Mine is that often when trousers are described as 'high-waisted', they are not at all high waisted on me. They just aren't hipsters!

Oh, fucking all of it!

I really, really hate clothes at the moment. The last couple of years I just seem to be totally out of step with what’s ‘in’ and hate all of it. None of the current styles suit my body shape and or sense of what is stylish.

I hate wide legged trousers.
I hate loose-fit jeans.
I HATE chunky trainers and clumpy boots.
I hate flowery or patterned midi dresses. I abhor the ‘midaxi’ length that’s everywhere.
I hate the stupid flimsy satin skirts that seem to be the only skirts you can get on the high street.
I hate boxy or cropped tops or knitwear.
I really dislike current trainer trends with a passion. So ugly, and the ‘classics’ that are back in I didn’t like the first time around.
I absolutely loathe 90s & Y2K.
I loathe the shapeless, un-tailored, unstructured sacks in every shop of every level of expense.

Its a shit time to be me, fashion-wise Grin

Have a look in Zara, suiting seems to be back

BeaRF75 · 31/01/2024 19:39

I walked all around the clothing section of John Lewis last week and every single thing was hideous - I had JL vouchers in my pocket but I came back with them unspent.

TheBookAccordingtoIsaac · 31/01/2024 19:47

Poor hemming. Ive bought trousers from Zara and M&S and the hem falls almost immediately after a couple of wears.

Remotel · 31/01/2024 19:50

Also that chambray isn’t chambray anymore and is always that shiny tencel stuff, same with denim shirts.

BrondesburyBelle · 31/01/2024 19:51

Polyester and acrylic. ‘Wool blend’ coats and jumpers

Orchidlover75 · 31/01/2024 19:54

The fact that everything is frilly, flowery recycled plastic

NonPlayerCharacter · 31/01/2024 19:57

Unfortunately, this is the legacy of cheap fast fashion. It's an absolute behemoth now and there is no putting the shitty polyester genie back into the bottle. We sacrificed quality for quantity and low prices and it drove the entire market to this.

I don't think it'll ever correct itself.

BabyPigeon · 31/01/2024 19:57

For me it's fit and material.
I'm short but an overweoght short, it's hard to find stuff, sleeves are too long, boxy cuts are making me look square, dresses fall well below the knees.
I bought this dress from Vinted, so it was a good price and it's flattering but the reviews are true, the material is very very thin and see through, I have it in black so it's fine with black tights but the material has no weight and I have to pat my bum to make sure it's still covered.

I also like cotton, but it's hard to find. Pretty much everything affordable is low quality, dresses are not lined and materials have no weight.

PangramAddict · 31/01/2024 19:58

Ive been trying to buy some trousers for work. Back in 2002 when I started work I had a lovely pair of wool trousers from River Island.
After MUCH searching, the only places that do wool trousers now are country outfitters a d I'd want to try them on in store for the price. And they're all in Scotland!

I cannot believe the prices some shops are charging for polyester! How are they getting away with it?! Who wants to pay £129 to sit all day in polyester trousers?!

Even ones advertised as "twill" or "tweed" are polyester, looking at White Stuff here. It's actually quite shocking to me that wool just doesn't exist any more. Farmers are losing money to get their sheep shorn so wtf is going on when wool is likely cheaper than synthetic fabrics?!

Everything seems to be aimed squarely at 50+ or teens/20somethings. I’m in my late 30’s, not ready to dress like a frump yet but I’m not a teenager either!

Wash your mouth out! 😂
59 here and have absolutely no intention dressing “like a frump”

LoobyDop · 31/01/2024 20:11

Polyester, as everyone else said.

And in general, there’s just nothing I want to buy. It’s all dull, basic jumpers and wide legged jeans. The jeans will be fine in summer, but they aren’t practical right now. And leggings. Endless, endless racks of leggings. It’s not 2020 any more, I don’t want to wear exercise gear except when I’m exercising.

Yes where is the wool

HolidayAtNight · 31/01/2024 20:19

One related to marketing rather than the clothes themselves - how if you look at something on the website of a shop you've bought from before, sometimes they email you! "We think you should add to basket," "Why don't you take another look at these?" and so on. It's so off-putting and desperate-seeming.

Ilovemycatalot · 31/01/2024 20:21

Oversized clothes trend. I’m petite and they look ridiculous on me.
Also find a nice top and it’s got horrible batwing sleeves or raglan sleeves that I don’t believe are flattering on anyone. Or stupid balloon sleeves.
Notice men don’t have this issue with their clothes.
Agree crap quality for women clothes in general fabrics are thinner and low cut even jumpers which are meant to be for cold weather!
Lack of cotton and natural fibres acrylic and polyester bring me out in a rash.
Women get a really raw deal when it comes to clothing.

MissandeiofNaath · 31/01/2024 20:26

I buy mens jumpers and tshirts these days. Far better quality and colours. No stupid balloon sleeves. I wish I could buy woolen mens trousers too but they don't suit me.

Most of my clothes are from charity shops now.

lordloveadog · 31/01/2024 20:29

I didn't mind cropped trousers and jumpers until one day DH pointed out it looked like my clothes had all run up my body as if afraid of a mouse on the floor.

Thingamebobwotsit · 31/01/2024 20:31

Another vote for poor quality polyester/man made fabrics.

Tomatina · 31/01/2024 20:34

The colours! Always wrong. If you're looking for red, then it's always just scarlet-orange, never ruby red or raspberry. Browns are yellowy or muddy, never rich mocha or cocoa. And there is far too much acid bright green and sulphur yellow about - who can wear that? Very few. So it's back to black, again.

And another thing: high waisted jeans can go to hell.

lordloveadog · 31/01/2024 20:35

M&S - as soon as they produce something good, they reduce its quality. My favourite knickers now have a worse fabric and are cut slightly but crucially smaller. This has happened several times when I've tried to buy another of a good garment. Such a false economy.

Also they stopped doing long length swimsuits. Why? They do different lengths in everything else. 10-12 years ago they had really high quality swimsuits.

LyndaSnellsSniff · 31/01/2024 20:37

High, round necklines. I see a lovely dress or top and sods law it's got a high neckline. Do not suit me at all.

WellThisIsFun1 · 31/01/2024 20:45

T shirts that are cut weirdly do when you lay them flat the whole thing seems to be twisted.

Hems. That. Don't. Stay. Up.

Tomatina · 31/01/2024 20:46

BitOutOfPractice · 31/01/2024 19:20

STOP PUTTING A FRILL ROUND THE BOTTOM OF EVERY SINGLE DRESS OR SKIRT.

This has been going on for years now. I’m sick of it on account of the fact that I’m not 4. JUST FUCKING STOP!!

Yep. And you can add shirts/blouses to that. I don't want a frilly neckline, or a bloody frill down the button line. Just give me a plain shirt ffs.

Yes ! This has been happening to me too

TheMousePipes · 31/01/2024 21:06

Nothing fits. It all looks shit.
This is partly due to my new perimenopause ‘watermelon’ physique but surely I’m not alone in that? There are no clothes for me.
And it’s all horrible anyway. Crap fabric, badly cut.

Yes but 100% cashmere is way more accessible now than it ever was back in the day.
Hopefully better quality fabric ( old school) will be the next "thing".
