As the title says. Give or take 10% either way. Looking for a really nice new luxury bag and in need of suggestions.

A bag of chocolate and wine!

And yet I clearly wasn't alone in asking why on earth anyone would spend nearly a month's take-home on a bag that some mugger could swipe the first time you take it out with you, because other people were suggesting Ikea bag filled with wine, £50 bag and a holiday...

The trumpet was merely an illustration of what you could get for twice the cash.

Actually on-topic: OP could get 40-50 bags by Banned Apparel for that money as well.

Doesn’t matter if you are alone or not. It’s all irreverent and an example of how self entered some people’s thinking is. Firstly, it’s not a mantra take home for plenty of people. Whether it is or not is irrelevant. Op has the money to spend. What that money equates to in other peoples lives, doesn’t matter. At all.

Op didn’t ask for opinions on whether she should spend it on a handbag. Didn’t ask what people would spend the money on.

But so many people feel the need to insert themselves into a conversation they (apparently) have no interest to tell people how the money could be better spent and why they wouldn’t buy a handbag. It’s peak self centred thought and actions. It’s just a good illustration of how self obsessed some people are.

The Op doesn’t want a trumpet. A trumpet would be a waste of money for the Op and many others. A handbag, however, will be something she uses and enjoys. But she didn’t ask for suggestions on what to buy. So a comparison of a trumpet is weird. It’s not relevant to the Op AND in this context would be a complete waste money.

The Op doesn’t want 40 or 50 bags. So again, not a comparison.

@woahhhh neither have I!

This thread has taken an unexpected turn overnight but it has given me some laughs!

I've gone for the Gucci camera bag as I think I'll be able to use it day to day and it'll hold my essentials nicely. If I don't like it, it's easily returnable. I was really tempted by a YSL but I think I'll find the Gucci more functional. YSL is next on the list!

Great choice! Mine is my everyday bag and I've never regretted it.

Those banned apparel bags are absolutely revolting

whitenoisemachine · 20/03/2024 09:39

@ClonedSquare we even have change out of the £1,500, so perhaps I'll put it towards my trumpet fund 🎺.

Givenchy Antigona. Get a bag with good resale

Toottooot · 20/03/2024 09:55

Bluegray2 · 19/03/2024 19:51

If your husband is insisting then why not spend the money, but I wouldn’t spend 1500 on a bag because there are so many really good fakes around now you can never tell who has the real or the fake ones.

If you know bags then yes you clearly can tell the difference ffs.

Covetthee · 20/03/2024 09:55

These threads never fail to make me laugh with the holier than thou attitudes.

ffs if you dont have the money to buy a designer bag or have no interest in paying that much for a bag stay off these types of threads.

your condescending attitudes will NEVER change the mindset of those who can and want to buy such bags.

OP- enjoy your lovely new bag- I have the gucci disco camera bag and got it 7 years ago and its generally the only bag I use, its great to dress up and use it and to use it casually. Goes with everything And it’s still in great condition

Buying a fake bag is the immortal act, not buying the real one. Black economy, proceeds of crime, tax evasion etc etc

Netaporter · 20/03/2024 08:24

@whitenoisemachine ooh how fabulous! Enjoy the great choice.

@Mememe9898 use the bag. If you speak to a lot of elderly people they fervently wish they’d never left stuff for ‘best’ which was hardly ever used. I have nothing for ‘best’ I’ve worked hard for everything I have and I enjoy using the things that I worked ridiculous hours for in my younger years and that add joy to my life.

@VitoCorleoneOfMNMafia i do know about musical instruments but this is not the ‘extra curricular’ thread. Yes £1500 buys a lot of other things and yes it is a lot of money but it isn’t yours or mine to spend. The OP was quite clear about what she was asking. The thread didn’t read ‘how should I spend £1500?’ Nor did it read ‘AIBU to spend £1500 on an handbag?’ Maybe she was left the sum of money or earned a bonus at work? There are a lot of posts in ‘the litter tray’ about cats but I don’t own a cat nor have I ever owned a cat but I wouldn’t join in those discussions extolling the virtues of dog ownership either….

That dog posts in the Litter Tray explanation of how I've interacted incorrectly on this thread is the one I understood. Thanks.

I'm autistic so interacting "the right way" with people is congenitally not one of my life skills and I don't always understand people's explanation's of why I'm wrong either.

TabithaTwitchel · 20/03/2024 10:17

@VitoCorleoneOfMNMafia has just about finished me off with their utter tripe 😀

OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · 20/03/2024 10:21

The Op's husband wishes to buy her something ( as a result of his recent bonus ) he may have suggested a bag ( if he knows she likes them / already has nice bags ) or she may have said a bag would be the gift of her choice.

It could have been a piece of jewellery that was being chosen, it wasn't.

The Op asked for suggestions.

She does not want fake ! why on earth would anyone suggest she spends this ' bonus ' money on a fake !!!

No one would have suggested a fake trumpet would they !!!

Toottooot · 20/03/2024 10:22

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 20/03/2024 10:05

Buying a fake bag is the immortal act, not buying the real one. Black economy, proceeds of crime, tax evasion etc etc

Which is something I’d never do. If someone who hasn’t the first clue about bags wants to assume I’m carrying a fake more fool them.

StarsByThePocketful · 20/03/2024 10:34

@VitoCorleoneOfMNMafia are you always so ridiculously self centred?
do you realise that literally nobody gives a shiny shit about what coats you can and cannot wear or what instruments you play? 🤣

l don’t know why people struggle to understand that.

I don't know why people struggle to understand why some people struggle to understand that [spending £1500 on a bag]. The clue as why I might struggle to understand is "nearly a month's take-home". Someone who can afford a £1500 bag has more money than I can imagine having and I cannot imagine spending the money I cannot imagine having.

People have different priorities sometimes. When I had money to spend (usually birthday and Christmas money) I often saved it up so I could buy a designer bag. It was what I preferred to spend money on back then, in my 30s. Considering that a few have gone up in value since then and I've sold some (were presents) I consider I've made an investment.

I also had money from inheritances, some was invested and with returns on that I chose to spend it on bags.

I'm now in a different place where expensive, designer bags don't mean a thing to me. My dream would have been a Hermes Kelly which I could've afforded but I was always put off by the long waiting lists.

Perhaps, before interacting with others and saying unwise comments you should learn to engage your brain before your mouth a bit more. Then you won't have people coming back to you who are 'offended'.

I'm not being rude here, just trying to make a point.

Have you actually just told someone with Autism who has explained that this affects their communication and understanding to “engage their brain” before speaking - fucking hell!!!!

Oh how cute, lets throw being autistic into the mix. So's my son, so is myself and every man and their dog these days.

And now blaming being autistic for it. My son is autistic and so is myself.

She does this all the time. Says nasty comments to people, I am aware she has autism. It's like an excuse of hers.

I mean if you want to insult people, fine but don't use your autism as an excuse.

TabithaTwitchel · 20/03/2024 11:13

I know plenty of folk with autism. I didn't realise it meant you had a free pass to be unpleasant and rude and then, when having been unpleasant and rude, say ' but I've got autism so I don't understand.'

You clearly have no interest in designer bags. But you clearly have an interest in being rude and posting irrelevant shit on a post that just doesn't chime with you

Being autistic isn't a get out of jail card for being a dick. Would you go up to some random in the street be a knobhead them blame it on autism.

woahhhh · 20/03/2024 11:29

@Mouse82 no. But it would explain why the poster sees everything from their perspective and is somewhat persistent with discussing horned instruments. That's not being a dick.
