15hr flight

Off on a very long flight soon. I'd like to find something comfortable to wear. Any suggestions. I can go into my nearest city tk browse but would rather find something online. I was thinking some sort of tracksuit type thing but can't find anything suitable- I don't want to look like sporty spice!! But equally lounge wear searches produced sets that are basically pjs.

Either dress and leggings that I can remove at a hot destination or a knitted co ord.

I also take a massive thin stretchy scarf that can be used as a blanket, or rolled up as another pillow.

One of the things I always curse myself for is wearing soft, loose, wide legged trousers on flights because they get wet in the toilets where the floor is invariably wet. They dont have any purchase around the legs once you've undone them so just fall to the floor and I dont have the capacity to try to hold them up, plus pull knickers down, plus do what I need to do, then manage the toilet paper while holding them.

Probably leggings under something is a better bet

Not only is the floor often wet, risking “rising damp” on any trousers, you have to ask yourself what with? And then try and kid yourself it’s from the wash basin. Dresses are so much easier. And you often don’t need knickers at all on a long flight.

One of my flight dresses, this is a more casual one

I have something similar to these, they're not baggy or long so don't drag along the floor, they're comfortable and thin enough that when you get to your destination you're not hot but stick a jumper and jacket on in the UK and you're okay.

what the hell have I just read? Why wouldn't you wear knickers on a plane? Think of how many people may have sat on that chair before you and the people who sit on it after you. * *

I also prefer skirt/dresses when flying longhaul - less material to bunch up round the bum and crotch when sitting for long periods. Leggings for underneath if you really feel the cold.

Also agree about socks (even if only for the flight)

A cashmere hoodie would be ideal - hoods for long /nighttime journeys helps to keep the world out.

InTheRainOnATrain · 17/03/2024 10:05

Athleisure basically! Lululemon/Sweaty Betty’s finest. Leggings, some sort of active top, baggy sweater. Socks and trainers that are easy to slip on/off. And obviously underwear FFS! If you’re going somewhere hot it still works as you can deplane in the leggings and top.

Also, always remember to pack your essential toiletries, a full change and your swimsuit, if applicable to the holiday, in hand luggage in case your checked bag doesn’t make it!

JaneSeymourTheOnlyOneHeTrulyLoved · 17/03/2024 10:10

Sweaty Betty Jumpsuit. I have a few Garys and a couple of the Hibernate ones and they are so comfortable. I think the Garys are called Gaia(?) now.
Really flattering too.

I’ve already said, l always fly in long dresses, l don’t travel naked from the waist down or in gossamer thin dresses. Neither do l do cartwheels in the aisles. Obviously, if l’m on a period it’s another matter. Otherwise the fabric of my dress is sufficient.

l fly through the night on 14-15 hour flights. I don’t wear knickers in bed; same applies.

OneBigShenanigan · 17/03/2024 10:13

I am fascinated by this.

I would just wear my regular clothes, skinnies, tshirt, maybe a hoody for warmth. And there are people who nip to the loo to take their underwear off?!

TakeOnFlea · 17/03/2024 10:17

Just when you think people can't get any worse on public transport you find out they've just stuffed their used knickers into their pocket.

Why?

OneBigShenanigan · 17/03/2024 10:18

Well I don't t wear knickers fairly regularly, what do you think is happening?!

PointerParty · 17/03/2024 10:19

I do London to Perth at least once a year and I just wear comfortable joggers (I’ve got a couple of Lululemon ones I usually wear) and a stretchy top plus a hoodie. I can’t imagine wearing jeans or a dress!

PointerParty · 17/03/2024 10:22

each to their own I guess, I like to be hermetically sealed in fleece on a flight!

Difference is the bed is generally your own, an aeroplane seat is not and they often have a short turn around time to do cleaning so aren't always spotlessly clean.

Would you sit on the tube, train or bus in just a dress and no knickers? Why do people think aeroplanes are any different to other forms of public transport?

SeaToSki · 17/03/2024 10:32

I have straight leg yoga leggings with jeans style pockets (useful for carrying my phone at the airport) that are clingy enough to not touch the floor in the plane bathrooms and stretchy enough to be comfy long haul. I usually pair them with a close fitting sleeveless tshirt and a loose tunic length top over. This means that I can take the tunic off if I get hot and put it back on if I get cold. Then depending on the weather at the start or finish, I might also have a squishy down jacket. I also wear my bulkiest shoes to save on space packing them and then have a pair of rubber bottomed flat folding slippers in my carry on for going to the loo on the plane. I also have black compression socks that I change into on the plane.

Not in my pocket, in my handbag 😀! It has no impact on anyone else and a dimmed aircraft cabin is to sleep in. I don’t sleep with my knickers on!

OneBigShenanigan · 17/03/2024 10:34

But @xSideshowAuntSallyx what do you think happens if you sit on any form of transport with no underwear on? Your vagina soaks up random substances?!

QueSyrahSyrah · 17/03/2024 10:40

@xSideshowAuntSallyx If you imagine plane cooties can soak up through a dress into a vagina, or vice versa, what difference do you think one more thin layer of fabric makes?

It wouldn't be for me for FWIW but I'm absolutely sure that people routinely ride around on all forms of public transport 'commando' under their clothes, particularly Men. It's the presence of the clothes that prevents direct contact between seat and nether regions.

A monster might come out the seat and make us pregnant 😂. Seriously though, the fabric of a dress in mist cases is more than sufficient.

Presumably your bedroom isn’t full of another 350 people, nor is your bed slept in by a different person each night?

CinnamonJellyBeans · 17/03/2024 11:02

Shirt dress that passes the crease test. I can undo buttons at the top and bottom at the destination.

Long fluffy socks, huge cashmere pashmina which will cover my knees and roll up in my bag.

If you don't bring an eye-mask and mouldable ear plugs, you won't care what you're wearing if there's anyone under five on your flight. Or a parent that insists on parading their crying child up and down the entire aisle for most of the flight, so everyone can enjoy it. The pashmina won't save you there.

True! It’s not big enough. But the seat l’m sitting on has dress fabric between me and the seat. Unless you have cast iron knickers on, the difference is going to be negligible.

StarlightLady · 17/03/2024 11:07

Back to the main subject, l think most carriers on long haul provide eye masks these days.

I am in SA and when I picked someone up from a BA flight in December, I will say I have not seen so many floral dresses in one place at one time.

So that would seem to be what most woman seem to be wearing coming to a hot climate. No idea if they changed on the flight, shoes wise, most seemed to be wearing trainers.

I just wear loose trousers and a comfy top tbh. I feel like I'd get all tangled in a longer dress and more so if I use the blanket.

Mallani · 17/03/2024 11:11

I love that Emma Laurent set but it's polyester - would be far too sticky when arriving in a hot country. If anyone sees something similar in cotton, please met me know!
