WTF - Horseshoe Jeans

I’m still not over how bad Mom jeans look on most people. I accept skinny jeans are over, I am happy in my straight legged jeans. But all over my instagram feed are these new ‘horseshoe’ jeans. That basically make you look like you have bandy legs? Just why?

I know I don’t have to wear them I am just despairing of all these awful jeans trends.

I do love a flare. I shall stick with that.

I am convinced that you would all change your minds if you saw them styled properly. I will get my pair out of the wash, wear them tomorrow and take a photo for you all! I am 5ft 4, pear shaped and they are the most flattering pair of jeans I own (with no horse in sight) 😂.

NonPlayerCharacter · 23/02/2024 10:51

It looks to me like they come on a spectrum. Some are totally out there but a lot of them just look like a fairly subtle mix of wide leg and mom jeans...not anything crazy.

Honestly, just never go to MN for fashion advice. Saying the majority of posters are laggards on the change curve is putting it mildly.

AggressiveCub · 23/02/2024 11:08

Just here for the promised photo😂

UnctuousUnicorns · 23/02/2024 11:17

Well, that's the first time I've seen "clown" auto corrected to "horseshoe" before. Although I did think, on seeing the thread title, that "Horseshoe" was maybe a designer brand of jeans, and the OP was wtfing over the prices.

I know that they are fashionable! But I draw they limit at wearing something that makes me look awful and doesn’t suit me. I can be just as fashionable in a different pair of jeans.

I can see they’d flatter someone with a small waist and wide hips.

Me too, but I really struggle to get any that are not scruffy washed out like they are years old... Use to love Bon Marche Sarah's but since they have been taken over, they are rubbish and never in stock. Any ideas for some that are not massive in price?

I always get mine in Gap as they suit my lack of curves, but they arent cheap so I wait for the sales if i can.

Problem is they're only online now, and keep changing their styles, and their sizes are weird! I miss the days when you could try things on in an actual shop....

Does anyone remember the black miss sixty trousers? Tight all the way down the knee and then as much flare as you dare.

I looked shit hot in those.
Well - i read recently that, worn with trainers and the baggy jumper thing, they're coming back! (flare yoga pants now).

I ordered a pair a couple of days ago, i put them on, i put on my trainers, i put on a little vest top under a baggy jumper which hung off my neck. My arse looked good, my tummy looked flat, my legs looked long!

I went downstairs ... unprompted 1 of my 20 something DDs looked up over her phone and said 'hey mum, nice outfit!' and the other looked up and said 'oh yeah - like the trews on you'. Yay 😃

Went in the kitchen and DH said 'I remember those trousers!' with a glint in his eye 😉
(i did tell him they're not my actual ones from back in the naughties 😂)

Yes I remember them! They are very flattering and leg lengthening- I do think I look best in a flare these days! Can’t wait until summer when I can wear them more - the rain is an issue at the moment.

Also, skinny jeans only look ok if you’re tall and thin! I see so many middle aged apple shaped women wearing them I wonder if they know how they look from the back. Just ghastly.

No, I’m tall and reasonably slim and I think I look awful in them.

wronginalltherightways · 23/02/2024 13:37

canyouseemyhousefromhere · 23/02/2024 09:38

😂😂😂 Spat my coffee out! 😂😂😂

They just look like someone has been sitting on their horse for far too long 😂

cannaethink · 23/02/2024 13:44

I like them! I don’t have a pair yet as I’d need to try them on in an actual shop. I’ve got a barrel pair and a balloon pair already, and mostly wear baggy jeans now. I wore skinnies for years but now my eyes are used to seeing me in baggy jeans I find the skinnies look absolutely horrendous on me.

I’m not massively bothered if something is flattering. Looking ‘flattered’ isn’t my goal.

antikkiti · 23/02/2024 14:09

chattyness · 20/02/2024 20:46

skinny jeans aren't over for me I wear high waist skinny jeans form simply be and they look and feel great

I live in south west France and all the women here are still wearing skinny jeans - it's almost impossible to see any other type. If you've got the figure for them they look great. That horseshoe style is probably the ugliest and most unflattering ever.

MrsGrumpyKnickers · 23/02/2024 14:51

I’m still in skinny jeans, but then I’ve never been up with fashion and at 50 now I just don’t care. I am also 5’4” so anything remotely baggy make me look even shorter and wider🤣

Orangestheonlyfruit · 23/02/2024 16:12

I wear slim, skinny, wide and flared jeans. Whatever I'm in the mood for. Often depends what footwear I plan to wear.
Knee boots = skinny
Platforms = flared
Never 'mom' jeans because they look hideous on me, really unflattering and just grim.

Sophia89 · 23/02/2024 16:15

Some of those pictures need warnings 🤠
I really can't see the appeal, when they make your legs look broken. Low rise jeans (think early noughties) make me feel equally uneasy.

Mummyofbananas · 23/02/2024 16:32

I actually quite like them- I'm not convinced skinny jeans are over though, my very very trendy 17 year old neice still wears them on occasion- maybe not super skinny ones like we used to wear.

Skinny jeans are just flattering on a lot of people, i'm quite petite and jeans always drowned me and looked terrible, I never looked good until skinny jeans became a thing haha

Sureaseggs44 · 23/02/2024 18:50

Loons now they were great . There was a loon shop in Reading.

semideponent · 23/02/2024 19:12

I love my horseshoe jeans. Don't care how they look (that's a good part of the pleasure). They are insanely comfortable to wear.

i loved my loons . I had a pale lilac pair that I wore with a cheesecloth shirt .

Now this pic of Amal Clooney - if you sewed that split up, you’d have loons. Could they be back?

WTF - Horseshoe Jeans
Charlieradioalphapapa · 23/02/2024 19:56

Though on reflection they’re not quite tight enough at the knees for loons

Maybe some of us can just see past the "you must wear this because it's the latest thing" mindset. When I was a teen I might have worn something I didn't really like because it was touted as the latest fashion, but after that I grew up. If people want to look like they've been sitting on a horse all day then good for them, just don't expect the rest of us to stand back and admire the ridiculous look.
