As the title says. Give or take 10% either way. Looking for a really nice new luxury bag and in need of suggestions.

I know! I wouldn't care what my dad thought.

That's a flipping lot of money for a handbag!

I'm sure the OP will really appreciate that contribution.

👏

cheekychubs · 24/03/2024 18:34

It would feed my family for 3 months Shock

RosesAndHellebores · 24/03/2024 20:39

It would feed mine for about six weeks!

It would feed my family for three months too, so what?

cheekychubs · 24/03/2024 20:57

Just saying that's all. It's a lot on just a bag at a time when so manypeople like us are struggling with food bill bills.

Perhaps then this isn’t the thread for you, and you could scroll on by, having read the thread title which made the subject very clear.

cheekychubs · 24/03/2024 21:05

What do you mean sorry?

I think she means don't comment on a designer handbag thread if you're offended by someone spending £1500 on a bag

cheekychubs · 24/03/2024 21:15

It doesn't matter though what thread it's on it doesn't change the fact that £1500 is an obscene amount of money to spend on a bag when so many are struggling.

Obscene? Actually it’s quite reasonable for the luxury market. Don’t worry, no one needs you to like it.

People would still be struggling if OP didn’t buy herself a bag, and it isn’t something she needs to refrain from doing (or refrain from talking about on a diverse forum where plenty can comfortably afford a £1,500 bag) as some weird act of appeasing your sensibilities.

BlueLimeRun · 24/03/2024 21:41

People can be so resentful. I have a relative like this, it’s utterly exhausting. People now don’t tell her about holidays because she makes negative comments (despite being financially helped a lot).

The title is clear, you’d think it would just attract people who like bags rather than the I can feed 3 families on one chicken for 2 months brigade.

The op is making a decision about how to spend her money. It’s not an obscene or unaffordable amount for her to spend on a bag. And people will still struggle whether she spends it on a bag, or as so many have suggested, a holiday, or anything else. Mumsnet does not have to cater only to the lowest/lower paid, it’s a diverse forum with vastly different posters and lifestyles. The thread title could not have been clearer and there is no obligation on you to post if you cannot relate to it.

RosesAndHellebores · 24/03/2024 22:32

This thread sent me googling iconic bags @cheekychubs. Included in a list of 35 top bags was the Hermes Birkin at £34,500.

The thread's in Style & Beauty, not money matters.

Have a look on the cosmetic surgery threads, the property/homes, the holidays. Are you on those threads saying that a tummy tuck or a veranda or a Mexican holiday is an obscene waste of money? If not, why not?.
We're in a capitalist society, there's poverty and inequality. If the OP used a Lidl bag, it wouldn't change that.

There's always going to be some people that struggle and those that earn lots of money. Those that earn and spend money keep the economy healthy- OP buying a bag from primark instead won't help anyone!

So you think the OP should wait and buy a bag when you've got yourself into a better position and aren't struggling anymore? Or do you mean the OP should be helping out people like you with their supermarket shopping instead of spending her money on herself?

Covetthee · 25/03/2024 07:40

OP is out there enjoying her bag and yet people still coming on here with their ( very pointless by now) opinions 🤣🤣

£1500 will feed some families for a few weeks and for some families £1500 is spare cash for things they want and enjoy.

If OP had posted this on on the COL forum i would understand the Sarky replies but this is style and beauty and there is always posts like this so maybe avoid the board if it triggers something in you.

The Package has arrived!

My initial thoughts are that I absolutely love it. The size is bigger than expected and will easily fit my dc's epi pen case (no more bulky bag on the school run etc). It looks and smells gorgeous. I don't think the pictures on the Gucci website actually do it justice. I am so pleased with it and can't wait to wear it out later. I've popped it on a shelf out of the kids' reach for now so my picture isn't too clear either (currently feeding ds to sleep in my dark bedroom!).

Thanks again everyone who sent recommendations and have enjoyed the thread as much as I have 😂.

Ooh, that's a gorgeous bag OP. I hope you get many years of enjoyment from it 😍😍😍

No offence to the original poster but in handbag terms, it’s really not a lot of money at all. 💁🏻‍♀️

This. I wish people like the original quoted poster would explain their thought process. Then they’d actually realise what they mean is “People shouldn’t ask about spending £1500 on a bag because I DON’T LIKE IT AND IT MAKES ME FEEL BAD.”

this makes no sense.

Theres always been people struggling. What makes this bad timing? What’s the parameters to make it ok? In you opinion?

I find this whole thing of using CoL to try and tell people what they can and can’t talk about, really weird. Can’t talk about it now, but can talk about it when there’s not a CoL, even though there would still be people struggling?

If you believe this sort of thing shouldn’t be discussed, because there’s people struggling ‘at a time’ wouldn’t be part of the equation as there’s always people struggling.

Smacks of ‘I couldn’t afford to do this, so I don’t want anyone to discuss it’. It’s not about other people at at all.

Whats struck me about the ‘that’s a waste of money’ posters on here is that all of them are self serving. It’s not what they would buy or what they could buy so they believe no one else should do it.

whitenoisemachine · 26/03/2024 13:20

I think what's really struck me is the wedding dress comparison. I'll bet that on most dress or wedding threads, people won't sit and comment that someone should not spend X on a dress. Instead, they should visit asos.com and donate the rest to charity/ buy a bench / something else deemed more suitable. In reality, and I'm sure the same will be said for many, my wedding dress has been boxed up since I got married more than half a decade ago. I don't take it out of the box either because it's a nightmare to fit it back in. It also cost more than the bag, yet my bag has officially been on more outings than my dress!
