Botox is it worth it?

Im 50 and all of a sudden I have wrinkles and lines which are really aging, I also look like I’m permanently scowling or growling with collapsed eye brows. Also hate my 11 lines.

I just want to look like a fresher version of my self. Anyone relate? Did Botox fix it for you?

Right @FireyNorthernBird so in your opinion there's two types of Botox. The pointless and invisible kind, and the too much oh my god what's stretched her face kind.

And anyone who opts for it obviously doesn't look after themselves in the correct ways, which you do.

Brilliant; thanks for your input.

chaosmaker · 01/02/2024 10:23

The thing is, Ru Paul's drag race shows that with a bit of slap on, any man can look beautiful so it's all fake anyway. The beauty industry in general just contributes to overall depression in society and is on a par with the damage that social media does.

Still it's your kids dealing with the fallout in generations to come and feeling inadequate because of the so called beauty industry.

Just think in Elizabeth I's day they put lead on their faces to look very white. Nowadays it's a different poison injected into the skin. It doesn't just affect the person, it affects wider society.

Especially the people that care how they look.

Lol well I'm single by choice. I wonder who my twice yearly baby-Botox is for? The cat maybe 😻.

Oh my cats tell me how young and smooth-looking I am every day 😂

Now you'll get the comments saying that you're single because of your extreme vanity and plastic face - oh yes I've had those before! 😂

LaDerniereVacheFolle · 01/02/2024 10:36

Yea I'm definitely an attention-whore when it comes to my cat.

I'm shameless ! 🙀

NonPlayerCharacter · 01/02/2024 10:36

You think drag queens look beautiful? Ru Paul himself says he doesn't dress as a woman, he dresses as a drag queen. You think that's intended as an aspirational look for women?

Give me one reason why I should read anything you have to say past this.

WhenWereYouUnderMe · 01/02/2024 10:44

What the fuck has a man whose look is completely designed to be cartoonish and fake got to do with a woman who wants a slightly less wrinkled forehead?

NonPlayerCharacter · 01/02/2024 10:47

a) Those who have had a low dose, perhaps baby botox. Honestly, I saw no difference. Why bother? They looked a bit refreshed. Honestly, a bottle of Charlotte Tilbury Glow would do that for you.

So you saw no difference except the subtle difference we've all been telling you that we're aiming for, and you could easily have believed it was just makeup. Great.

As to the Charlotte Tilbury, no, it wouldn't give you the same effect as Botox. But Botox can help stop the makeup from lining and caking on your face.

Sorry. Missed this.

My guess is you did but not very recently?

Not had Botox but have been trying Tret.

Fireflymeme · 31/01/2024 19:30

This is fucking hilarious. You're clearly frowning with all your might in the 'before' pic 🤣

She is in the 'after' picture as well - that's the magic of botox 😉

WhenWereYouUnderMe · 01/02/2024 10:56

Tret fucked my skin up something awful!

Sususudio · 01/02/2024 10:57

Tret doesn't work for everyone and there is a long period of adjustment. I began in the pandemic when we were all masked anyway.

FireyNorthernBird · 01/02/2024 10:14

I usually avoid these threads but I am going to comment.

I know some people who have had botox. All of them have some serious spare cash, so can afford to go to top clinics. There seem to be 2 types;

a) Those who have had a low dose, perhaps baby botox. Honestly, I saw no difference. Why bother? They looked a bit refreshed. Honestly, a bottle of Charlotte Tilbury Glow would do that for you.

b) Those who I can tell immediately.

With b) I can give a good example. I know someone who was really wrinkly. All of a sudden she has no wrinkles whatsoever, her forehead is shiny and tight, all under her eyes seems to have been stretched back to her earlobes. I think it is all botox. The few times I have seen her everyone has said "wow, you look great". Does she look younger? Not sure. She just looks different. She might look fresher, and have no lines, but she looks like she has had botox. She thinks she looks great, and I don't think she thinks it is noticeable and no one is going to say to her "nice botox".

I know a few cases of b) and I don't know why, but it seems to get my back up a bit which surprises me as I am not usually a jealous or vain person. It makes me feel pressurised. It makes me feel like if I don't get botox or fillers or whatever, then I'll be the old crow in the corner. It also gets on my nerves as I am a really healthy person. I go down the gym 5 times a week, I run half marathons, I drink 2L of water a day, I work really, really hard to keep my menopausal weight down, and look after myself. I religiously look after my skin with natural products. The people I know who "look great with botox and fillers" do none of this. The person above is not prepared to go the gym and work hard for results. They don't like the way they look, how they are aging, so they drop thousands on injecting chemicals into their face and get an instant "wow, you look great".

I see it in the same light as many other things. It is instant gratification, I want it now, I'm not prepared to work hard to look good.

So, sorry about the ramblings. I have wanted to say this out loud, but I can't so I have said it here.

At least you admit that you feel sine sort of resentment.

I think it's important to accept that everyone has the right to choose the lifestyle they want. It's really not something worth raging over. So you feel virtuous. But with that you are feeling angry, resentful and like somethings not fair. But you could make the sane choice. You just choose not to. It's kind of your issue You can't go around feeling such angry emotions because other people choose to do something you won't do. It sounds like you don't like he efffects anyway so why he resentment? Do you resent people choosing to get facial tattoos or extreme piercing? You don't want those I presume. Well you don't want Botox either so why rage at others who do want to

Men don't do this.

Why are so many women determined to give the so-called beauty industry their money and self-esteem?

Love yourself as you are instead. You'll end up richer in mind and body.

Of course they do - but talk about it less

pastypirate · 01/02/2024 11:47

TerrysNeapolitan · 31/01/2024 21:27

And do not believe all these people on here spending X amount of money on treatments that they THINK looks good, have two many friends whom look like clowns with bloated faces, chicken thigh cheeks and a couple of Richmond Sausages for lips, absolutely DELUSIONAL - other half take the utter piss of them - look like CLOWNS. do not buy into this industry - YOU ARE INJECTING POISON INTO YOUR BODY!

As an adult you don't have to get anything done that you don't want to/don't like hun. It's really not compulsory x

NewYear24 · 01/02/2024 11:49

FireyNorthernBird
I can’t see why you can’t train for a marathon, drink loads of water etc and have some Botox twice a year. Plenty people do both.
I am sure the ladies at the very expensive spa I’m a member have both both approaches to healthy and beauty going by their incredible well toned slender 50 year old bodies and fresh healthy looking faces.

NonPlayerCharacter · 01/02/2024 11:54

Botox smooths out some lines. It doesn't make you slim, toned or give you the health benefits of healthy eating and exercise. If you're going to be resentful of people getting an "easy" result that you worked hard for, it makes far more sense to go at people who get liposuction or plastic surgery. And if you really could get the same results from a bottle of Charlotte Tilbury, well then, why not just use the Tilbury and enjoy the fact that you've paid so much less for the same outcome?

Resentment is what it comes down to and that's not a good enough reason. Some people will resent you having the time and money to go to the gym, train for marathons and buy all sorts of lotions and potions for your face. Does that make it somehow morally dubious and should you stop?

I think a lot of people would be far less resentful and angry about Botox if they knew what a minor thing it really is. If they truly believed it made everyone look so awful or made no worthwhile difference, they wouldn't be so pissed off about it.

I spend my money how I want, on what I want.

I do love myself, and thankfully my self esteem is robust enough that I am continue doing what I want to, and that includes getting Botox, without caring about what anyone else thinks I ‘should’ be doing ☺️

WhenWereYouUnderMe · 01/02/2024 12:09

But @notlucreziaborgia if you embrace your wrinkles you end up 'richer in mind and body' apparently so...that's nice.

Do you think at some point we’ll get some new platitudes? Mix it up a bit, you know?

WhenWereYouUnderMe · 01/02/2024 12:22

Nah. Botox brings out the 'enraged, superior, and slightly woo' crowd like nothing else.

Wait till they find out I also had pretty major cosmetic surgery and it's fucking AWESOME. I'll be counting my fucks until- oh no wait, I don't have a single one.

Are you me 😂As well as the Botox I've had a non-surgical nose job and a breast uplift and implants - and they are absolutely AMAZING

I also get weekly blow dries, lashes topped up every fortnight, brows waxed and tinted every 3 weeks, nails/toes with builder gel and regular bikini waxes. But of course I only do all of those things because I'm soooo vain and because society dictates to me that I should 😉

WhenWereYouUnderMe · 01/02/2024 12:46

Oh see I don't do any of those regular maintenance things! Do my own nails and that's about it.

So I am ever so slightly superior to you and am sitting congratulating myself on my general highmindedness.

return2sender · 01/02/2024 12:58

I posted a similar thread last year. I love it. Booked in for my third lot tomorrow. I have it on my forehead.

Edited

I agree, it's also used for medical issues such as bladder conditions, migraines, spasms, so many things.

I don't see why if it's used quite straightforwardly like that, people continue to get riled about cosmetic use.

And for the above, as for everything else, there's a subtle approach and ...Er , the complete opposite!

But again to each their own 👌🏻.
