Botox is it worth it?

Im 50 and all of a sudden I have wrinkles and lines which are really aging, I also look like I’m permanently scowling or growling with collapsed eye brows. Also hate my 11 lines.

I just want to look like a fresher version of my self. Anyone relate? Did Botox fix it for you?

I hated it. I got it done by a gp with 5 years experience in Botox.

I thought it made my eyes look expressionless. Also one eyebrow dropped more than the other and it was both annoying and didn't look good.

5 years experience or not the dr did a crap job

Would Botox help lift "hooded" eyelids?

Can do if done by a good practitioner. There are places to inject that will subtly lift your brows this your lids. But done badly you will look like an alien

I buy Elemis on EBay instead. Less maintenance.

You buy a face cream? Hardly going to do what Botox does

flusterbluff · 31/01/2024 19:39

@Fireflymeme So defensive... no choice is made in a vacuum.
Hardly SO defensive. You put a point of view out there and someone explained why they do.

Claiming it's so defensive is just being passive aggressive. Everyone can see this and it doesn't leave you looking great.

So due to having thick, oily skin and having used tretinoin and high factor SPF for 25 years I don't actually have any lines or wrinkles at 46. Does Botox have any other benefits I could benefit from or is it just for relaxing lines?

I've been accused of using botox due to my lack of lines so if it could actually do something for me then why not!

Edited

It can be used to lift areas subtly

darkmodeera · 31/01/2024 19:40

I have a fringe for that! Which is completely useless at hiding anything when the wind gets up.....
I think botix is potentially a slippery slope. First your forehead is smooth, then it makes the rest of your face look old, so you start on the rest of it, and then you're scrutinising every little bit of yourself......
Having said that I'd probably try it if I have a couple of hundred quid to waste. But also I can't be bothered to do it.

I've been frowning since I was 3 and I'm not about to change it now!
Sorry no help whatsoever 😂

flusterbluff · 31/01/2024 19:41

@Fireflymeme Whatever. I just feel sorry for you.

No you don't. You just want to appear superior. But you end up coming across as just nasty. And nasty people never help the rhetoric they are promoting. You just make your view point come across as the opinions of angry bitter people

My concern is that once you stop you look worse. Do you have yo do it forever? How often.

Worse than what?

NonPlayerCharacter · 31/01/2024 19:46

Always a possibility, I suppose, but it's not happened to me yet. Minimum dose every 12 to 18 months, for six years. I might up it as I get older but I'm definitely not scrutinising everything to see what else I could do. Just pleased my 11s are gone and I don't look angry and worried all the time.

This probably a stupid question but for those saying it’s not too noticeable or it’s subtle, why do celebrities look so young/good?

They have way more than Botox. They have fillers and facelifts and reconstructions.

And if they aren't careful they tip over into uncanny valley territory. Often they look great for a few years and then they go too far

Not really. Many people don't have lines on their forehead so if you smooth out yours it doesn't suddenly look weird. You just look like someone whose forehead doesn't wrinkle. Mine has only just started to crease a teeny bit when I raise my eyebrows and I'm in my late 50s. When I relax there are no lines. Other people show lines there in their teens.

darkmodeera · 31/01/2024 19:56

I think it would draw more attention to my sagging jawline, so I've decided to just leave it all alone. We end up with wrinkles everywhere, so although I've definitely been interested in it, I know won't do it. My forehead is massive anyway and I make it my mission to forever keep it under it's comfort duvet😂

DillDanding · 31/01/2024 20:02

It works miracles. Find someone good and you’ll look fresher, not cross but not ‘done’.

I also love that I never get a headache as a result. Mine must’ve been caused by frowning.

Scotcheggsontoast · 31/01/2024 20:04

My only concern with it is that everyone says it's not obvious/ noticeable, but everyone I know who's had it in my opinion it is really obvious they've had something done. Not saying it doesn't look good, and these aren't people who have gone OTT particularly, but you can tell something is going on there. There are probably people I know who have had it and I'm not aware too so maybe it's more natural on them. Also don't like the idea of not being able to frown!

You don't know everyone who's had it.

Yes, that's it. It's very common. And if it always turned out looking terrible, it simply wouldn't be so popular.

Also don't like the idea of not being able to frown!

You'd need a higher dose than any decent practitioner would give a first-timer to arrest all movement completely. Minimum dose restricts movement a bit but doesn't stop it completely. It's only temporary anyway.

With that said, if you don't want it, don't do it. Just don't think that you always know who's done it and base your understanding off that.

Scotcheggsontoast · 31/01/2024 20:21

'And if it always turned out looking terrible, it simply wouldn't be so popular.'

None of them looks terrible. It just looks like they've had a bit of Botox done. It is very subtle, but it still looks like they've had something done. Some people like that look.

Here's my pics. First time getting Botox after trying it once a couple of years ago. 45 years old.

Some people do, yes.

But I absolutely guarantee that you do not know everyone who's had it done and not everyone who has it gets that "look". When you said "there are probably people I know who have had it and I'm not aware too", that was correct.

See, I don't really mind that. I'm not embarrassed about it or anything and I'd rather look like 'that woman at work who's had a bit of Botox' rather than 'that old woman at work'.

Grazie234 · 31/01/2024 20:34

A lot of botox nowadays is done terribly, the puffy area between the eyebrow is so common now. When it's done well it's amazing (baby botox) but the puffy, shiny forehead look is just odd and worse than a few lines.

NonPlayerCharacter · 31/01/2024 20:37

It might be on the way out now, but for a while there was a trend in younger people to get a very frozen and obvious look on purpose; I don't know why, but it was an aesthetic, like candy coloured hair or a blunt fringe with glasses. I don't think it was ever something that women beyond their 20s generally tried to get, but it was a thing for a while.

Tiddlywinkly · 31/01/2024 20:42

It's fabulous. I love it.

@todayshappening
I'm in Cambridgeshire, any chance you can let me know where you go?

Stardancer89 · 31/01/2024 20:56

You need to keep it up or else when it wears off you look worse than before you started. I know this to be true as the skin is pumped up and once the Botox wears away it’s like a deflated balloon. I work with a girl who is only in her early 30’s and you can tell when she’s had her Botox as she looks beautiful again, you can also tell when she’s due a top up because she looks real 45 ish. I’ll try it but only when there’s no other option and Im Already badly saggy!!

todayshappening · 31/01/2024 20:57

@lolly07766 hey I go to a clinic in hardwick. Here's the website hardwickclinic.co.uk/
