Off on a very long flight soon. I'd like to find something comfortable to wear. Any suggestions. I can go into my nearest city tk browse but would rather find something online. I was thinking some sort of tracksuit type thing but can't find anything suitable- I don't want to look like sporty spice!! But equally lounge wear searches produced sets that are basically pjs.

I love that Emma Laurent set but it's polyester - would be far too sticky when arriving in a hot country. If anyone sees something similar in cotton, please met me know!

How did you find that, Ive scoured that website and couldnt find leg lengths, fabric details or washing instructions. Was really annoying me as the clothes do look nice but like you I wont buy polyester

I am in SA and when I picked someone up from a BA flight in December, I will say I have not seen so many floral dresses in one place at one time.

So that would seem to be what most woman seem to be wearing coming to a hot climate. No idea if they changed on the flight, shoes wise, most seemed to be wearing trainers.

I just wear loose trousers and a comfy top tbh. I feel like I'd get all tangled in a longer dress and more so if I use the blanket.

Forget the floral dresses. For some reason long haul flights bring out so many me’s shirts where you need you sun glasses on 😎.

I do and have done a lot of these flights . I’m not a dress person so trousers with elasticed waist , although I’ve also worn loose boyfriend style jeans and they are also fine . Scarf as my neck always gets cold and a cardigan for when I feel chilly. Spare T-shirt and panty liners as they make me feel refreshed.

KateLizAn · 17/03/2024 12:39

My main three things I always take on a long haul flight: large pashmina style scarf, flight socks and slides to slip on to go to the toilet.

When I see people go to the toilet barefoot on a plane 🤢

Something like this works, I have a denim jacket, white trainers. It's always a balance if we are using public transport to and from the airport in winter too so the cardigan, plus denim jacket gives enough warmth for the 2 hour coach home from Heathrow, or rather crucially the wait at the airport for the coach and the walk from the bus stop home (5 minutes)!

Yes, something like that. There's gazillions of brands who offer dresses like that at all price points from supermarket to top end. I'm a bit puzzled why wearing a dress on a plane is such a surprising concept to some posters.

I am fascinated by this.

I would just wear my regular clothes, skinnies, tshirt, maybe a hoody for warmth. And there are people who nip to the loo to take their underwear off?!

To be honest, I'm the same. My regular clothes are always dresses. I'll wear one that's comfortable and add and subtract cardigan/ jumper/ scarf as necessary.

One of the things I always curse myself for is wearing soft, loose, wide legged trousers on flights because they get wet in the toilets where the floor is invariably wet. They dont have any purchase around the legs once you've undone them so just fall to the floor and I dont have the capacity to try to hold them up, plus pull knickers down, plus do what I need to do, then manage the toilet paper while holding them.

Probably leggings under something is a better bet

Socks and tuck your trousers into them for the toilets!

catwithflowers · 17/03/2024 13:21

I've just ordered these to wear on the plane in a few weeks when I go on holiday. Will wear with a plain white tee shirt and a thin wool sweater.

thesleepyhoglet · 17/03/2024 14:16

Now need to buy some flight socks- where do you get them please?

I'm terrified of a lost bag. Is there anything I should put on my bag to try to prevent this?

I got my flight socks in Sainsburys

MorrisZapp · 17/03/2024 14:28

I once flew from Miami to the UK and a young woman in the seat behind me was wearing tight jeans, a tight jumper and a six inch wide metal corset belt type thing. She didn't take it off or adjust it throughout the entire flight.

I still think about it to this day.

Dussa · 17/03/2024 14:49

I just wear basics like t shirt, zip hoodie and yoga pants/ joggers/stretchy tapered trousers, usually try to choose items that I'm likely to use while away. Socks and slip on vans trainers so that I can take my shoes off while I am sat. Thin but large scarf which I can use as a scarf or wrap if chilly, cover my head if I want to sleep, or use as a headrest. Cross body bag that I can use in the flight for essentials and means I have no need to get into my cabin bag once it's in the overhead locker. I fly quite often and this is by far the most practical, comfy and useful outfit which looks ok.

HolidayHappy123 · 17/03/2024 14:50

Shoes should be on for take off and landing in case of an evacuation.

Elasticated waist trousers, a t-shirt and cashmere sweater is what I usually wear.

You can buy luggage tags to put on your bag, write the flight number and your name on (I just put first name as initial only so that people can't tell I'm a woman) and phone no.

Not really. Get a luggage tag as it helps identify it quicker but sometimes things just go wrong and it doesn’t end up on the plane. It’s happened to me a few times and it’s always shown up a day or 2 later, it wasn’t lost forever or anything. But it certainly easier to deal with because I had 24 hours worth of essentials in my carry on! Once it was my skis so I rented the most expensive ones I could find on BA’s dime!

Not really as, unfortunately, things do go missing sometimes. Put a spare outfit (including underwear), into your carry on and if you are taking any prescription medication make sure that is in there too, in the original packaging that has the pharmacy label (with your name and dosage), on it. Keep receipts for anything you need to buy as a result of not having your luggage and claim it back on your insurance.

Apolloneuro · 17/03/2024 15:13

I have AirTags in my cases. Obviously wouldn’t stop them going astray but at least you’d be able to track them.

anon1968 · 17/03/2024 15:28

last year I wore a midi smock dress, white trainers and a denim jacket. Very comfortable. This year I’m wearing combats, vest top and cropped hoody.

The only thing you can do to prevent it is not check a bag.

There’s things you can do to make it easier if it does get lost.

  1. pack an air tag or other tracking device
  2. cross pack your checked bag with any travelling companions
  3. always take your essentials in your cabin bag eg meds, documents, charger/ adapter/ electronics , basic toiletries, swimwear ( if you are going to a beach resort ) ,one full set of clothes and shoes suitable for your destination.
  4. anything important that it would be hard to buy at your destination eg if you have difficult feet it might be your shoes, if you a very large or tall it’s hard to buy clothes in some SE Asian countries,

Obviously you don’t need to take so much under heading 3 if you are going to visit family or going home.

Porridgeislife · 17/03/2024 15:35

Last few long haul flights: soft leggings, vest, thin long sleeve top, “nice” hoodie (Sweaty Betty etc). Socks and trainers. I just want to be comfortable and look reasonably put together.

Put AirTags in your luggage. You can watch your luggage move through the airport and get loaded onto your flight. It’s very reassuring! Our whole flight recently had our bags left in London by BA and I knew before we’d left that the bags weren’t coming with us (much to the flight attendant’s dismay).

Porridgeislife · 17/03/2024 15:38

Also, make sure your bag is easily identifiable. Tags on the outside with contact details (especially your email address) and also pop a card inside with your contact details in case the tag gets ripped off.
