Too much for a funeral ??

Thekormachameleon · 26/01/2024 12:50

I am heartbreakingly having to shop for outfit for my nans funeral

I have a lovely black dress which I'll wear with tights and appropriate footwear but wondered if this hat would be too much ?

If it helps, I am known for being a 'bit extra' and so is my wonderful nan , she always approved of a bit of glamour for any occasion

It's black velvet and so is my dress

Is it a religious funeral where headcoverings are usually worn?

NoDefinatelyNotThankyou · 26/01/2024 12:53

Wear it for your beautiful Nan, she'd approve!
It's really rather lovely 🌹

Thekormachameleon · 26/01/2024 12:53

Yes it will be a full catholic mass

💐 I think it is beautiful, and I expect your Nan would approve if she loved a bit of glamour.

Sorry you lost your nan, she sounds quite a character. I have never seen anyone wear a hat at a funeral, that looks a bit like a grieving widow in the movies, no offence just my personal opinion.

Fluffywhitecloudsinthesky · 26/01/2024 12:55

Your nan, your grief, go as yourself! People wear all kinds these days, from their jeans and t-shirt (turning up from work) to full-on black outfits.

snowgal · 26/01/2024 12:55

Do it, you'll wish you did if you don't.

She's an amazing lady. The very definition of a lady

Most of the women attending will wear some form of hat, it's just what my family tends to do so I don't know how common it is

I think it's fabulous mafia widow, and if your Nan would love it, and you love it go for it.

Honeychickpea · 26/01/2024 12:57

Well, it will certainly draw attention, and it sounds like that is the motive.

Gcsunnyside23 · 26/01/2024 12:57

I don't think I've seen anyone wear a heat to a funeral, I'm catholic, but I think you should. It sounds like your nan would have loved that you went all out for her.
Sorry for your loss ❤️

Motive ?
What kind of dick comes on to a thread about an outfit for someone's nans funeral and basically accuses them of being an attention seeker ? Are you ok ?

I'm asking if it's appropriate, you can just say no

HateMyRubbishBoss · 26/01/2024 13:03

Absolute wear what makes you feel beautiful that day !

Merrymouse · 26/01/2024 13:04

It sounds perfect for your Nan’s funeral.

I think it’s more common now to wear something that reflects something about the life and personality of the person who has died.

whether that is the strip of their favourite football team, full mafia widow or following tradition exactly depends on them.

ClemmyTine · 26/01/2024 13:08

It's lovely. I have been to many funerals and although hats aren't always worn, it's not unusual to do so.
Dress up as nice as you like for your nan.

My mother had a full Catholic mass. No one wore head covering.

Nasty. Do you feel better now?

LadyDanburysHat · 26/01/2024 13:10

If most people will be wearing hats of some sort then I think it will be absolutely fine

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 26/01/2024 13:12

I don't think I've ever worn a hat to a funeral, and that has included funerals of members of the aristocracy and Catholic masses. And I wear proper hats as an everyday item.

I wouldn't wear it unless I was sure there were others going to be wearing hats.

Plexie · 26/01/2024 13:13

I think it's lovely and very suitable: the veil is particularly appropriate. If your nan would have appreciated a glamourous look, then go for it!

Hibernatalie · 26/01/2024 13:16

I personally think it is a bit OTT. But I suppose that just means it might get an eye roll and you know the people going better than me.

Sorry for your loss.
