Is this nice or is it horrible? I think it’s nice but given it’s from per una (where fashion goes to die) I worry I’ve had a knock to the head

I like it. At least on the model. It's current, it's intricate, I'm not surprised it's been picked up as a buy and is selling out. I'm surprised at the price though and it would make me suspicious about the quality. Check the reviews.

M&S is a massive high street label, lots of people of all ages shop there

True. The last time I ordered a top there, I met a 72 year old woman wearing it a few weeks later so I felt really dowdy in it after that. (She was not a chic older lady.)

Wow, who knew us older women had such power! We can confer instant dowdiness on any garment. 😁

The problem with Per Una IME is that often the idea is fine, but the proportions or sizing just aren't quite right.

Really often I've picked something up at a clothes swap which looks nice, then put it on & it hangs all wrong. (& the same when others try it, so it's not just that they don't make for my shape)

usernother · 20/04/2024 09:07

I love it OP. I saw it on the app but I can't justify buying yet another jacket.

3luckystars · 20/04/2024 09:09

Phew. I don’t like it. I won’t look at anything else on that site in case I do like it.

Not because that makes me ‘unfashionable’ I’m just not buying clothes this year.

NiceDayatlast · 20/04/2024 09:12

I like it on the model. I like the way it is simply styled too.

Previousreligion · 20/04/2024 09:21

I have liked Per Una since my late teens!

Having said that, the jacket reminds me of matadors.

Chattywatty · 20/04/2024 09:26

I like if and have a similar one. It looks great with wide jeans and a plain top and trainers. I actually like per Una over the last couple of years. They’ve actually had some really good blouses and skirts

inamarina · 20/04/2024 09:36

I quite like it!
I like mixing boho pieces with more casual clothing, like this jacket with a pair of jeans.
And I generally love quilted jackets.

VenusClapTrap · 20/04/2024 09:42

I really like it. But I know from years of experience that it’s the sort of thing I’d buy, but then never actually wear, because it would be a tricky thing to style. It isn’t a jacket you could just chuck on with anything.

Redpaisely · 20/04/2024 10:10

I like it but I think it will look good on skinny women. As I am not, it's not for me.

CelesteCunningham · 20/04/2024 10:47

I don't love that jacket and definitely couldn't pull it off, but I think Per Una has really improved in recent years just like Marks as a whole.

TeamPolin · 20/04/2024 10:49

I'd look like I was wearing a duvet if I put that on. You'd need to be willowy to carry it off.....

bluerosacea · 20/04/2024 10:55

I saw a lady trying it on in store yesterday! She was tiny, very very old, and it looked awful on her. As if she had gone in the dressing up box. Maybe if you are very tall and dramatic looking you could wear it.....

Gwenhwyfar · 20/04/2024 11:00

I like it. Looks pretty.
I still wouldn't buy it because it doesn't look warm at all and even for a summer jacket I need some warmth otherwise there is no point and it's a bit too formal for my life.

I agree that it's better than the Wyse one, which seems oversized.

Oh good for her! I hope by the time I'm very very old I just wear whatever the hell I like. And I'm not averse to looking like I've raided the dressing up box, heaven knows most 20 year olds look absolutely like that at least once a week.

I love it. Pair with wide leg jeans, a brightly colored trainer. It would look amazing.

Just the one coloured trainer?

NeverDropYourMooncup · 20/04/2024 11:17

Reminds me of the stuff the local Buddhist Centre would flog to those who wished to be seen as yoginis - normally next to the Tibetan singing bowls, plastic Buddhas, salt lamps, marble eggs and elephant trousers.

chocmatcha · 20/04/2024 11:20

East do similar

Echobelly · 20/04/2024 11:23

I've been known to own Per Una stuff sometimes but I always see it and think of Caitlin Moran once writing in a column that 'everything from Per Una makes you look slightly mad', which is somehow hilariously true but also doesn't put me off. 😅

NewHouseNewMe · 20/04/2024 11:26

motherofkevinnotperry · 20/04/2024 05:37

I think you might be mistaken. It reminds me of something my Aunt would have worn. She also had frilly bed valences, curtain pelmets and toilet roll doll covers. She would wear this while hand cutting flowers from her garden and placing them in a trug while her gardeners did the real work.

Sorry but no.

frilly bed valences, curtain pelmets and toilet roll doll covers.
Sorry to break it to you but these are all coming back with the exception of the toilet roll doll covers (which I like the sound of!).

See Elle Decoration, Home or Instagram if you don’t believe me 🤣

Upallnight2 · 20/04/2024 11:28

I like it!
Would never buy it though, I'm too chubby for that style 🤣

My mum made herself and my sister and me jackets like this in the mid 1970s. They were soft and warm. Amazing what comes around again.

Clothkits?

Needspace2023 · 20/04/2024 11:32

I think you can get much nicer and authentic ones in Portbello Market shops on Portobello Road. Probably Camden too.
I like them but I do think you should go and try them on before buying.
You cannot predict the fit and colours make a massive difference to an individuals colouring.

Your posts depress me. It's such a limiting attitude. "I can't wear this/ only young/ tall/ willowy can wear it".

It's a jacket. In a basic boxy jacket shape. It's not an outré, challenging or out there jacket.

I wouldn't buy it - not because I'm 64 or a 5' 4" size 14/16 or because I'll look like I've raided the dressing up box (I'm sure a lot of what I wear fails that particular test of acceptability) but because I don't find it that interesting . It and all the other padded jackets, look like mass produced, mainstream copies of the stuff I bought from hippy shops decades ago.
