WTF - Horseshoe Jeans

I’m still not over how bad Mom jeans look on most people. I accept skinny jeans are over, I am happy in my straight legged jeans. But all over my instagram feed are these new ‘horseshoe’ jeans. That basically make you look like you have bandy legs? Just why?

I know I don’t have to wear them I am just despairing of all these awful jeans trends.

I do love a flare. I shall stick with that.

Skinny jeans are more rickett-y if you ask me - a lot of people are somewhat knock-kneed and there's nowhere to hide in skinnies. Not that I care - they're denim leg coverings, not the meaning of life.

Really? A lot of people? Do you live somewhere particularly sun-deprived?

Squirrelsnut · 25/02/2024 12:53

No. But a significant number of people's legs bow in somewhat at knee level then out again to the ankle. Nothing extreme, but noticeable.
It struck me that the rickets criticism of the other style was a bit ironic.

You have just described my legs! Always hated them

ItsallIeverwanted · 25/02/2024 13:31

I think the key thing is- different body shapes suit different types. Wide legged trousers and baggy jeans look amazing on pear shapes or people with waists especially, as they can wear slightly tighter tops and it all balances out. If you are an apple, like me, then these can make you look wider at your widest point, and not show off your slimmer legs. That said, I think all body types can style them, I'm an apple currently wearing baggy flared jeans and with a bit of a chunky boot and a nice top I think they look good. My skinnies are not too skinny, more slim and they look great all black with camel boots.

I guess to justify everyone buying these, their different attributes need to be highlighted otherwise they are just baggy barrel type jeans, so that's why the models look ridiculous!

ItsallIeverwanted · 25/02/2024 13:33

I have never seen someone with skinny legs and ricket-type bowing, I really haven't. It's a shame to give people a complex when there's no such thing. It's like 'thigh gaps', it just creates stress about bodies which are completely normal.

ShiveringMeTimbers · 25/02/2024 14:32

I used to love Miss Sixty trousers and jeans. Also quite liked Miss Selfridge and River Island. The last time I looked at the River Island website it bore absolutely no resemblance to the types of clothes it used to sell back in the early 00s. I know styles have changed obviously but it seems to be aimed at a completely different demographic now. I still think about a gorgeous long black cardigan with embroidery I bought in 2002.

You’ve obviously never seen Kate Moss’ legs.

Dogdo · 25/02/2024 16:52

I love my high-waisted mom jeans. Small waist, big bum, I have never found a pair of jeans that fit me so well. And oh so comfortable. Skinny jeans be damned!!

Not a fan of the horse shoe jeans though.

Delatron · 26/02/2024 12:28

Bow legs go out at the knees. Knock knees turn in. I’m a bit knock kneed. It means you’re internally rotated at the hip. They are different things.

I don’t have a complex but it means I really need to work on hip
and glute strength to get my knees in good alignment. Going off topic…!

I just googled horseshoe jeans....they look absolutely ridiculous...who in their right mind would go out wearing those?

WhataPithy · 01/03/2024 09:10

I ordered the Warehouse jeans as I really liked the look of them. At first they felt quite enermous but having tried them on and off in the last couple of days, my eye is already used to them.

My DH’s verdict is “they’re just baggy jeans” 😒

I think I’ll keep them, I do like a baggy jean… I like it that these are slightly cropped in length, will work well with hightops.

If anyone is thinking of ordering them, they do come small. I’m pretty consistent size 8 but these are size 10. I’m 5.4 (161cm) tall.

They look really good on you @WhataPithy - I think some do just look more like baggy jeans - so less of a ‘horseshoe’! There’s a scale!

OP posts:
ShiveringMeTimbers · 01/03/2024 10:01

They fit you perfectly but I must admit I thought you were bending your knees out, especially in the first photo.

WhataPithy · 01/03/2024 10:06

@Delatron yes definitely a scale, I don’t like the extreme shaped ones, wouldn’t have the confidence to wear them anyway!

@ShiveringMeTimbers Not bending at all 😆 IRL they just look like balloon jeans’ first cousin.

My shoulders are wider than my hips so voluminous bottoms suit me in general.

D20 · 01/03/2024 10:27

Love them on you @WhataPithy I’m still very tempted.

AggressiveCub · 01/03/2024 11:02

oh dear

TastyLikeARaindrop · 01/03/2024 11:27

A lot better in the second photo WhataPithy. Definitely need a fitted top to balance them out.
They're not for me though. They just wouldn't suit my shape and I'm by the coast and would be worried about turning into a human wind sock 🌊

UnctuousUnicorns · 01/03/2024 11:48

Sorry, Pithy, but in that second pic especially, I feel like handing you a mop and telling you to swab those decks! 😉 But if you like them, that's all that matters! 👍🙂

TheLeadbetterLife · 01/03/2024 11:53

I think they look great @WhataPithy, and I am similar to you in that I'm broad shouldered and relatively narrow hipped.

I went out to try some on in the shops last weekend but could only find a pair in Zara that were in a more casual style with frays and rips. They were comfortable and suited me though. I might have to order some online.

You look so cute in these! Love it.

Mumsanetta · 01/03/2024 13:04

@WhataPithy i love them on you!

WhataPithy · 01/03/2024 13:32

@D20 thank you! The denim in these is nice and soft 👍

@TastyLikeARaindrop 😆😆😆

@TheLeadbetterLife Thanks! I haven’t been to Zara in ages, may need to have look.

@EmailMyHeart Thank you! 💗

@Mumsanetta Thank you! We can be fashionable together in our horseshoe jeans 👯

@UnctuousUnicorns I hear you 😆 but these seem less ridiculous when one moves.. I think 🤔

D20 · 06/05/2024 14:02

Just remembered this hilarious thread when I saw Chloe Loves to Shop in hers on stories yesterday. She styles them well.

I ordered the Warehouse ones eventually and although they didn’t do with what I had initially thought they would I’ve gone French style, with blouses nipped in at the waist and worn mine with heeled boots and ballet flats. Hoping to wear them with some sandals and vest tops come summertime.

Delatron · 06/05/2024 14:44

Ha, I started this thread and even I’m eying them up! The more gentle versions which are basically like a wide legged jean!
