As the title says. Give or take 10% either way. Looking for a really nice new luxury bag and in need of suggestions.

I would go YSL too. Mulberry don't keep their price so well.

There's a really good British re-sale page on FB and also check Vestiaire. I've bought a few bags and clothing pieces off there. There's was also recent thread on here if you search for it.

Keep ignoring the spend ₤50 and have a holiday on the rest.

I’ve got a Saint Laurent bag that cost nearly £2k that I got as a present and barely use it. I’m terrified of damaging it so it stays in its cloth bag which defeats the purpose of having it haha

I normally just use my £35 cross body bag 🫣

It won't get damaged - well made bags aren't delicate! However, if it's not for you, sell it because you'd get a reasonable price.

I would have done. Still think the comment was bizarre.

I have never had a water bottle open in a hand bag. Not has to put them on piss soaked floor. Whether they were £40 or £2k. Nor have any got scuffed in 5 mins.

But also, not everyone plays instrument or has any intention of playing one. I mainly okay piano. A trumpet would be pointless and a waste of money. I have no interest in playing one. You want to go by a trumpet with £1500 of your own money, go do it. But it’s irrelevant. Op isn’t asking what musical instrument to buy.

It’s such a self centred comment and thought process. You wouldn’t buy a handbag for £1500. But felt the need to come on to a thread with that title to tell people that you can’t look after a handbag would never spend that money on one, but would buy an instrument. No relevance to the thread or Op. But all about you. It’s weird.

And yet I clearly wasn't alone in asking why on earth anyone would spend nearly a month's take-home on a bag that some mugger could swipe the first time you take it out with you, because other people were suggesting Ikea bag filled with wine, £50 bag and a holiday...

The trumpet was merely an illustration of what you could get for twice the cash.

Actually on-topic: OP could get 40-50 bags by Banned Apparel for that money as well.

@superplumb I got a red Gucci disco bag and have used it loads, such a useful size.

I have red too. Seems to go with everything. Great little bag

Just use the bag. It's just a bag. Are you seriously so tough with things that you'll damage it? I'm struggling to think of any bag I've ruined.
Do you drive an old beat up car also? And wear cheap shoes? Jewellery? Why go through life using cheap stuff if you have the means to have and use nice stuff?

woahhhh · 20/03/2024 07:18

@VitoCorleoneOfMNMafia

Never fails to amaze me how many MNer put their bags down in piss covered floors.

Never in my life have I put a bag down on a public toilet floor.

BaronessBomburst · 20/03/2024 07:22

I fell in love with the Loewe Puzzle in green, but it's way out of my budget.
I found this though: https://www.hush-uk.com/stevie-leather-crossbody-bag-tan/010696-0475.html

Guessing that you don't wear jumpsuits or rucksacks?

I can't wear a rucksack on the loo for the same reason that I can't sit down on the bus or train without taking it off.

Even if wearing a standard shoulder bag, it has to come off if I'm wearing a jumpsuit. And if there's no hook on the door, where do I put it? I'm already using my hands to wrestle with clothing.

whitenoisemachine · 20/03/2024 07:25

@woahhhh neither have I!

This thread has taken an unexpected turn overnight but it has given me some laughs!

I've gone for the Gucci camera bag as I think I'll be able to use it day to day and it'll hold my essentials nicely. If I don't like it, it's easily returnable. I was really tempted by a YSL but I think I'll find the Gucci more functional. YSL is next on the list!

Clearly for the op and many others, £1500 isn’t ’nearly a month’s take home’, and she (and they) spend accordingly. I don’t know why people struggle to understand that.

I don't know why people struggle to understand why some people struggle to understand that [spending £1500 on a bag]. The clue as why I might struggle to understand is "nearly a month's take-home". Someone who can afford a £1500 bag has more money than I can imagine having and I cannot imagine spending the money I cannot imagine having.

@VitoCorleoneOfMNMafia maybe stay off Style & Beauty then eh, and specifically threads which mention handbags in the title?

Start a thread on your own struggles then instead of hijacking the OP's to try and meet your moral compass. Clear as day's in the title what this post is about or are you just trying to make it all about you and sap the fun out of things.

When I see a thread that doesn't relate to me and my lifestyle I either read it out of interest to learn how others might live or scroll by. I don't start commenting random things that are not relevant.

If someone is talking about, I don't know... swapping council houses or the best Aldi dupe, I don't launch in with comments about how Crème de la Mer is nicer or the new £250k kitchen I'm considering installing

Not all threads are for all people.

just to say this..
SmallIslander · Yesterday 00:11

I'd get one of those massive blue bags from IKEA for 75p and spend the rest filling it with wine.

made me lol. Thanks smallislander!
I think if it were me, I’d spend 1k going to Italy or Spain and buy a really nice bag there. They have some super unusual designs in the little stylish boutiques.

@whitenoisemachine ooh how fabulous! Enjoy the great choice.

@Mememe9898 use the bag. If you speak to a lot of elderly people they fervently wish they’d never left stuff for ‘best’ which was hardly ever used. I have nothing for ‘best’ I’ve worked hard for everything I have and I enjoy using the things that I worked ridiculous hours for in my younger years and that add joy to my life.

@VitoCorleoneOfMNMafia i do know about musical instruments but this is not the ‘extra curricular’ thread. Yes £1500 buys a lot of other things and yes it is a lot of money but it isn’t yours or mine to spend. The OP was quite clear about what she was asking. The thread didn’t read ‘how should I spend £1500?’ Nor did it read ‘AIBU to spend £1500 on an handbag?’ Maybe she was left the sum of money or earned a bonus at work? There are a lot of posts in ‘the litter tray’ about cats but I don’t own a cat nor have I ever owned a cat but I wouldn’t join in those discussions extolling the virtues of dog ownership either….

I really do need to use it but the size of it is impractical as it’s too big for everyday use and too small to put a laptop in it.
Plus the places I go to these days doesn’t work as I’ve got two young kids and they love leaving a trail of mess everywhere. I’m sure as they get older and I can go back to the fine dining meals that I used to go to very often pre kids that the bag can make an appearance.
Since I’ve known my husband he’s always said he would buy me a designer handbag and we can now afford to buy them and as a frugal person I didn’t want him to spend that much money on a bag but now that I’m rubbing shoulders with more affluent people I thought having one is a good thing just to “fit in” 😂
