15hr flight

Off on a very long flight soon. I'd like to find something comfortable to wear. Any suggestions. I can go into my nearest city tk browse but would rather find something online. I was thinking some sort of tracksuit type thing but can't find anything suitable- I don't want to look like sporty spice!! But equally lounge wear searches produced sets that are basically pjs.

I wear black Varley slim tracksuit bottoms which are quite smart, a silk t shirt, cashmere jumper and take a lightweight dress for when I arrive if travelling somewhere hot.

Also have a spare pair of warm socks and eye mask & ear plugs.

I spend a lot of overnights in hospital with one of children and these are things I find are comfy, warm but lightweight for both flights & hospitals. Similar environments.

Mix56 · 17/03/2024 15:55

I fly often.
I'm surprised alot of you are saying T shirt, wide bottom trousers, & OMG, a jumpsuit on long haul.
I am nearly always cold at some point.
I go with elastic waisted trousers( cotton Uniqlo in the summer) or old worn in stretch jeans.
Long sleeved Cotton T shirt. Cashmere hoodie with pockets and a big cashmere scarf (rolls up at the end) or Uniqlo down jacket (& stuff bag),
I get a cold neck, cold legs, cold all over. (I avoid aisle seat as you get more air-con blowing on your head & neck)
Thick socks & easy to slip on trainers.

Wide bottom trousers could be folded back up to your knees I suppose, but Yuck in the loo otherwise,
Jumpsuits just Not in the loo,

Good sound blocking earphones &
Look up "acupressure for jetlag" & download to your phone

I travel to/from Singapore for work a number of times a year.

My flying go to outfits are long loose dresses and a cardigan which l can easily slip on or off. Nothing tight around the waist. I tend to go for patterns because I’m messy with food blobs mid flight. Oh, and flight socks. Elegant it is not.

Spare dress in cabin bag too.

Digressing from outfits, l always keep my seat belt loosely fastened and visible, then if you are asleep and you have to belt up for turbulence, you don’t get woken up.

Don't your legs get cold in a dress? And sleeping is be worried about it riding up

woahhhh · 17/03/2024 15:58

@StarlightLady

Once the cabin lights are dimmed, bra and knix often come off too (in the loo l hasten to add), but don’t tell anyone will you 😀?
YOU TAKE YOUR KNICKERS OFF????

🙀

woahhhh · 17/03/2024 16:01

@StarlightLady

Dresses are so much easier. And you often don’t need knickers at all on a long flight.
What is it with you and knickers? Di you really hate wearing them? I can't imagine wearing a dress with no knickers. Even in private. I can't really feel my knickers.

woahhhh · 17/03/2024 16:02

OneBigShenanigan · 17/03/2024 10:18

Well I don't t wear knickers fairly regularly, what do you think is happening?!

Vaginal fluids

woahhhh · 17/03/2024 16:04

@IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle

To be honest, I'm the same. My regular clothes are always dresses. I'll wear one that's comfortable and add and subtract cardigan/ jumper/ scarf as necessary.
Yes, but do you wear knickers?

OneBigShenanigan · 17/03/2024 16:05

Right @woahhhh and what massive difference do you think the very thin material of pants makes really, if I'm wearing jeans?

woahhhh · 17/03/2024 16:05

thesleepyhoglet · 17/03/2024 14:20

I'm terrified of a lost bag. Is there anything I should put on my bag to try to prevent this?

Tie @StarlightLady 's knickers on your bag 😹

My knickers have a gusset. My fluids stay on the inside of my knickers. Not smeared on the inside of my dress or jeans.

OneBigShenanigan · 17/03/2024 16:16

Ok well great 🤷🏻‍♀️ That's got nothing to do with the wearing of them, or not, on a plane.

Have literally never had enough discharge to smear around on my jeans...

Every healthy vagina has some vaginal discharge. Although I do wonder if the number of posters on MN who apparently don't wear underwear like knickers or slips correlates with the number of posters who think everything has to be washed after one wear.

Vaginal discharge

Every woman has some vaginal discharge. It's usually healthy and serves a purpose. Here's how to know what's normal, and what's a sign of infection.

Seriously? Sniff some knickers worn for a day. You can smell they have been worn.
Do you wash jeans after every wash?

Please tell me you don't rewear them 🤮

I'm not sure which is worse - rewearing them or washing jeans after every wear.

OneBigShenanigan · 17/03/2024 16:46

Umm you know I think that's enough now...let's stop derailing.

stardust777 · 17/03/2024 17:10

My plane outfit is:
lightweight cotton/linen trousers e.g. Lovall
flight socks
cami top with hidden support e.g. Pact
cardigan
lightweight fleece (in case of fierce aircon)
scarf (see above)
flat pumps

I also take my bikini in my hand luggage and a pair of jeans. Love this toiletry bag from Nivea - I also add spf, mini toothbrush, toothpaste and floss.

A flannel is useful too, along with sunglasses, ear plugs (I have these) and an eye mask.

I also take a mini first aid kit with useful meds (was in dire need of anti-diarrhoea tablets on a flight before and was glad I had them to hand).

I roll my trousers up when going to the loo on the plane or tuck them into my socks.

Twilightstarbright · 17/03/2024 17:27

I wear a cotton midi/maxi dress with a sweatshirt of cardigan and a cotton shawl thing I then use as a sarong. Leggings underneath to be removed when hot. I choose dresses that go in under the bust and are looser on my tummy.

luggage wise, I think an unusual colour or strap help as lots of people have black suitcases. A man on our shared transfer accused me of taking his suitcase and I pointed out that it had a hello kitty luggage tag on it but if he also had a hello kitty tag I was happy to admit I was wrong 😂

Barney16 · 17/03/2024 17:27

I always wear a dress and wooly tights if it's UK autumn/winter/spring. Wear sweatshirt with hood over the top. Use sweatshirt as a pillow during flight and take tights off when I get there. Usually flying to Dubai so it's lovely and warm. Shove sweater in bag. I go for longish dress, not waisted if you see what I mean, usually stretchy, Skims are brilliant.

QuestionForHelp · 17/03/2024 17:28

Personally, I wouldn't wear a dress on a flight in case there was safety issue - planes do get evacuated, sometimes on the tarmac and you can move quicker (and less self consciously but quicker more importantly) if you are in trousers than a long dress.

Plus you have at least a single layer of protection around all of your skin on your legs.

For the same reason, I usually wear primarily cotton or linen and nothing that's just going to fly up in flames instantly if something burning drops onto it.

Apolloneuro · 17/03/2024 15:13

I have AirTags in my cases. Obviously wouldn’t stop them going astray but at least you’d be able to track them.

Thank you have bought some cheaper versions of these on Amazon and will make sure things are packed between me and my travel companion.

Can you imagine the poster who goes knickerless getting off onto a windy airfield!

JustWhatWeDontNeed · 17/03/2024 17:38

I wear Jersey jogger type things that I get from a dirt cheap no name shop near me. I won't wear jeans on a plane and have never considered dresses. I look like I'm in pyjamas but I don't care.

I've never gone knickerless anywhere, but my vag hates me, so likes to give me surprise spotting and other pleasant occurrences, so it would never cross my mind to attempt it.

Please don't ever let your clothing touch the plane toilet floor :( they are absolutely filthy with pee/puke and god knows what else. I doubt they're ever cleaned to a satisfactory standard. Also never go roaming in socks alone. I used to when I was younger and I shudder at the thought. Plane carpets have seen a lot.

I've just ordered some pact rips they look great for travel/hols

Done so many of these flights, often with a big temperature difference btw departure and destination.

For me yoga type pants, vest top, cardigan, pashmina.

Ballet pumps for flights as easy to slip into hands free to go to toilet and don’t take up lots of room under your seat. Work well over flight socks. I pack pair of flip flops to change into at the airport if it’s extremely hot at destination.

I find it’s always chilly on flights though.

Love leggings but they don’t work well with flight socks I find.

I don’t wear pale colours as it’s so easy to get a bit of food on you from the tray.

mamaison · 17/03/2024 17:48

Oh a very comfy bra is important too! Something seamless and comfortable enough to sleep in.
