Is this nice or is it horrible? I think it’s nice but given it’s from per una (where fashion goes to die) I worry I’ve had a knock to the head

Sorry what's wrong with per una?

M&S is a massive high street label, lots of people of all ages shop there.

If you like it, wear it.

AllTheChaos · 20/04/2024 01:21

I can see that on the right person, this would look lovely. I also know that it would look terrible on me, which is a shame as I love boho styles, but they NEVER suit me.

Having said that, Per Una? Time to invest in carpet slippers and a nice little retirement flat in Bournemouth 😆 (No cess to anyone from Bournemouth, my tongue is v firmly in my cheek for this one!)

I don't know about Bournemouth but I kove my slippers, they're so warm and comfy.

I think you might be mistaken. It reminds me of something my Aunt would have worn. She also had frilly bed valences, curtain pelmets and toilet roll doll covers. She would wear this while hand cutting flowers from her garden and placing them in a trug while her gardeners did the real work.

Sorry but no.

I like the sound of her!

I like the sound of her!

Fabulous woman, dreadful outfits 😂

True. The last time I ordered a top there, I met a 72 year old woman wearing it a few weeks later so I felt really dowdy in it after that. (She was not a chic older lady.)

Well, I like people who are true to their style! It would be very boring if we were all the same.

BitOutOfPractice · 20/04/2024 06:53

I think it’s lovely! <checks pulse>

have you watched The Regime. Kate Winslet’s character, from an unspecified Eastern European country, goes though a phase of wearing folk outfits. Reminds me of that. In a good way.

WeaselOrFerret · 20/04/2024 06:54

Try it. I suspect I’d look terrible in it. But I think styled right it could look incredible.

Quella · 20/04/2024 07:10

I've now got Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band as an earworm.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 20/04/2024 07:12

The colour wouldn't work for me but I like quilted jackets. My incredibly stylish 17yo was rocking a pair of per una flares the other day!

MissBedelia · 20/04/2024 07:17

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 19/04/2024 22:35

Try it on and see what you think. It’s one of those things that could be good and could be awful, but you definitely shouldn’t let the label be the deciding factor.

i agree.

I saw this similar one in Asda and it looked very pretty in real life (despite the model’s expression in the pics)

O god I like something from per Una??!
Mamoun · 20/04/2024 07:18

Love it! Completely my style (and I am pretty stylish ☺️)!

Monkeybutt1 · 20/04/2024 07:22

I think it's one of those trends you have to try on. I saw the Asda jacket above in the shop and thought it was awful, then saw it out in the wild and it looked amazing on the wearer

JoJothegerbil · 20/04/2024 07:30

I like it. I was considering this one from River Island but it's out of stock in my size.

Good God! You’re joking! 72??!!!! Should she have even been out?

MrsSkylerWhite · 20/04/2024 07:32

I don’t like it. What’s wrong with Per Una, though?

KeinLiebeslied54321 · 20/04/2024 07:33

I don't like it at all, however if you like it then go for it. Ignore the label.

ASighMadeOfStone · 20/04/2024 07:33

KateDelRick · 20/04/2024 05:56

The Wyse ine is worse, it's a less attractive pattern and completely shapeless. The M&S one is fine.

Agreed.
But it's a trendy brand dontcha know so the ageists on MN can't diss it while mocking anyone over the age of 35.

It's time MN did something about the fucking constant ageism on here, it's exhausting.

(I don't own anything from Per Una- the jacket is awful )

maudelovesharold · 20/04/2024 07:31

Quite. All 72 year old women should sit by the fire in a bobbly cardi and polyester slacks, weeping into their rice pudding. The very idea of them liking fashion!

How dare a 72 year old try to look nice? Oh the horror.

(Yes, that's sarcasmus).

BlossomBlossomBlossom · 20/04/2024 07:34

I’m surprised they can sell it so cheaply.

When I clicked the link a ‘Best seller!’ note flashed up - so if you buy it, be prepared to see several other people wearing it in every room you step into. (Even in your own house!)

It is actually not the worst thing I’ve seen from Per Una (though I generally try to avert my eyes if I have to pass a display in a physical shop) but I suspect it will look fussy and dowdy, rather than coolly artisan, on most people. Do check the reviews though - they’re somewhat mixed.

KateDelRick · 20/04/2024 07:34

@ASighMadeOfStone - yes, the ageism continues, unabated....

Cool Mumsnetters like to point and laugh. It's an ageist thing.

It’s not. It’s cos most of it is awful

Upinthenightagain · 20/04/2024 07:38

I bought something similar from river island and I’ve worn it once
