As the title says. Give or take 10% either way. Looking for a really nice new luxury bag and in need of suggestions.

I’d buy a €20 bag in prImark and save the rest

Who cares...off you go 😂

I always click on the handbag threads to see how many pursed lipped prigs have commented disapprovingly.

This one’s been a corker though.

Handbag threads definitely need to come with various caveats from the OP:

  • Feck off if you’re going to suggest I spend it on a holiday
  • Feck off if you’re going to suggest I go to Primark
  • Feck off if you’re going to suggest I buy a bench
  • Feck off if you’re going to suggest I buy a trumpet/euphonium/flugelhorn

It's been a good one...so glad the OP has bought her bag and will have many years enjoying it.

Mulberry Alexa. Love mine. It feels a bit more edgy than my Bayswaters ,( all of which have seen better days ) .

I think we should start a drinking game.....

People still can't read the room so the speak 🤦‍♀️🤣😭 the difference between this and the rucksack thread...

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 21/03/2024 13:39

The snobbery and sneering about Primark isn't very classy.

"Read the room" so to speak. I'm no rich bitch, infact a solo parent studying/working yet can appreciate what to post and what not to post, I don't see anyone going into the rucksack thread and bragging about donating to charity and only buying a bag for a fiver etc. It's called time and place. This was a fun thread about a 1500pound bag instead people have turned it into a bragging about charity and buying the cheapest they can afford etc almost turning into a pissing contest on who can do it cheaper. As I said, I live pay to pay yet still don't begrudge those who can afford something like this.

Floofydawg · 22/03/2024 06:55

I want a new bag now but my bonus is shit this year 😭

EmpressOfTheThread · 22/03/2024 07:02

Good points, @Mouse82 . That's often the joy of style and beauty, sharing ideas about clothes and accessories, and I'm sure that the price point is high for many people, but what's the harm in looking? Because a handbag is a woman's accessory and is judged as less than a worthy item to spend money on.
Some posters seem to need to demonstrate a kind of superiority by spending less on the item discussed or signalling their charitable intent.
Always the handbag threads.

It's starts off as a little bit of a giggle and then you get 8 or so pages in and it gets boring and old almost like they haven't read the thread. I do try to skip over them, but as friends say sometimes I have no filter until I have said something.

Tesco carrier bag and bank the rest!

Another one.....

@EmpressOfTheThread the naysayers have convinced me it is time to buy a new handbag. I can't decide between a Ferragamo/Gucci crossbody or a cracking tote.

Tricky. Have you thought about a Mountain Warehouse backpack or a Sainsburys carrier? Perhaps a Gucci disco cross body would look be better for interviews, weddings, work etc.
It depends how much you want to spend on a holiday.

RockaLock · 22/03/2024 07:41

It is indeed remarkable that it is only handbag threads that attract so many similar comments.

For example, there is a thread where the OP is asking for surgeon recommendations, cost almost 10x the OP's budget.

And yet there are no "buy a wonderbra and donate the rest to charity/go on holiday/buy a bench/trumpet/vase" comments, only helpful suggestions.

(Please don't pile onto that thread and suggest a wonderbra and a trumpet, I don't want to spoil that thread for that OP!)

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 22/03/2024 07:45

a holiday is possibly more of a waste, a week later you have nothing to show for it, yet I’ve never seen a holiday recommendation thread where the OP has a £5k budget be told to rent a caravan in Tenby for a long weekend and give the rest to charity.

RosesAndHellebores · 22/03/2024 07:45

@EmpressOfTheThread I've already got in the order of 150 carriers. I use the Waitrose ones for special occasions.

EmpressOfTheThread · 22/03/2024 07:46

It's handbags, @RockaLock .
Some sort of weird, puritanical attitude emerges.
Loads of cosmetic surgery threads, wedding outfits, interview outfit threads without the carrier bag vibe.

Good call. In the spirit of being judgemental, I hope you've donated to charity, or at least spent some time wearing sackcloth and ashes.

Floofydawg · 22/03/2024 07:48

I'm going to start hijacking other spendy threads. Let's share the love.

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 22/03/2024 07:59

@Floofydawg - my dog set me back £2.5k as a puppy, I know prices have come down a bit recently, but let’s see if @decionsdecisions62 will pop up on the next thread on the “in the doghouse” section when someone’s asking for breed specific advice for standard VS toy poodles to say they would just buy a stuffed toy and bank the rest…

Floofydawg · 22/03/2024 08:00

@FancyBiscuitsLevel haha yes - mine was £1800 as a pup! Had to forego a new LV that year.
