they just slip off my shoulders.

AuraBora · 06/05/2024 21:25

If anyone has found any reasonably flattering styles for an overall slimmish/tall build but fat tummy so let me know :)

Churchview · 06/05/2024 21:26

@mynameiscalypso I find them practical because they don't ride down at the back when I'm gardening. In jeans this happens and I get a 'gardener's tan' i.e. a sunburnt strip across my back between jeans and tshirt. Also, they're very comfortable, like you say, no waistband.

ThePerfectDog · 06/05/2024 21:27

I’m 50, I have three or four pairs (and also a load of junpsuits), I get compliments everytime I wear them. Obviously they’re not for everyone but I love them.

mynameiscalypso · 06/05/2024 21:29

@Churchview Ah, I can see that! Plus pockets to put things in I suppose!

Loads of extra pockets, comfy, stay up, easy to get on and off as no waist band and just a couple of clips.

Adjustable straps, have at any length you feel like. Pockets, to be fair I should have started with pockets, two side pockets, one large front pocket and two back pockets. As no one cares if your hips look bigger in these, the side pockets are generally larger.

I only wear short dungarees so turn up on the legs, or turn down, take your pick. And if you have a plainish pair, wear literally any top you own. It'll suit just fine.

CountFucula · 06/05/2024 21:34

Monki do some nice ones

DramaAlpaca · 06/05/2024 21:37

I'm about to turn 60 and I just couldn't bring myself to wear dungarees. I last wore them as a tall, skinny teen when they did, actually, look fabulous on me, but have zero urge to try that look again. I want to look fashionable but channelling 'cute' isn't my thing.

TheExclusiveSandwich · 06/05/2024 21:42

BreakfastAtMimis · 06/05/2024 18:37

Well, you have two too many pairs already. They're not flattering on anyone over the age of four.

They’re just an excuse for someone who can’t control their weight

Churchview · 06/05/2024 21:43

@mynameiscalypso Oh yes the pockets! I've given up wearing anything without pockets - even my PJs have pockets.

The dungaree bib pocket is fantastic for shopping lists and a pencil.
