As the title says. Give or take 10% either way. Looking for a really nice new luxury bag and in need of suggestions.

@Bluegray2 your post heavily suggests buying a fake is an option.

And I don’t think netaporter would think a good way to advertise would be by way of a middle aged woman poster 😂

Isn’t literally everyone going round with a bum bag as a bag at the moment ?

Or "fanny pack" as we call it here in the US.

But everyone is wearing them in front across the chest, which in my humble opinion, is not a good look.

Mememe9898 · 19/03/2024 23:10

I’ve got a Saint Laurent bag that cost nearly £2k that I got as a present and barely use it. I’m terrified of damaging it so it stays in its cloth bag which defeats the purpose of having it haha

I normally just use my £35 cross body bag 🫣

Isabelle70 · 19/03/2024 23:13

What did you go for @whitenoisemachine ?

Tattooedcoffeeaddict · 19/03/2024 23:13

I’ve been saving for a Mulberry Alexa and finally got one two weeks ago so I’d say that. It’s in Mulberry green with gold hardware and its beautiful!

I second the Gucci camera bag upthread. I have the original Soho Disco but I think I prefer the newer one linked. It’s such a lovely bag and I’ve found the more worn they get the better they look. They fit a lot more than you’d imagine in as well!

Bluegray2 · 19/03/2024 23:18

@Netaporter

Nope, didn’t suggest anything, just stated a fact

Middle aged women are usually the group that have more disposable income so why not…..

Vito I think you've been unlucky with toilet floors. I hang my bag on the door handle if there's no hook, or keep it on my shoulder.
I'm not wanting to get my lovely Gucci bag stained, although a good handbag tends to clean up easily..
I play the clarinet and tend to find there isn't enough space in the case for much else after the spare reeds etc.

Rucksacks don't stay on the shoulder in a way that's compatible with using a loo and I really don't like single-strap bags.

I use a triple gig bag: horn in one section, mutes and charts in another, and everyday carry with the music stand in the third.

Exactly this. I have so many nice things that I avoid using in case they get damaged that I struggle to understand buying another.

Then she gets Links to fecking trumpets? Beyond random. 😂

Would you have known what I meant by "Strad" or "Rpole" without the links?

I play the cornet and was very taken with that trumpet!

In fact I’m due for a cornet upgrade soon (after Grade 3), does anyone have any recommendations please? 😂

Out of interest (and because it’s either do this or clean the bathroom). I looked at a thread from 12th March where the poster was wondering whether to spend £1500 on a wedding dress. Surprisingly no one suggested she give the money to charity instead. Nearly all the replies were ‘go for it’.

I haven't the slightest problem with anyone spending £1,500 on a good bag. I wouldn't personally because bags aren't a great interest of mine but I have spent that amount of money and more on individual items of clothing.

I saw the wedding dress thread. Whilst it's entirely up to anyone to spend their money as the like I can't even begin to fathom spending £1,500 on a dress to be worn once. A bag you'll have and enjoy for years? No problem - makes perfect sense to me.

The Besson Sovereign 928 variants remain popular amongst brass banders at all levels. New prices are eyewatering so try for a second-hand one, but be sure to inspect and play-test it first.

You could also try to join a brass band that can loan you an instrument. This will also help to develop your playing. At Grade Three, you'd be best looking for a fourth section or non-competing band. As you get better, you can audition for higher-section bands.

Something from Toteme and a night in a very nice hotel.

If your husband is insisting then why not spend the money, but I wouldn’t spend 1500 on a bag because there are so many really good fakes around now you can never tell who has the real or the fake ones.

I'm going to be preachy and virtue signalling but part of my work involves having to take account of money laundering and proceeds of crime.

You (general you) might think fake bags aren't a big deal. I mean it's not as if it's selling drugs or guns or prostitution but it's the same ball park - black economy, no taxes paid, no controls over worker conditions, ripping off genuine businesses.

Lookingoutside · 19/03/2024 23:59

Devonbabs · 19/03/2024 05:05

I’d buy a £40-£100 bag and give some of the rest of the money to charity,

And really? Would you really?

Get a life FFS 🙄

I look at how much a wedding costs and how much brass instrument I can get for that price and think "bollocks to that, I'll die a spinster and spend the money on horns".

There's a pattern emerging here about what I spend my money on...

I have spent that amount of money and more on individual items of clothing.

What were they made of? Unicorn hide?

Do you have to be so po- faced? Well one of them is a Max Mara 10181 icon coat bought last year for £2,555. I love it- it's a beautiful, thick, warm winter coat. It gives an instant lift just putting it on. I have a couple of the "cheaper" Max Mara weekend coats which were in the £7-£800 range and they are great too but the 10181 is in a different league.

Max Mara have made that coat since 1981. I'm 64 , I expect it to see out my lifetime.

Spend your money on horns. I'm sure they're great. They would be absolutely no use to me.

OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · 20/03/2024 00:53

actually that comparison between a wedding dress and a handbag is a very good one, i had never thought of that !

I remember seeing my wedding dress in Harrods and being really pleased I paid £000 on it, in Harrods it was £0000

And I bet that it still wouldn't go around my 34HH tits without me going up two sizes, even at that price. Oh wait, they stop at 18, I can't go up two sizes. Dropping that kind of money on a coat is only viable if your body dimensions approximate sufficiently well to the dress form used when designing the garment.

When you get your bras from Bravissimo, no amount of money spent on ready-to-wear is going to result in a garment that fits unless buying from Alice Fawke. And if you are 18 on the waist and hips, not even Alice Fawke because her stuff stops at 16. Spending big money on clothes is a pointless waste for anyone with a figure like me unless the clothes are made-to-measure.

When I spend thousands on a new horn, it doesn't make me look like I'm wearing a parachute whilst still having straining buttons at the bust. And I feel good when I'm playing it. Since Bravissimo stopped making clothes, there hasn't been a feel-good garment for me on the planet, so why spend a month's salary or more just to look ridiculous and feel like shit when I see myself in the mirror?

Slightly out of the budget @whitenoisemachine but the Loewe Puzzle Edge Mini comes in a dark green and it’s a bit special.

A vase sitting on a desk will ‘live forever’? I admire your optimism that no one will crash into the desk, knock it off and smash it, or that no one will pick it up to admire/dust it and drop it.

I have an orange cat that would have that vase on it's arse in 5 seconds flat LOL.
I'd rather something of use than something that collects dust and clutter.

Would you have known what I meant by "Strad" or "Rpole" without the links?

I would have done. Still think the comment was bizarre.

I have never had a water bottle open in a hand bag. Not has to put them on piss soaked floor. Whether they were £40 or £2k. Nor have any got scuffed in 5 mins.

But also, not everyone plays instrument or has any intention of playing one. I mainly okay piano. A trumpet would be pointless and a waste of money. I have no interest in playing one. You want to go by a trumpet with £1500 of your own money, go do it. But it’s irrelevant. Op isn’t asking what musical instrument to buy.

It’s such a self centred comment and thought process. You wouldn’t buy a handbag for £1500. But felt the need to come on to a thread with that title to tell people that you can’t look after a handbag would never spend that money on one, but would buy an instrument. No relevance to the thread or Op. But all about you. It’s weird.
