WTF - Horseshoe Jeans

Delatron · 20/02/2024 18:19

I’m still not over how bad Mom jeans look on most people. I accept skinny jeans are over, I am happy in my straight legged jeans. But all over my instagram feed are these new ‘horseshoe’ jeans. That basically make you look like you have bandy legs? Just why?

I know I don’t have to wear them I am just despairing of all these awful jeans trends.

I do love a flare. I shall stick with that.

Skinny jeans live on for me!

ShiveringMeTimbers · 21/02/2024 13:29

I'm really struggling to find a decent pair of skinny jeans though. My current ones are many years old. I'm an hourglass shape and find they come up too tight around the hips and arse, while gaping at the waist. I've just bought three pairs of H&M high waisted skinny jeans as they're currently 20% off for members. Praying at least one pair fits.

Skinny jeans only briefly went away, but are now back, renamed 'cigarette jeans' or something like that.

Cigarette is a straight cut, as the name implies, and often cut just above the ankle. It doesn't cling to the calves and ankles like a skinny fit. Cigarette-cut trousers have been around forever.

Verv · 21/02/2024 13:37

Im delighted to not be fashionable.
Ill stick with my out of favour straight cut and skinnies!

Lion400 · 21/02/2024 13:40

Still a boot cut girl over here. Forever staying in the 90’s! My happy place 😂

ErrolTheDragon · 21/02/2024 13:47

Different jeans suit different people. I can't do skinnies at all. Bootcut were ok, straight 'slimleg' are fine. My dd recently commented some jeans looked good on me ... they are 'mom' jeans. Grin

The horseshoe ones look like they might be ok on some women (definitely not me) but that there would be other styles that would be way better.

goody2shooz · 21/02/2024 14:21

I’m obviously well out of touch but ‘horse shoe’ jeans just made me laugh 🤣. Emperor’s new clothes right there 🤣

Notcontent · 21/02/2024 14:30

The problem is that a many of the really baggy styles - whatever the shape - only look good if you are very tall and slim. And preferably wear them with a skimpy top to balance it out.

skinny jeans aren't over for me I wear high waist skinny jeans form simply be and they look and feel great

@D20 they are over in the sense of they are not cool. They can still be worn obviously in the same way lots of unfashionable things are still in shops and can be worn. There isn't some authority stopping you

pokebowls · 21/02/2024 14:56

AuntieStella · 20/02/2024 21:00

Skinny jeans aren't over

The industry (whose aim is to sell you more clothes) have been trying to kill them off for about 15 years now, but they remain the biggest selling style.

So if you want to wear a different cut, because that's your preferred personal style, then enjoy them (and be glad that so many versions co-exist).

But If you like the classic simplicity of a skinny shape that follows the natural outline of the body, keep wearing that

What do you mean by 'over'. They aren't fashionable at the moment but that's not to say you can't buy or wear them. When flares were out you could still wear them. There isn't some authority that is going to punish you. There are always styles that people will wear regardless of whether there are in fashion or not. Like leggings, colours that are not in fashion etc. you can still wear them

AggressiveCub · 21/02/2024 15:00

OMFG

had to google, never heard of them, but jeez they are terrible.😂 I already have bandy legs and so I have never worn skinny jeans, I do not like the look of them. I have always worn bootcut, whether in fashion or not . I just wear what I like and feel comfortable in.

HellonHeels · 21/02/2024 16:05

I love them! Great shape.

SecondHandFurniture · 21/02/2024 16:59

You know what needs a comeback? Topshop Mooch boyfriend jeans. They're a bit like those M&S carrot ones but not tapered. I loved mine sooooo much in 2005.

OooScotland · 21/02/2024 17:01

Well they’re hideous, for one. For another I’m 5’0” with very short legs so not a hope of them fitting even if they were nice. I still wear my skinnies with winter boots (for practicality), or straight wide legs with trainers or plimsolls. And so do a lot of other people if my last trip into town was anything to go by.

HowNice23 · 21/02/2024 18:28

I LOVE skinny jeans. My legs are my best feature I dont want to wear Kim Jong Uns sillouette.

Talkamongstyourselves · 21/02/2024 18:36

Well if "Horseshoe" jeans are what passes for cool/trendy this week, I'll stick to my very uncool and not trendy skinnies.

Notsure94 · 21/02/2024 18:44

I'd look like a yacht in full sail in those.

maddiemookins16mum · 21/02/2024 18:57

I’ve had to google them, omg they are awful.

PyongyangKipperbang · 22/02/2024 01:45

NOT rtft but just wanted to say....I am sticking with skinnies. Dont care if they are not acceptable fashion, they suit me. And given that skinnies are absolutley everywhere and outsell every other style by miles, I am not the only one who thinks this!

PyongyangKipperbang · 22/02/2024 01:46

And I didnt wear bootcut ONCE during the 90's, which was quite a rebellion let me tell you!

IloveAslan · 22/02/2024 04:40

Tatiani · 21/02/2024 08:48

I agree with bootcuts being not particularly forgiving, especially when they’re (too) tight around the hips and thighs. Same goes for flares.

Personally I think skinnies must be the most unforgiving style of jean ever invented. I don't have the best figure in the land - far from it - but I look reasonably good in bootcuts and flares. I probably could get away with skinnies, but many people end up looking like parsnips.

IloveAslan · 22/02/2024 04:46

Lion400 · 21/02/2024 13:40

Hooray - a friend!!! Me too.

Netaporter · 22/02/2024 05:02

I tend to ignore anything recommended by the Times fashion editor. She was recommending these shape jeans recently. Along with some god-awful 1970’s quilted jackets. If I’d taken her advice, worn both together and popped a head scarf on for good measure, at my size I’m pretty certain I’d have resembled a matryoshka doll 😂

I firmly place this sort of garment in the ‘trying too hard’ pile I’m afraid.

SulkySeagull · 22/02/2024 05:08

Even Polly Sayer looks absolutely awful in them, I can’t believe the industry is trying to push them on us.
