Mine is that often when trousers are described as 'high-waisted', they are not at all high waisted on me. They just aren't hipsters!

Fucking polyester fucking everywhere.

This 100%. Sick of polyester. Trying to find a nice dress for my sons first communion and everything, even at a higher price point then I usually pay is polyester or viscose.

BrandNewBicep · 31/01/2024 15:46

Sick of polyester everywhere even at higher price points.
Tiered floral maxi dresses.
Cropped tops.
Oversized everything.
Tops with zero shaping - just boxy.

I get that natural fibres are expensive and the days of pure cotton/wool at reasonable prices are very much over. However, they do seem to produce mens clothing in natural fabrics and reasonable price points (though this is changing I've noticed). Even, really high end brands don't use natural fibres - its soul destroying.

stayathomer · 31/01/2024 15:48

The lack of a nice comfy jumper!! (For the last few months!!) And the fact that most jeans and trousers are too short!

HolidayAtNight · 31/01/2024 15:48

Challengemonica · 31/01/2024 15:40

Cheap, crap fabrics sold at top prices. If I pay £100+ for a jumper, I expect it to be wool and have some warmth to it. But I'm seeing polyester crap at wool prices. Ditto everything, polyester blouses at silk prices etc. ordered a dress the other day from White Stuff, £40 in the sale from £100, wasn't even worth the £40, maybe £30 from H&M type thing but that's not what i was looking for.

Quality has dived at Boden, Jigsaw etc but customers aren't stupid. I understand costs have risen but the stuff looks awful. It damages their brand.

Absolutely. Surely the space for those quite highly priced high street brands is coming to an end, when their quality and fabrics are the same as lower-priced shops, and especially as workplaces continue to become less formal.

Remotel · 31/01/2024 15:49

Crap quality. Badly cut. Synthetic fabrics. Cropped or bizarre cut-outs designed to peekaboo my back fat. Nothing made to accommodate a bra.

I want well cut, interesting design, good quality washable fibres made for women. I’m willing to pay well for that.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 31/01/2024 14:31

Fucking polyester fucking everywhere.

This .. so this. I am looking for a smart dress for an engagement/ pre wedding at a lovely hotel. £200 gets you fancy polyester.....ffs.

KnittedCardi · 31/01/2024 15:55

Also sizing. I know I am an odd shape, but seriously just because I have big boobs doesn't mean I am large build all with extra long arms 😡

KnittedCardi · 31/01/2024 15:58

And, and, and, I was in Phase Eight and asked if they were going to get anything NOT in Polyester, and she got shitty with me, and said no-one else thought it an issue. Hobbs also.

Isometimeswonder · 31/01/2024 15:59

Jumpers that are waist-length. Or cropped. I want to be warm. And a hem on my stomach is not flattering.

CrispAppleStrudels · 31/01/2024 16:01

Totally agree with all the comments on polyester / viscose.

I'd also add the lack for choice if you are anything outside a regular height. I need a Long or X-Long in trousers and its beocming impossible. Where there is stuff in stock, its either horrible polyester or immediately sold out.

Currently pregnant and even worse in maternity clothing. Such a tiny choice. In my first pregnancy, had some brilliant cotton leggings in Long length from M&S that dont exist anymore. Was recommended to try Lovall / Love Leggings but their size guide has Long length as being a 32" inside leg. Since when was that long?! Or brands where the biggest size is pre-pregnancy size 16. I'm went up to an 18 after my first baby but do they assume plus size women just don't have babies? Because that isnt what the NHS data is saying.

loveisanopensore · 31/01/2024 16:08

Synthetic fibres for crazy prices.

Cannot seem to find knee length skirts anywhere.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 31/01/2024 16:10

Everything is either cropped or shapeless and even if you can find cotton, it's often very thin
I bought a top recently which looked like it was going to rip when I put it over my head
A lot of things labelled as Natural fibres is tencel Ecovero, which washes like a synthetic
Prices have increased for cheap fabric

SweetPetrichor · 31/01/2024 16:14

I hate the prevalence of ‘hauls’. People want to spend £100 on a big pile of tat cause the get lots of outfits (that won’t last) rather than £100 on 1 or 2 items of decent quality. That and the lack of natural fibres. And inconsistencies in quality of fabric.

Notgivingup54 · 31/01/2024 14:40

@hellswelshy just seen a lovely red dress on the Joe Browns site.

Thank you, just had a quick look but for some reason their website is showing the prices in dollars? The dress looked lovely though.

Notgivingup54 · 31/01/2024 16:22

Trouser length(s) seem to have changed? I was always a regular but now often buying a short at 5'6.

LaCerbiatta · 31/01/2024 16:25

Clotheswoe · 31/01/2024 14:08

Mine is that trousers described as mid waist are super high waisted on me! 😉

avrilovert · 31/01/2024 16:26

Sad beige.

Notgivingup54 · 31/01/2024 16:28

@hellswelshy I've had this before, type in Joe Browns UK & it should take you to a British website.

SleepingisanArt · 31/01/2024 16:31

I have a 'large' bust so needs tops and bottoms in different sizes. I can get bottoms in store but tops have to be ordered online. I can order 2 of the same top in different colours but they are not the same size - and now I have to pay to return them because they can't get their sizes right..... And the lack of colour is depressing......

I'd rather wear viscose than polyester.....

Aptique · 31/01/2024 16:33

Everything cropped! Cropped cardigans, cropped blouses and tops. Hate it.

Oversized jumpers. Not everyone wants to looks like they rolled out of bed.

Arabaloosa · 31/01/2024 16:33

Nothing fits me, nothing suits me, nothing lasts, and it all feels uncomfortable!

MinnieMountain · 31/01/2024 16:40

I know what you mean re taller sizes @CrispAppleStrudels . Boden used to be my go to but the quality has really dropped.

And I like knee length or just above the knee dresses. Everything seems to be midi- what 10yo DS calls teacher dresses i.e. practical and boring.

Precipice · 31/01/2024 16:42

I'd also add the lack for choice if you are anything outside a regular height. I need a Long or X-Long in trousers and its becoming impossible.

I agree with this, and have this problem even more with tops. For trousers, I just shop in the men's section, where my 32" length is easier to find and there are decent pockets. For tops, I wear unisex/men's tshirts, but have more of a struggle outside that. Even if it's not explicitly cropped (growling noise), it's too short and rides up when I sit and lean forward or raise my hands up. But that's not really an 'at the moment' gripe for me. My mother had some beautiful clothes she bought in Italian markets in the late 90s/early 00s - too short on me. I tried on a nice linen top in a boutique in Kaunas a couple of years ago - too short. There the label even explicitly gave a height of I think 165 cm.

Also - too short arm scythes. Uncomfortable, digs in, discomfort when you move your arms forward, argh! I tried on a Sloggi 'Zero Feel' bralette in December and I definitely felt it in the area of my armpit.

EraOfTheGrey · 31/01/2024 16:44

That beige that all the influencers are wearing, its the colour of hearing aids. Manufacturers selling clothing made of recycled polyester and charging wool prices, it's still polyester and it'll still make you sweat.
