Mine is that often when trousers are described as 'high-waisted', they are not at all high waisted on me. They just aren't hipsters!

Bravissimo stopped doing the clothing and only do the underwear now :(
So hard to find longer lengths.. I used to need to physically go into Top Shop and Dorothy Perkins to try jeans on
I did find a tall section in Shein and loved what I ordered.. perfect length and fit.. but if I want smarter, better quality, where do I go?
Sick of the polyester which makes me itch and causes static.. I'm in my 50s and not menopausal yet.. it's NOT want I want to be wearing when I am.. it's bad enough now! Why is recycled polyester such a good thing? It still looks and feels shite

alltoomuchrightnow · 31/01/2024 17:54

and highwaisted isnt on me either.. I'm 5ft 10 and it's just regular at most

dailyduel · 31/01/2024 17:54

Colours. It’s all beige, green or black. Just bloody awful colours on most people. Shops are lacking in navy and some decent colours.

Britpopbaby · 31/01/2024 17:55

Garments that make a big deal of the fact that they contain wool or other more ‘premium’ fabric only for it to be a very small amount.

lovescats3 · 31/01/2024 17:56

Sweaty polyester, overpriced and thin fabric at shops which used to have good quality clothes , everything very expensive

lovescats3 · 31/01/2024 17:57

And baggy loose fit clothes the colour of pus

westvalleystreet · 31/01/2024 17:57

All the jeans are elasticated, cheap and dated looking

westvalleystreet · 31/01/2024 17:58

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 31/01/2024 14:31

Fucking polyester fucking everywhere.

Even in Levi's jeans. I thought denim might actually be cotton, but apparently not!

Mycatsarethebest · 31/01/2024 17:59

Another with all the shitty recycled knitwear crap.

I also hate buying things and they arrive like a folded up mess in a plastic bag. I'm looking at you M and S with my recent 2 cashmere sweaters - not even in a plastic bag within (yes I get it but come on I am paying over 200 pounds)
I recall the days of buying clothes in places like Richards and getting things laid out and folded with tissue.

I hate the prevalence of ‘hauls’. People want to spend £100 on a big pile of tat cause the get lots of outfits (that won’t last) rather than £100 on 1 or 2 items of decent quality. That and the lack of natural fibres. And inconsistencies in quality of fabric.

The 'hauls' trend is absolutely gross.

Appalonia · 31/01/2024 18:04

This is why I'm reluctant to get rid of any of my clothes, because most things in the shops currently are pretty rubbish!

AngeloMysterioso · 31/01/2024 18:04

Everything seems to be aimed squarely at 50+ or teens/20somethings. I’m in my late 30’s, not ready to dress like a frump yet but I’m not a teenager either!

lovescats3 · 31/01/2024 18:07

I'm in one of those age ranges and nothing appeals in the shops

AuntieMarys · 31/01/2024 18:10

I have no idea where to shop. Mid 60s, 6 feet tall, size 14 with big boobs.
Size 9 feet.
I think I may just waft round in kaftans and overalls.

User1789 · 31/01/2024 18:13

I'm pleased to know I am not going mad wrt higher end high street and online brands being just as crap as the 'fast fashion' H&M-type brands we have all been told to avoid.

The longest serving pair of trousers I ever had was a pair of cotton harem pants from Primark, they must have lasted me over 5 years of being worn once or twice a week.

I had to return a pair of Boden jeans a year ago as the belt loop came off on the second wear (to be fair they were pretty no quibble about this), and a pair of Mint Velvet pleather leggings lasted a single season last year before the plastic started flaking off. Only ever washed on cool, super, super gentle wash etc...

Robotnik · 31/01/2024 18:13

I'm size 10. On a recent trip to H&M I ended up with a pair of size 14 jeans and an XXS blouse.

MythicBish · 31/01/2024 18:15

Everything is cropped! I’m in my 30’s and have two kids, I’ve lost lots (over 10 stone) of weight and so have a lower stomach skin pooch. I can’t do anything cropped/anything tucked in/ anything that sits above my hip bones. I just want a nice top or jumper that comes below my belly button at this point, but ideally even a little longer!

Walkingwashingmachine · 31/01/2024 18:15

I agree with all of this. And I'm fed up buying a normal looking Whistles dress that looks cotton, washing it on cold wash very gently and it still shrinking. Jersey trousers the same..they always lose the length after a gentle wash. So annoying

whenindoubtgotothelibrary · 31/01/2024 18:15

Bloody recycled polyester in everything - which bobbles instantly. Wasn't good on its first go and even worse the second time around.

BigMandsTattooPortfolio · 31/01/2024 18:20

The 2020s have seen some of the most ugly fashions ever invented. See the ‘no pants’ trend for example. Plus I do not want to wear a cropped anything in the middle of effing winter.

OpenEvening · 31/01/2024 18:21

Oh, fucking all of it!

I really, really hate clothes at the moment. The last couple of years I just seem to be totally out of step with what’s ‘in’ and hate all of it. None of the current styles suit my body shape and or sense of what is stylish.

I hate wide legged trousers.
I hate loose-fit jeans.
I HATE chunky trainers and clumpy boots.
I hate flowery or patterned midi dresses. I abhor the ‘midaxi’ length that’s everywhere.
I hate the stupid flimsy satin skirts that seem to be the only skirts you can get on the high street.
I hate boxy or cropped tops or knitwear.
I really dislike current trainer trends with a passion. So ugly, and the ‘classics’ that are back in I didn’t like the first time around.
I absolutely loathe 90s & Y2K.
I loathe the shapeless, un-tailored, unstructured sacks in every shop of every level of expense.

Its a shit time to be me, fashion-wise Grin

lovescats3 · 31/01/2024 18:21

I don't understand why all the above tat is in the shops surely it can't be selling well

DopeyS · 31/01/2024 18:22

@BrandyandGinger yes to the stupid puffy sleeves. I've bought some really nice jumpers and had to return as the sleeves were stupidly puffed up and I'm not sure how you put on a jacket without the sleeves ending up around your elbows.

My style is very much not the very plain, all beige, all cream. I'm in an 80s/90s bright colours vibe. I don't think I look good most of the time but I dress happy.

I find it really hard seeing an outfit/style I like but the model is 5'11 and a size 8 and I am 5'3 and not a size 8 so it doesn't look the same on me as it does in my head.

Also just to sneak it in, companies selling clothes that are not sustainable/eco fabric but the price point suggests it. Like £100 for a polyester fleece.

lovescats3 · 31/01/2024 18:23

Is it because it's more difficult to cut with a proper silhouette and good fabrics so it's cheaper to make tat

Restinpeacefavouritecoathanger · 31/01/2024 18:24

Yes I am a size 18 .... Strangely however I don't want a cold shoulder or a wanky motif that my one year old would love on it.
