As the title says. Give or take 10% either way. Looking for a really nice new luxury bag and in need of suggestions.

@IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle what's not classy is coming onto a designer handbag thread specially to virtue signal and sneer at what people choose to spend their hard earned cash on.

MarmaladeOrangey · 21/03/2024 13:49

@whitenoisemachine You are also now responsible for me wanting a Gucci Marmont bag.

I did pop into Iceland earlier to take a look at a sample carrier but I'm not sure I can rock the red/white combo and the logo was a bit too flashy for me. I did also consider some bagpipes but, alas, tartan doesn't go with my style. So Gucci it is.

If you've read the thread, you'll see I didn't- far from it.

Sneering at someone buying an expensive bag isn't classy; but neither is sneering at someone who has no option other than to shop at Primark.

Pictures didn't load, sorry.

OP: your bag is beautiful! 😍

Yay for a gorgeous bag op. Glad it's even better than expected.

Shouldgetupearlier · 21/03/2024 13:42

Why on earth would a luxury brand call itself Acne?

Because it’s Swedish and in Swedish the word means “maker of nice handbags”….. probably

lovely handbag OP - and good to know it’s bigger than expected. You’ve now got me looking at a this 😂

Ruthietuthie · 21/03/2024 16:19

@Shouldgetupearlier, because ACNE is a Swedish brand and English is not the world's only language?

Verv · 21/03/2024 16:49

Glad to see you got your bag OP!
I was going to suggest a LV crossbody or mulberry backpack (as im a bag person but not a handbag person) but I see youve sorted yourself out very well indeed :)

CrestFalcon · 21/03/2024 16:50

I thought the earlier posts saying “get a cheaper bag and go on holiday” were in good and humerous spirits! I didn’t see anything narky about them really. You could argue a holiday is just one week. A handbag is a lifetime 😂

If I was ver ver wealthy I’d spend ££ on a bag I loved;, I can see the value in a beautifully crafted item and design, but there’s a point beyond which it’s diminishing returns, like beauty practices leeching into Botox fillers and surgical. Why bother with real diamonds when cubic zirconia just fine without the insurance drama. Solid gold rules over gold plated though, as tbf fair it does last forever and doesn’t scrape off in 10 minutes.

ps haven’t read the whole thread.

Acne Studios is a Swedish fashion company founded in 1996 by Jonny Johansson. The name 'Acne' is an abbreviation for 'Ambition to Create Novel Expressions'

CrestFalcon · 21/03/2024 16:51

That looks nice !

CrestFalcon · 21/03/2024 16:54

beatrix1234 · 21/03/2024 09:57

I would go on vinted and find the bag for a 10th of the price then go the beach with the rest of the money and find myself some hot Spanish young man to appreciate my bag 💼

😂 dya need a partner in crime?

DJSteves · 21/03/2024 17:22

I'd buy a Rimowa suitcase.

EmpressOfTheThread · 21/03/2024 17:24

Looks great, OP! Good choice.
Plus it's more robust than a Lalique vase.

Shouldgetupearlier · 21/03/2024 17:31

Ruthietuthie · 21/03/2024 16:19

@Shouldgetupearlier, because ACNE is a Swedish brand and English is not the world's only language?

Maybe so, but I’m sure their market would include a high proportion of Brits and Americans

EmpressOfTheThread · 21/03/2024 17:50

larkstar · 21/03/2024 12:04

You're not alone!

Maybe the OP also donates to charity?
The sum is just what she wanted to spend on a handbag, not all her disposable income.

veggie50 · 21/03/2024 17:57

Nice, OP! This sort quilt and gold chain look doesn't seem to date, you'll get plenty of use out of it, enjoy!

astarsheis · 21/03/2024 18:41

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 21/03/2024 13:37

You (general you) can choose to spend ££15 or £1500. However it's not very classy to sneer at people who, as you put it , "have to shop at Primark"

I was being facetious...only because it seems to be ok to have a go at people who can afford to buy nice expensive stuff. Why even comment on these threads...we all know that we can buy cheaper at Primark or M&S

Ireolu · 21/03/2024 18:47

We bought this bag for my sister for her 40th a good few years ago. She still rocks it now. Enjoy you new purchase!

This thread has also just been jokes. Thanks everyone for the laughs!

Notthrowingawaymyshot42 · 21/03/2024 18:53

Haven't seen any thing recommended that looks like £1500. I think there's a point where value for money stops.

iloveshetlandponies · 21/03/2024 19:01

@whitenoisemachine

It is absolutely BEAUTIFUL congrats 😍😍 and enjoy it. You're right when you say the pics don't do it justice ..they're definitely even more gorgeous irl.

Thanks to this thread though I'm now ogling Marmonts and I only bought a Chanel last week 😳😳

wednesdayrobyn · 21/03/2024 19:15

Enjoy your bag, it's lovely.

I clicked on this thread to ogle at handbags but it's provided much more entertainment than anticipated.

I know you already have a bag now but like others mentioned up thread I find this a tricky price point as a lot of the high end brands have really shot up in price over the last few years. There are also so many lovely smaller luxury brands in the under £600 price range.
If you're looking in this bracket again I'd definitely consider a trip to Bicester. I love handbags and some of my favourites have come from outlet shops all have been under £1500. (Prada, YSL, Alexander McQueen, Loewe etc). Another brand I love is Anya Hindmarch, lovely quality and a bit quirky.

larkstar · 21/03/2024 13:43

@Mouse82 I do and have done for a long time.

You've forgotten to post the bag that you purchased at the time of making said donation since this post. 1500 remember.
