What trainers for 2024?

My Vejas look so dated now. What’s in for 2024? I’m a mum who dressed casually, looking for a staple everyday trainer.
Is big and chunky and white still in? I don’t want to get coloured trainers, though they seem to be in right now, as my wardrobe is neutral. Help! Please share your faves and what makes you’re coveting! I’ll share some links below, too

@Lagirl20 , the Asics ones are running shoes, not fashion shoes.

ZittiEBuoni · 25/01/2024 11:48

I like Adidas Sambas at the moment. Lots of different colours, bold or neutral.

Asic Gel Kayano 30 are my current running shoes, these are just an old fashioned style of them! If you want to look like a marathon runner from 2002 then go for it.

Justkoko · 25/01/2024 13:48

Loving the adidas classic styles (gazelles, sambas etc) in bright colour combinations. I only really go for those or cons or something anyway as I don't think they'll ever really go out of style.

Mary28 · 25/01/2024 14:11

Sambas are everywhere at the moment. I think they look lovely but seeing them everywhere turns me off getting them.

KirstenBlest · 25/01/2024 14:17

@NotFastButFurious , I thought something similar but maybe 2018.
I'd think OP was a runner who had found they didn't suit her for running.

I remember about 20 years ago I bought a pair of Asics and they were the wrong type for running but were brilliant for walking. They weren't stylish though.

I don't find Adidas comfortable and Converse are too flat.

KirstenBlest · 25/01/2024 14:19

I remember about 12 years ago when everyone seemed to be wearing Stan Smiths. I couldn't see the appeal.

KirstenBlest · 25/01/2024 14:36

Not only that but they were ubiquitous and didn't look cool.

I can remember in the mid-90s buying a pair of 'leisure shoes' in the local shopping centre thinking they looked good, only to find that they were 'the' pair to have that summer. Unfortunately, it was before invisible socks were around so they were binned after the summer.

innerdesign · 25/01/2024 14:39

@KirstenBlest @NotFastButFurious Ugly sneakers have been a trend for a while now (see also New Balance 530s), they're not just running shoes.

Madly, hiking trainers are apparently a trend (I've heard Hokas mentioned a lot). Also colour pop Adidas (Gazelle or Handball), sort of retro football trainers. I prefer a sort of skater/basketball style so will be sticking with Nike Dunk Lows. Will also wear my colourful AF1s which are still perfectly good. Might buy some NB 550s. I don't do the ugly shoe trend but I also want to look like I'm at least aware of the trends.

SarahC50 · 25/01/2024 14:41

I used to wear vejas but this year have bought green hokas and a pair of multi coloured Hoff trainers x

Precipice · 25/01/2024 14:42

If your Vejas are still in good condition, they're still fine.

NotFastButFurious · 25/01/2024 14:42

ah, i've noticed a number of the "young folk" at the gym wearing Hokas recently so that might explain it @innerdesign ! The NB530s are equally as ugly as those Asics ones. I'm happy not to be on trend ;)

MyTeethLookShit · 25/01/2024 14:45

I was about to buy some Vejas that's how uncool I am.

KirstenBlest · 25/01/2024 14:46

@innerdesign , but they are running shoes. They're designed for going running in. It's a bit of a waste of running shoes to just wear them as a white pair of shoes.

You wouldn't want to wear your running shoes for everyday use because the wear on them will make them unsuitable for running.

SarahC50 · 25/01/2024 14:46

Hokas also are like walking on air, the comfiest things ever x

RowNine · 25/01/2024 14:51

Those Asics are sold in Matches and other similar places i.e. moved on from a just a runners shoe.

Vejas very much a mum sneaker around here.

NotFastButFurious · 25/01/2024 14:54

Our graduates at work are still wearing Vejas!

innerdesign · 25/01/2024 14:55

@KirstenBlest I didn't say they're not running shoes, I said they're not just running shoes. UGG boots were originally popularised by surfers - now they're worn by teenage girls hanging about the shops. Things move on

RowNine · 25/01/2024 15:10

I wear asics and sambas at the moment. Previously NB and have a back catalogue of Nikes 😀

Thinking about Hokas for my next purchase - reckon they'll be big for 2024.

KirstenBlest · 25/01/2024 15:16

@innerdesign Ugly sneakers have been a trend for a while now (see also New Balance 530s),...
Fila used to be really popular where I live before they took to wearing sliders and crocs.

I think you misunderstand my point, that being that they are shoes that a runner would wear for a marathon or something because of the specific properties of the shoe, not because of how they look.

It's a bit like wearing professional athletic clothes as leisure wear.

CombatBarbie · 25/01/2024 15:33

I'm loving my new balance....my gazelles will prob make an appearance in spring (light purple).

SarahC50 · 25/01/2024 15:35

My hokas are the exact same style that my hill running obsessed husband wears to run daily. I however am lazy and wear them as I like the style x

VoleChomper · 25/01/2024 15:47

It's a bit like wearing professional athletic clothes as leisure wear.

But people do wear professional athletic clothes as leisure wear.
