As the title says. Give or take 10% either way. Looking for a really nice new luxury bag and in need of suggestions.

It is, for me. We are all different. The sort of holiday I take are such amazing experiences, and leave a life-time of superb discoveries, in so so many ways. A hand-bag? Nope.

I cannot for the life of me, imagine spending that much on a handbag- ever.

Then why are you here? Sod off to the travel section!

Ruthietuthie · 19/03/2024 17:48

@hairbearbunches, can you share some examples/ the names of the ateliers which you would recommend? I love luxury bags, but also see that the quality of some isn't what it used to be (Chanel, for example).

fleurneige · 19/03/2024 17:48

Even if I could afford both. A really nice piece of art or antique, or a musical instrument.

That doesn't even make sense.

Fashion IS a form of art! Fashion designers are artists and train at Art Schools!

This - beautiful and enduring works of art - and far more practical!

I personally think named bags with logos are very tacky. I would go for class and style over a named brand. I have some beautiful handbags. Usually 100 to 200 pounds. A big black leather tote from Next, 100 quid, a lovely body cross bag in leather, 80 quid. Take the logos off bags, style and class far more important.

whitenoisemachine · 19/03/2024 17:58

Horses for courses @fleurneige but if I bought a musical instrument, it'd sit in my home and I'd have no bloody clue what to do with the damn thing. It also would last 5 minutes with my toddler and older one. A handbag however, I shall truly enjoy. We're all different - fancy that!

This thread isn’t about what you want though.

OP wanted suggestions, not people telling her to go on holiday, buy a bag for life, give to charity ….

It would be classy to not criticise other people choices.

Great! OP, you should walk around with an oboe on your arm instead of a bag

Mrbay · 19/03/2024 18:07

I'd spend £500 on a handmade bag by Kate Negus, she only makes 5 of each colour way of each style.
Had mine a number of years and they are still in perfect condition.
Now I'm older, I do wonder why people spend so much on a mass produced designer bag.

Copperoliverbear · 19/03/2024 18:09

Mulberry

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 19/03/2024 18:13

I’ve got designer bags (mix of presents from boyfriends) inherited and ones I bought myself. I also have knockoffs of Falabella and Puzzle. Both of them the airport duty free women (Gatwick and Heathrow) thought they were the real deal.

I don’t like logos or big metal work but was given a logo Neverfull with matching purse which I do use on occasion. If it was me I wouldn’t have bought it. I cringe at how much bags have gone up in how much they cost new now, but I don’t really buy them anymore. It was a time when I liked them and showing them off though.

FAir enough- £1500 is a huge sum, and it made me react. Leave you to it.

I bought a Lalique vase for 2500 a couple of years back. I admire it every day and it will be passed down and live forever.

I’d buy a £40-£100 bag and give some of the rest of the money to charity,

Bet you wouldn’t 😂

I’m the same re bags. My aunt who owned her own company and travelled to Italy a lot for work used to buy lots of designer bags but she doesn’t do it now, partly because she’s retired but partly because her money and time goes on other things.

I'd get one of those massive blue bags from IKEA for 75p and spend the rest filling it with wine.

🥂

By react do you mean insult people?

or have I got you confused? Are the poster that said people spending money on something they would enjoy, rather than something you would enjoy have ‘issues’?

fleurneige · 19/03/2024 18:21

Didn't mean to insult. Just the way I truly feel. That's OK.

TabithaTwitchel · 19/03/2024 18:23

My favourite comment ever on one of these threads was someone suggesting buying a memorial bench instead of the handbag. Anyone else remember that?!

It is SO predictable. I'd understand it if the question was ' should I spend this much on a bag?' as that invites a relevant discussion but when it clearly states that the OP is looking for bag recommendations around a specific price point, why the fuck do some of you think you can come on and start going on about spending £33 and then putting it towards a family holiday?

What is the actual point? Where's the help for the OP?

FWIW OP, I'd get a Loewe puzzle bag

Spending that much on a vase is literally insane to me. That's 2 holidays surely! 😂
