15hr flight

Off on a very long flight soon. I'd like to find something comfortable to wear. Any suggestions. I can go into my nearest city tk browse but would rather find something online. I was thinking some sort of tracksuit type thing but can't find anything suitable- I don't want to look like sporty spice!! But equally lounge wear searches produced sets that are basically pjs.

I travel to/from Singapore for work a number of times a year.

My flying go to outfits are long loose dresses and a cardigan which l can easily slip on or off. Nothing tight around the waist. I tend to go for patterns because I’m messy with food blobs mid flight. Oh, and flight socks. Elegant it is not.

Spare dress in cabin bag too.

Digressing from outfits, l always keep my seat belt loosely fastened and visible, then if you are asleep and you have to belt up for turbulence, you don’t get woken up.

ImpishOrAdmirable · 17/03/2024 04:37

Agree, loose dresses are the comfiest thing. I also keep a pair of leggings in my bag to pull on if the plane temperature suddenly becomes sub zero. This usually happens when it’s dark/people are sleeping, so no one can see.

Really- dresses? Do your legs not get cold at all? I love, love, love a what do people wear when flying thread- I think it's actually my favourite!!! What kind of dresses/ body shapes are you all? I've never considered a dress before!

CeeceeBloomingdale · 17/03/2024 04:59

I also love dresses to travel. I go for sack style dresses with soft wooly tights and remove tights before landing for hotter destinations. I'm apple shaped.

My legs don't get cold with flight socks. Plus you get given a blanket on board. Or as PP suggested, you can pop a pair of tights in your bag, but I don’t really like anything round my waist when flying. I tend to opt for a long loose dress without gathered waist. I have 3 dresses which l call my “flying dresses”; sounds almost Mary Poppins.

Once the cabin lights are dimmed, bra and knix often come off too (in the loo l hasten to add), but don’t tell anyone will you 😀?

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 17/03/2024 07:18

If I’m going from in where it’s a bit cold to hot country, I’d go jersey maxi dress with leggings underneath and cardie in uk, can dump the leggings before landing so not super hot (will it take a long time to get to your destination after the flight?)

Jewelanemone · 17/03/2024 07:20

Currently sitting in Manila airport waiting to fly home via Abu Dhabi. I'm wearing loose elasticated waist linen trousers, a loose t shirt and a soft cotton sports bra. Comfort over style every time on long haul.

Peridot1 · 17/03/2024 07:21

I usually wear leggings or yoga pants with a long loose long sleeved top. Have a cardigan in case it’s cold. I also take a pashmina type scarf. And warm socks.

Travellingislife · 17/03/2024 07:49

I’d love to see photos of the dresses you would wear! Shoes too please.
I always end up dressing like a teenager and I’m 40.. I’d love to wear a dress to look semi stylish and be comfy when travelling.

crew2022 · 17/03/2024 07:53

I have some wide legged trousers with elastic waists (several different pairs from Mint Vekvet and M&S) which are wear with trainers a short sleeved top and jumper over the top so I can be warm or cool.

This is an example of similar style

Photos? I’m afraid l’m not explaining my “flight dresses”. Semi stylish? They are almost like a nightie gone wrong. I wear it on flight out, wash it and wear it on flight back.

Shoes go under the seat in front of me before take off. I only slip them on for a loo visit after that and that is because you never know whether a man has missed the pot.

When I travel long haul I wear loose fitting linen trousers they’re so comfy .

Roja7 · 17/03/2024 08:11

Yoga trousers, camisole top, cardigan & Birkenstocks if flying to somewhere warm

TakeMe2Insanity · 17/03/2024 08:12

When going from cold to hot (I hate being cold) I use the coats that go in their bag. So I get a proper coat in the uk, get to the airport put it in it’s bag and now tiny, open up on return.

Agree yoga trousers are good.

Disco222 · 17/03/2024 08:17

Sweaty Betty Garys, thick socks as my feet get cold, cashmere cardigan, slides for walking to loo.

mitogoshi · 17/03/2024 08:29

Dress, cardigan, trainers, leggings or thick tights, extra socks in bag, exact arrangement depends on if I'm flying from cold weather to hot or warm to hot etc. Seasalt, Fat face or similar are my go to's and Thought for leggings, mine are bamboo blend. Generally the planes are warmer these days so this layering is better plus when I'm flying long haul it is generally from the British winter. Ok I'm not glam at the airport but it's better than a tracksuit anyway.

If disembarking into heat I'll just have the dress and trainers on, rest goes into a fold up canvas bag in my handbag, I never take a big hand luggage case.

Carriemac · 17/03/2024 08:36

Im going on an extent def
trip to the US in May and I have bought wide legged navy trousers from reiss with an elasticted waist, white t shirts (carry a spare) and a navy cashmere zipped hoody from M&S .
Cotton pants with spare and trainers ( old comfy ones )

mitogoshi · 17/03/2024 08:38

Something like this works, I have a denim jacket, white trainers. It's always a balance if we are using public transport to and from the airport in winter too so the cardigan, plus denim jacket gives enough warmth for the 2 hour coach home from Heathrow, or rather crucially the wait at the airport for the coach and the walk from the bus stop home (5 minutes)!

QueSyrahSyrah · 17/03/2024 08:39

I have a couple of jersey maxi skirts with (loose) elastic waistbands and I tend to wear the black one for flying, with a plain back T-shirt and a cardigan over. If it's cold at one end of the flight and warm at the other I put tights or leggings under the skirt for the cold part.

I feel more 'together' in a skirt than any kind of tracksuit bottoms or comfy trousers.

Fuschia01 · 17/03/2024 08:43

Primark have the most brill flying dresses right now, long, thin jersey, flared t shirt dress affairs, I’ve bought one in black and one in grey for my long haul flights coming up. £12 each, they’re so comfy.

Iamblossom · 17/03/2024 08:44

I've just bought something extremely similar to this, can't find the exact one, it was £17.

it was a bit of a punt but I am delighted with it and it's for a long flight

soupfiend · 17/03/2024 08:49

One of the things I always curse myself for is wearing soft, loose, wide legged trousers on flights because they get wet in the toilets where the floor is invariably wet. They dont have any purchase around the legs once you've undone them so just fall to the floor and I dont have the capacity to try to hold them up, plus pull knickers down, plus do what I need to do, then manage the toilet paper while holding them.

Probably leggings under something is a better bet

Fuschia01 · 17/03/2024 08:49

This is what I mean.
