Off on a very long flight soon. I'd like to find something comfortable to wear. Any suggestions. I can go into my nearest city tk browse but would rather find something online. I was thinking some sort of tracksuit type thing but can't find anything suitable- I don't want to look like sporty spice!! But equally lounge wear searches produced sets that are basically pjs.

I love this.

Do you have it, I'm wondering about the leg length. I've long legs and these would look silly if they aren't long enough.

I don't have it myself and I'm only 5'3" so it wouldn't look like that on me 😂 I just thought it looked comfortable to travel in, but smart on arrival by throwing a belt on.

I am Team Dress and Team Knickers.

Also fly to Singapore a lot, so used to 13-15 hour flights with cold/hot temperature changes.

This is my Go To look, with tights on the plane for the cold and for modesty. Note that the soft jersey with no waist is as comfy as PJs. Tights can be removed before landing in the hot country. Put on your sun hat and viola, vaguely elegant tourist has landed 😂

captainsudoku · 18/03/2024 00:36

I flew to Australia from the UK last month with just a minimal stopover.

I wore:
M&S lace non-wired bralette
Knickers Grin
Compression socks
Viscose leggings
A black merino t-shirt
A black viscose midi A-line dress with no waistband
Black trainers

I took a black cotton cardigan and silk blend pashmina which came in handy at times. It was all pretty comfortable to wearSmile

KitchenSinkLlama · 18/03/2024 00:39

I've just come back from a long haul flight and as always wear sweaty betty yoga pants and a loose top. Nothing else is comfortable.

Difference is the bed is generally your own, an aeroplane seat is not and they often have a short turn around time to do cleaning so aren't always spotlessly clean.

Would you sit on the tube, train or bus in just a dress and no knickers? Why do people think aeroplanes are any different to other forms of public transport?

Edited

Are you a germaphobe?
or do you think underwear is made from kevlar or something?
i am not the one to go commando usually but there is absolutely nothing bad about sitting ON YOUR DRESS without knickers in public transport

SD1978 · 18/03/2024 05:11

Can I see more suggestions for dresses please? I'll keep my knicker choice to myself......sorry, knickergate has amused me here, but I really want to try to dress thing out on my next long haul- need to suit wee and dumpy please......

speakout · 18/03/2024 06:59

I wouldn't wear a dress, especially a long one.
Toilet floors can often have urine spills, and anything trailing may touch the floor.
Loose or elastic around the waist, nothing tight at all.
Cabins can vary from very cold to too warm, so layers are best, especially warm socks. I also take small blanket in case the airline don't provide.

Not clothes but I also take a small pot of moisturiser and lip balm, cabin air is very dehydrating.

Blueberry06 · 18/03/2024 08:26

Loose linen trousers as I previously mentioned and compression. socks to prevent swollen legs
i usually wear a T shirt and bring a hoody in case it’s chilly . I’ve been on quite a few long hauls and have never been uncomfortable

catwithflowers · 18/03/2024 09:50

@blueshoes that Boden dress is lovely!

bluecomputerscreen · 18/03/2024 09:54

can you run with what you are wearing?
can you slide down a slide without embarassment?
can you keep your passport/phone directly on you?

Puzzled! Have you watched too many disaster dramas?

The odds are needing to run almost zero. Embarrassment on a slide a non-issue.
There is no need to keep phone or passport directly on you. The carrier has your passport details.

Here's a reason to wear knickers on a plane under a dress if you are sleeping

QuestionForHelp · 18/03/2024 11:15

The odds are needing to run almost zero.

This is stuff that is low risk in sense of chance of it happening but high risk in terms of consequences if the risk does happen.

In those circumstances, you need to be able to maximise your chances of surviving.

If the risk eventuates, it is wrong to say the chance of needing to run are zero. A lot of evacuations that do happen happen on the tarmac because of fire.

I think these people would be running

come sit by me. Welcome to QF10. It doesn't need to be hell. You need: a lightweight merino top, as this regulates temperature perfectly for the plane. For pants, some kind of 'harem' pant or jogger in a bamboo/drapey knit fabric, grey or black good for gross plane spills. Leggings if they're not that compressive, and are super stretchy and more cottony than swimsuity. You need a cuddle fleece/sherpa jumper (and this is crucial) with a hood, as this becomes your blanky (rather than plane blankets which may or may not get washed each time) and allows you to sleep, and the hood encloses you and you forget that it's the plane. If this is black it looks like streetwear rather than pjs. You also want noise cancelling headphones with a cord and one of those 2 pound adaptor jacks so you can plug it in for the movies; an eyemask, earplugs, a case for your glasses if you wear glasses. Bring your stuff in a zippered bag (like a nylon longchamp-style bag, something cheap and inoffensive) that you can wash on high at the other end as it is gross on the plane floor and you're going to be using this as your footstool. Put a blow up pillow in this bag blown up and use it as a big footstool for extra smugness if you're in an extra-legroom seat. Accessories: you also need hand sanitiser, tissues, mints, a big water bottle, hand cream, cleaning wipes, a ziplog bag for your garbage, and a really immersive book, ideally on an ereader so you don't have the overhead light on when everyone's asleep. Drink a lot of water, go and be the person that does yoga/stretching at the back (if you're on an A380 you can do step climbing on the stairs as long as you're out of the way), sleep when you can, and you'll be golden! Good luck!

Really- dresses? Do your legs not get cold at all? I love, love, love a what do people wear when flying thread- I think it's actually my favourite!!! What kind of dresses/ body shapes are you all? I've never considered a dress before!

I wear a Seasalt Sailor dress and a cardy, nothing round the waist as it gets uncomfortable as you bloat. Keep leggings and spare dress in cabin bag. Also take sarongs to pop over legs if chilly/use as pillow etc.

amusedbush · 18/03/2024 11:57

I have only travelled short- and mid-haul up until now but I'm going to Tokyo (~18 hour travel day) in a few weeks, so I appreciate the timing of this thread!

I'm planning to wear gym leggings and layered tops (probably a thermal long sleeved t-shirt and a baggy sweatshirt), slip-on shoes, plus neck pillow and camping blanket. I will also pick up flight socks, just to add to the glamour.

To be honest though, I have lost 100lbs since my last flight so I could probably wear a latex catsuit and still be more comfortable than my last trip in economy 😅

@QuestionForHelp The majority of cabin crew uniforms are not designed for, nor practical for running in. Nor do they need to be.

Also a personal thought. Of course, you have every right to disagree. Flying is one of the safest forms of travel in the world. When someone is posting about flight matters, l don’t think it’s appropriate to get hung up on aircraft safety, which could have the potential to make flyers more concerned than they need to be.

I can’t believe the number of replies about what to wear on a flight 🤣🤣✈️

DJSteves · 18/03/2024 12:56

I fly a lot and regularly do the night flights from the Middle East back to the UK. A good pair of yoga pants is what you need. I wear Sweaty Betty Gaia/Gary. Go for a pair with a nice shape.

bluecomputerscreen · 18/03/2024 13:05

The odds are needing to run almost zero.

run for connecting flights due to delays for example.

I possibly flew too much in latin america where clocks run at different speeds.
plus helped off a rickety set of stairs where I certainly wouldn't want to be knickerless.

mydamnfootstuckinthedoor · 18/03/2024 13:31

I always wear a baggy dress when travelling. Usually start off with leggings under it (leaving from Scotland, it's always cold here!), and a cashmere shawl. When I get to the other end, leggings go in my hand luggage with the shawl and I'm good to go!

Epidote · 18/03/2024 13:59

Are you flying first class or similar? If not a pair of trainers without metal on it. Leggings and a fleece, if you like a hood will allow you to take some light off if you want to sleep. I would go in my PJ's and sleepers if I could. But that do the job of comfortability.
15 hours is a lot, not belts, nothing that is not easy folded and definitely no heavy shoes, non breathable clothes or something expensive you may loose.
A shawls is also a must can be your comfy blanket.
