As the title says. Give or take 10% either way. Looking for a really nice new luxury bag and in need of suggestions.

That dog posts in the Litter Tray explanation of how I've interacted incorrectly on this thread is the one I understood. Thanks.

I'm autistic so interacting "the right way" with people is congenitally not one of my life skills and I don't always understand people's explanation's of why I'm wrong either.

Edited

genuinely there are parents who are lost about brass instrument purchases in the threads in extra curricular. Your advice about trumpets may well be of benefit there.

The Op's husband wishes to buy her something ( as a result of his recent bonus ) he may have suggested a bag ( if he knows she likes them / already has nice bags ) or she may have said a bag would be the gift of her choice.

It could have been a piece of jewellery that was being chosen, it wasn't.

The Op asked for suggestions.

She does not want fake ! why on earth would anyone suggest she spends this ' bonus ' money on a fake !!!

No one would have suggested a fake trumpet would they !!!

Really lolling at the thought of someone buying a fake trumpet 😆

@MavisTheMonkey Outside of the high end brands there is currently a big market for affordable luxury with brands making good quality bags in the £400-£600 range- such as Polene, Strathberry, De Millier, and personally I would look at these.

totally this drop down to the 'affordable luxury' brands, buy a small black, and a large tan brown bag with maybe a matching wallet / purse - £1500 is still gone very quickly but virtually all outfits and occassions covered.

For the smaller smart black bag something like the Strathberry Mosaic, Tusting Holly (or Kimbolton maybe) or the Demellier Paris.

Then for the large tan leather one something like the Tusting George with snap in laptop sleeve £960

There's a lovely Radley one in John Lewis for £249 that I've been coveting for about 12 months but can't justify buying. I'd get that, and go abroad for a fortnight.

Who needs a bag worth that much money? Surely you could get a £30 bag that would do just a good a job of holding stuff.

I'm guessing that the retailer of such an expensive bag is laughing all the way to the bank!

😴😴😴

What's the obsession with holidays on this thread???

there is a certain amount of money you're going to have to pay for a well made bag in high quality leather, pay less than this and you'll not get the same quality. But there are indeed diminishing returns as the price increases.

Yes but the OP is asking for suggestions in the £1500 range. She's bought one anyway now if you read the thread.
Enjoy your lovely bag OP!

stillplentyofjunkinthetrunk · 20/03/2024 15:55

I've gone for the Gucci camera bag as I think I'll be able to use it day to day and it'll hold my essentials nicely.

great choice thanks for the update.

Dogball · 20/03/2024 16:39

I just came on to see if anyone had suggested a bench. Glad to see I’m not the only one who remembers that.

I know! It's been said over and over again.

woahhhh · 20/03/2024 11:29

@Mouse82 no. But it would explain why the poster sees everything from their perspective and is somewhat persistent with discussing horned instruments. That's not being a dick.

🤦‍♀️

OP enjoy your new bag and your upcoming trip. Wear your new bag on your trip. You deserve it. Take a picture when it arrives.

No, just a Lalique vase and a trumpet.....
I'm going to remember those for the next handbag thread!

Can't forget the carrier bag specifically from Iceland 🤣

Justfivemoreminutesplease · 20/03/2024 18:42

Good choice OP! What colour have you gone for? I’ve got a disco tan coloured bag and it is my go to popping to the shops bag - it’s very functional. The only thing that annoys me is the tassle flapping as I walk so I normally end up holding it 😳
I hope you enjoy your new bag

Queenofheart · 20/03/2024 19:00

SmallIslander · 19/03/2024 00:11

I'd get one of those massive blue bags from IKEA for 75p and spend the rest filling it with wine.

😂😂

ZippyGoose · 20/03/2024 19:00

I'm with this. Saint Laurent. Classic, won't go out of fashion.

Or get a Chanel on Vestaire.

They are the two makes that hold their value most.

I think I'm going to go onto every holiday thread and tell people not to bother, just buy a handbag.

RockaLock · 20/03/2024 19:23

My heart sank when I saw the title of this thread, because I knew the sort of comments that it would attract.

But despite a number of PPs doing their best to spoil it, I have enjoyed reading all the different suggestions.

Enjoy your bag, OP! (and your holiday Grin)

At the risk of derailing further, does anyone have a givenchy Antigona? They look gorgeous but I'm wondering how good the quality is?

I hated mine, it was too clunky and not enough space on the inside as the size would suggest also i found the zip really bad, very sharp and would always cut my hand trying to get my hand it. I know everyone says its a classic style but to me it’s a bit dated.. but Will probably come back into fashion at some point

I sold it (at a higher price- pro of a designer bag) and saved a bit more and got the Saint Laurent sac de jour tote instead, Which i LOVE and would highly recommend

But not just any Lalique vase… one that’s apparently immune from breakage! It will ‘live forever’, apparently!

Unlike a sturdy, well made leather handbag 🙄
