As the title says. Give or take 10% either way. Looking for a really nice new luxury bag and in need of suggestions.

@EmpressOfTheThread the naysayers have convinced me it is time to buy a new handbag. I can't decide between a Ferragamo/Gucci crossbody or a cracking tote.

Buy one for me and ejoy, I just spent $500 to hire a skip for the weekend 😑

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 22/03/2024 08:03

I can’t afford a £1.5k bag, but then I drop £400 a month on a combo of dog insurance and doggy day care for 3 days a week I work.

perhaps the puritanical pack will be along to tell me to put her down and get stick insects which as just as good and more practical.

Notthrowingawaymyshot42 · 22/03/2024 08:07

I think handbags in particular are seen as statements of wealth. (Like cars) The more you spend the better off you are among certain circles.

I personally would think I was being flash spending that much. My friends and family would be disgusted also.

Ah but no one who knows would need to see an embellished name.

What horrid friends and family you have and how would they know?

So you'll go up to some random in the street and tell them face to face.
The internet is real to you know, not some land of the make believe. Do better.

Isitbedtimeyet3 · 22/03/2024 08:19

A carrier bag the way the prices are increasing

NeedWineNow · 22/03/2024 08:23

Oh this thread has been comedy gold! I particularly love the poster who suggested going onto the holiday threads and telling them to buy a bag instead 🤣. Seriously though it is astonishing that a handbag thread can bring out such virtue signalling, purse lipped prissiness.

OP I love your Gucci - enjoy using it!

@Floofydawg - my dog set me back £2.5k as a puppy, I know prices have come down a bit recently, but let’s see if @decionsdecisions62 will pop up on the next thread on the “in the doghouse” section when someone’s asking for breed specific advice for standard VS toy poodles to say they would just buy a stuffed toy and bank the rest…

Tbh @FancyBiscuitsLevel they will usually tell you to buy a retired greyhound instead.

@Notthrowingawaymyshot42 strange that they would be disgusted in you choosing what to do with your own money.

Fwiw, I'm not wealthy, I'm comfortable, mortgaged and I teamed my bag with a pair of trousers from Poundland yesterday. ✌️

I'm amazed that the thread is still going 🤣.

Well that just sounds miserable, like your social circle is Mean Girls meets Savonarola: “On Wednesdays, we have a bonfire of the vanities!”. Will take a hard pass on those ‘friendships’.

If my friends and family spend their own money on something that makes them happy, I’m genuinely happy for them.

TheMurderousGoose · 22/03/2024 11:52

Lol

Regina George meets Savonarola. What a mash up!

Regina would have terrorised the good people of Florence.

Sweetheart7 · 22/03/2024 14:42

@Notthrowingawaymyshot42 ahhh you see I completely disagree. I think this is where the thread has taken a turn for the worse... it's a handbag personally I wouldn't even give it the time of day! It could be fake for all you know. You can't assume anything! Even if it was a genuine bag... the same applies.

How unpleasant and judgemental of them. They probably spend money on stuff others would think is a waste of money.

Same. Definitely getting a new one. Can’t decide on tote, which I would use for work so plenty of use out of it. Or something for occasional use.

But after reading this thread I definitely feel I’m the mood for a hand bag that costs the same a trumpet.

Notthrowingawaymyshot42 · 22/03/2024 18:00

@RosesAndHellebores

My friends and family are really lovely people. My Dad in particular is a child of the Second World War and grew up with an ethos of not expecting much and making do. He would be appalled and disappointed if I spent this much on a handbag.

I have inherited some (not all) of his common sense in terms of living sensibly in terms of material goods. I am proud of him and myself in this regard.

If you post a thread like this (controversially flash) on a site like Mumsnet you should expect a challenge or two.

Love the bingo card btw made me laugh out loud!

RosesAndHellebores · 22/03/2024 18:18

@Notthrowingawaymyshot42 oh just like my mother then. A very sensible lady who loves beautiful things and refrains from disgust.

I didn't post the thread btw.
