Mine is that often when trousers are described as 'high-waisted', they are not at all high waisted on me. They just aren't hipsters!

Vanity sizing, everything just keeps getting bigger it's ridiculous.

lovescats3 · 31/01/2024 18:28

I hope there are fashion buyers reading this thread!

Fucking polyester fucking everywhere.

Especially when marketed as a positive. No, I'd rather PET bottles were made into more PET bottles, not mixed with cotton in a top where they will end up as microplastics lost in my washing machine or in landfill.

Gowlett · 31/01/2024 18:29

Supposedly “nice” shops charging silly prices for totally meh clothes. One or mentioned White Stuff”. I was in a large branch of Seasalt today. I have a couple of cotton summer dresses from them, nice shape, length, sleeves, pockets. Nice pattern / colours. Still going strong.
Everything in there, both new & Sale, was terrible. And so bloody “mumsy” (sorry!). Neither me or my mother wanted any of it, even the jewellery / accessories. And we had money to spend. I’m not trendy, but I don’t want to be frumpy.

Tiddlywinkly · 31/01/2024 18:29

Crap material and poor quality/finish.
Places that used to be good, going down hill - Boden, Whistles etc
The expense of the crap.
Cashmere jumpers generally now ridiculously thin and not warm.
Unreliable sizing requiring purchase in multiple sizes online.

I can generally recommend Everlane for quality, but it's American and so it takes a while for delivery and returns, but the plentiful reviews are helpful for the guidance they provide re size and fit.

LadeOde · 31/01/2024 18:31

It's the tops. Dreadful styles with mahoosive collars & other frilly bits that look like they were made in Utah for people in Utah. I can't even describe some of the others, they all just look like someone was given a sketch pad, began sketching the neck then suddenly got some bad news and ended it.

They're all awful! I'm just sticking to regular shirts for now until this crazy fashion trend ends.

BigMandsTattooPortfolio · 31/01/2024 18:32

I buy American brands too. Much better quality. Dh has American brand Tshirts which are head and shoulders better quality than anything you can buy in the UK.

greengreengrass25 · 31/01/2024 18:34

Ridiculously high waisted dresses

My waist is lower down not under my bust

Trousers way too long

lovescats3 · 31/01/2024 18:37

Yes trousers and jeans too long and sleeves

greengreengrass25 · 31/01/2024 18:39

Don't like the high necklines much

Shufflebumnessie · 31/01/2024 18:44

Not everyone wants high-waists and / or pockets.
White tops / trousers that are see-through (but expensive!).
Puffy sleeves and frills.
Too much polyester.
Inconsistent sizes between brands.
I'd like some nice low wedge sandals for the summer but every year they either seem to be flat or towering wedges, nothing in between.
Comfortable sandals that are light and elegant looking, everything seems to be heavy, clumpy & ugly (I'm probably just looking in the wrong places!)

Shufflebumnessie · 31/01/2024 18:45

And high waisted dresses - I want a dress where the waist is actually on my waist and not masquerading as a bra!!

readingmakesmehappy · 31/01/2024 18:47

Tiered skirts.

makeanddo · 31/01/2024 18:48

Quality - it's gone massively downhill. Looks nice from a distance on the hanger, the closer you get the more you see the polyester shine, then you puck it up, feel the fabric and see the price 🙁

BrightYellowDaffodil · 31/01/2024 18:53

The shops are full of boring clothes. It is so rare I find anything I like or which is actually in a colour - I had a look through the “New In” section of H&M’s website and I thought I’d accidentally altered my screen settings. WHERE ARE THE COLOURS?! Oh wait, there’s a small range of acidic colours over there which look amazing on dark skin, which I don’t have.

And the PRICES Hmm

I saw some nice stuff from Cider on my Instagram feed. Might try them.

Cable1905 · 31/01/2024 19:02

The inability to pattern match - I hate when panels on a dress or top are not matched. I was shopping with a friend who was looking for an occasion dress and even at £600 the pattern was mismatched.

Yadayadada · 31/01/2024 19:05

Same thought on man-made fibres than everyone else I just won't wear plastic clothes.
So annoyed with Penelope Chilvers for not doing half sizes anymore, their shoes are perfect and indestructible but I'm not spending that kind of money to buy shoes too big I have to put a sole in - as advised on their website 😂
Cabbages and Roses - beautifully cut, amazing quality - I used to save up and pounce in in the sales but the design isn't there anymore and it looks like the quality of fabrics and confection and is going too.
I wonder if anyone else feels the same about these two brands?
That's it for me then, there's absolutely nothing I fancy buying anymore, it's all tat.

Kalevala · 31/01/2024 19:11

I want proper pockets on jeans, the same depth as on men's jeans, down the thigh so I can fit a phone or card wallet or my hands to the wrists.

Yadayadada · 31/01/2024 19:14

I agree and this is so bad, probably tailoring 101. Not ok on anything with pretentious pricing. Besides, if we match patterns on curtains why can't we do it clothes? (rhetorical of course, we know, money.) Well, stuff your £1000 polycellincel dress with mismatch pattern then.

Almostwelsh · 31/01/2024 19:18

Tops and dresses that you can't wear a bra with. If I'm buying a size 14 top, there might be an indication that I might not be flat chested.

BitOutOfPractice · 31/01/2024 19:20

STOP PUTTING A FRILL ROUND THE BOTTOM OF EVERY SINGLE DRESS OR SKIRT.

This has been going on for years now. I’m sick of it on account of the fact that I’m not 4. JUST FUCKING STOP!!

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 31/01/2024 14:31

Yep: polybloodyester. The devil's fabric.

stickybear · 31/01/2024 14:13

The rubbish quality of so much stuff these days. I don't want to buy fast fashion, I want to buy clothes in good quality fabric that will last years, but it seems almost impossible on the high street at the moment. Also the pricing and constant sales, discount codes etc, it makes shopping feel like a game and it's exhausting!

A horrid, stressful, time consuming game.
Second hand for me.......less wasteful, better quality.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 31/01/2024 19:25

No consideration for people with a bust! Blouses with no darts. Swimsuits only in dress sizes, not bra-sizes. Waists so high in dresses, they end up under your bust or worse, sitting on your bust. The assumption that if you have big boobs you have a big back so any soft crop top (which I'd love to wear) is too big around the band. Basically if you've got boobs forget it!

nononocontact · 31/01/2024 19:32

Perfectly nice dresses being ruined by a thigh-high slit! So trashy and unnecessary
