Mine is that often when trousers are described as 'high-waisted', they are not at all high waisted on me. They just aren't hipsters!

The rubbish quality of so much stuff these days. I don't want to buy fast fashion, I want to buy clothes in good quality fabric that will last years, but it seems almost impossible on the high street at the moment. Also the pricing and constant sales, discount codes etc, it makes shopping feel like a game and it's exhausting!

User1789 · 31/01/2024 14:29

I agree that trying to avoid 'fast fashion' feels like an awful game. Not least as I have had very poor experiences with some of the labels trying to claim to be sustainable. They are just completely unwashable, which is hardly sustainable!

I shelled out £70 for a pair of Saint and Sofia trousers that bobbled on the third super-duper gentle 30 wash they said I had to wash them on. Then there were the ACAI trousers for £90 which (not their fault) got thrown up on and got melted chocolate on the first day I wore them. Had to be washed on 40 to get the melted chocolate out and the finish was ruined.

I have replaced the Saint and Sofia trousers with an almost identical pair of M&S trousers for £30, and they have been brilliant. I have thrown them in the machine twice a week all winter and they look like new. After resisting the cries of 'fast fashion' I have ordered some Halara items for outdoorsy stuff, again, for half the price of more sustainable brands. We will see how that goes...

That the way I like to look isn't in fashion sigh- I find the 2020s very neutral-toned, casual athleisurey times (which is fine, I'm just saying, it's just not for me).

LWSnow · 31/01/2024 14:30

everything is black and the few items that aren't black are grey or some garish acid colour

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 31/01/2024 14:31

Fucking polyester fucking everywhere.

Notgivingup54 · 31/01/2024 14:38

My size always seems to be sold out 🤷‍♀️

hellswelshy · 31/01/2024 14:39

Agree with very drab colours everywhere, at least where I'm looking! Really want a red dress but struggled to find one recently. More colour please.

Notgivingup54 · 31/01/2024 14:40

@hellswelshy just seen a lovely red dress on the Joe Browns site.

Fucking polyester fucking everywhere.

This.

Or sweaters that are half acrylic or other mixed fibres.

jeepjeep4 · 31/01/2024 14:42

Everything is cropped!

BigMandsTattooPortfolio · 31/01/2024 14:45

Slits on every skirt and dress and tops with cut outs. Really tacky.

Precipice · 31/01/2024 14:56

Polyester, grim colours. I like bright colours (not neon) and for some things, a fun print or pattern (multi-colour vertical stripes or something).

HolidayAtNight · 31/01/2024 14:57

Quality for sure, and having to pay a premium for fabrics that used to be standards - leather for shoes and bags, cotton for clothing.

In terms of design, I can't wait for the fashion for baggy, oversized clothing to be over. It seems like lots of shops use it as an excuse to put as little thought as possible into the fact that a human-shaped human is going to be wearing the garments, and just sew two big square bits of material together (badly).

And some more colours would be great! Deep, rich colours.

CorpseBridesmaid · 31/01/2024 14:58

The sizes! I can range from a xs to an L!

bring skinny jeans and leather leggings back! Baggy jeans don’t look good on me

happyshineyperson · 31/01/2024 15:13

Too much choice, it’s overwhelming and takes longer to sort the wheat from the chaff.

fiorentina · 31/01/2024 15:16

Poor quality synthetic fabrics. I also
feel style hasn’t moved on much since pre Covid so I’m bored of midi dresses etc. Not that fashion is essential, would just like a few fresh items for my wardrobe.

GodspeedJune · 31/01/2024 15:18

So much acrylic, polyester, tencel, viscose.

MissandeiofNaath · 31/01/2024 15:19

Amishcore

MorrisZapp · 31/01/2024 15:20

I LOVE long denim skirts and can't believe they're actually in the shops again, but most are ruined by having the split at the front. So unflattering! Split at the back please.

DelphiniumBlue · 31/01/2024 15:23

Fabric quality. This applies to almost every shop- even Gudrun Sjödén, with a USP of using eco friendly fabrics and pure cotton has succumbed to using the cheapest fabrics possible.
I nearly cried when I received a package containing this years version of a dress I originally bought about 10 years ago- it’s thin scratchy jersey, nothing like the heavy soft jersey used for the original.
And I do not want to wear anything made out of recycled plastic bottles, or leggings that are see through, ( looking at you M&S and Boden) and I don’t want to pay upwards of £100 for polyester anything (that’s you, Whistles).

Clothesdonkey · 31/01/2024 15:24

Inconsistent sizing.

Online I can filter out colours, styles or fabrics but I still have to order multiple sizes.
Instore it’s the same with sizing but with added pain of only X items in the changing room so you have to try on in shifts if you are trying to get a whole outfit. Also it’s rare to have the bigger sizes in but ‘those can be delivered to you’

BrandyandGinger · 31/01/2024 15:25

Sleeves. I'm always cold and need a cardigan over summer dresses and blouses but everything seems to have puffy, bunchy sleeves at the moment.
Bling on shoes. It seems to be hard to find a a flat shoe that doesn't have anything hanging from it.

TalkTalkTheCure · 31/01/2024 15:30

Terrible man made fabrics. Inconsistent sizing. Sick of maxi dresses.

Challengemonica · 31/01/2024 15:40

Cheap, crap fabrics sold at top prices. If I pay £100+ for a jumper, I expect it to be wool and have some warmth to it. But I'm seeing polyester crap at wool prices. Ditto everything, polyester blouses at silk prices etc. ordered a dress the other day from White Stuff, £40 in the sale from £100, wasn't even worth the £40, maybe £30 from H&M type thing but that's not what i was looking for.

Quality has dived at Boden, Jigsaw etc but customers aren't stupid. I understand costs have risen but the stuff looks awful. It damages their brand.
