Is this nice or is it horrible? I think it’s nice but given it’s from per una (where fashion goes to die) I worry I’ve had a knock to the head

Stepping around the wannabe comedians, I like the photo but I suspect I'd be sorely disappointed if I saw it in real life.

A dressing up box is a wonderful thing.

Needspace2023 · 20/04/2024 11:44

Have a look on Etsy
https://www.etsy.com/uk/market/kantha_jackets

Also ignore the boring dress the same people! If you like it, wear it. I don't mind if people cba with styles ( kind of cool in itself) but people judging others and copying each other is so boring!

Anjo2011 · 20/04/2024 12:11

I saw this in store yesterday, caught my eye too. There were a couple of people looking at them and few sizes left. If you like it, who cares where it’s from. Try it on and see.

@bluerosacea@TeamPolin@CelesteCunningham@Redpaisely

Your posts depress me. It's such a limiting attitude. "I can't wear this/ only young/ tall/ willowy can wear it".

It's a jacket. In a basic boxy jacket shape. It's not an outré, challenging or out there jacket.

I wouldn't buy it - not because I'm 64 or a 5' 4" size 14/16 or because I'll look like I've raided the dressing up box (I'm sure a lot of what I wear fails that particular test of acceptability) but because I don't find it that interesting . It and all the other padded jackets, look like mass produced, mainstream copies of the stuff I bought from hippy shops decades ago.

Edited

This is a really weird post.

If I wore that jacket it would of course function as a jacket. But it wouldn't be as flattering on me as another jacket, and I also don't particularly like it, so I wouldn't buy it.

This is the style and beauty section, it's not surprising that people are judging the jacket based on how it looks. Part of that is how it looks on our various bodies.

You've said yourself that you don't find it interesting, so you're obviously familiar with the concept of judging clothes based on their appearance.

frilly bed valences, curtain pelmets and toilet roll doll covers.
Sorry to break it to you but these are all coming back with the exception of the toilet roll doll covers (which I like the sound of!).

See Elle Decoration, Home or Instagram if you don’t believe me 🤣

Stop the world I want to get off 😂😂😂

Clarinet1 · 20/04/2024 12:46

I have something quite similar from Monsoon although it’s not padded and the ground colour is black. I’m five foot nothing and I wear it with
jeans and a plain coloured top. I’ve had compliments!

I don't find the jacket interesting. That has nothing to do with the configuration of my body parts or its relation to the configuration of my body parts or anyone else's body parts.

"Flattering" is irrelevant. It's not, for me, going to be made any more interesting by the shape of the person wearing it.

That's your opinion, and that's great.

Mine is that I'm more important than my clothes, and I like clothes that make me look my best.

Neither are unusual viewpoints.

henlake7 · 20/04/2024 14:05

I think its really cute.....def a statement piece!

(whats wrong with per una though? I thought they were just a basic fashion range).
Now if you had said Bon Marche I would of said no without even looking!!LOL😂

I don't know about Bournemouth but I kove my slippers, they're so warm and comfy.

I’m wearing my lovely furry slippers as I read this 😂

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 20/04/2024 15:05

I absolutely love Per Una. I’m not 72. Nor am I an ultra-cool 17 year old.
I’ve only ever had one piece from new due to lack of funds. Mum bought it for me and I wore it to death and loved it!
However, I am a pretty avid charity shop lurker. I can spot Per Una a mile away. I always think it has a slightly off quirkiness that really appeals to me. I always know I’ll be happy with it and it’ll be top-quality.

NasiDagang · 20/04/2024 16:53

maudelovesharold · 20/04/2024 07:31

Good God! You’re joking! 72??!!!! Should she have even been out?

Anyone above the age of 50 shouldn't be out and about! They should be locked up in a cupboard.

StridTheKiller · 20/04/2024 16:55

It's nice. I love 90s Per Una and bollock myself every time I admire a piece in a charity shop!

tkwal · 20/04/2024 19:38

Per Una ? My goodness what ARE you thinking ? I mean surely one only visits Marks for party food and the odd meal deal these days ?

Seriously though. If you like it and it suits you buy and wear it. I hadn't realised Per Una had gone beyond the pale...you could always sew a more desirable label into it I suppose

Needspace2023 · 20/04/2024 19:51

What's the joke about Per Una? I have never shopped there but hiw is it any different to Next and M&S? Or Boden or Fatface or SeaSalt?
Sorry I was born in London and don't really understand ???

malificent7 · 20/04/2024 20:32

I like it.

DisforDarkChocolate · 20/04/2024 20:56

I saw it in store and it looked lovely. I didn't check for comedy buttons or unexpected elasticated bits though.

HGP · 20/04/2024 21:41

I’m 33 and I definitely have had Per Una items for the last 10 years!

I don’t think it’s where fashion goes to die at all. I really like it, I can see it going ‘viral’ x

Garlicked · 20/04/2024 22:08

stuff I bought from hippy shops decades ago - If you fancy revisiting your wild past, @IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle, there's a shedload of Indigo Moon on Ebay at the moment 😊

Not likely! I don’t want to be fodder for comments like this:

I saw a lady trying it on in store yesterday! She was tiny, very very old, and it looked awful on her.

Words fail me.

Tadpole10 · 20/04/2024 22:21

Reminds me of a nutcracker soldier

NigelHarmansNewWife · 20/04/2024 22:58

I think what you're really saying OP is that you like it, but you're worried the fashion police will lock you up for crimes against fashion. That's sad - have the courage of your convictions (pun intended) and if you like it, it fits and suits you and you think you'll wear it then just bloody buy it!

NigelHarmansNewWife · 20/04/2024 23:02

LaWench · 19/04/2024 23:36

It's nope from me, it's giving me Moldovian traditional folk dress vibes.

You do know Moldavia is a made up country from Dynasty or were you being ironic?

KeeeeeepDancing · 20/04/2024 23:03

It looks like a cloth kits jacket. Not necessarily a bad thing, as I suppose 70s style is in at the moment

Needspace2023 · 20/04/2024 23:06

Sorry I forgot to say have just had a city break in Amsterdam and saw a few of these worn. I think they are in fashion, so if anything you will be "on trend".
