What trainers for 2024?

Lagirl20 · 25/01/2024 11:29

My Vejas look so dated now. What’s in for 2024? I’m a mum who dressed casually, looking for a staple everyday trainer.
Is big and chunky and white still in? I don’t want to get coloured trainers, though they seem to be in right now, as my wardrobe is neutral. Help! Please share your faves and what makes you’re coveting! I’ll share some links below, too

Lots of people wear Asics out and about. They're often in bright colours and look good, and they're very comfortable for walking. Admittedly, not good for when it rains.

If you don't use them for running, it doesn't matter if wearing them frequently will make them less good for running.

KittyMcKitty · 25/01/2024 16:00

I love my NB530’s with wide legged trousers. I still wear my Stan Smiths sometimes and an ancient pair of gazelles. Have been pondering getting some Sambas for the spring.

@innerdesign Ugly sneakers have been a trend for a while now (see also New Balance 530s),...
Fila used to be really popular where I live before they took to wearing sliders and crocs.

I think you misunderstand my point, that being that they are shoes that a runner would wear for a marathon or something because of the specific properties of the shoe, not because of how they look.

It's a bit like wearing professional athletic clothes as leisure wear.

Sweaty Betty et al have built whole businesses based on people wearing professional athletic clothes as leisure wear.

Uktimately people can surely wear whatever trainers they want for whatever purpose they want surely?

I was about to buy some Vejas that's how uncool I am.

I just placed an order about 3 hours ago! I'm so uncool 😂

@Lagirl20 , the Asics ones are running shoes, not fashion shoes.

@NotFastButFurious ASICS are now one of the cool kids for casual wear

You need to keep up

No help to the OP, but seeing a thread about trainers I just had to post this. As it goes, I watch a lot of 8-ball pool on TV and Youtube. Because of the high camera angle, viewers get a very good look at the players feet, although their faces are not always so visible. So there's a lot of shiny 'out of the box' trainers, as you'd expect. But there's this one guy who wears a pair of these. Can we agree they are the tackiest thing in Tacky-world? 😄

@KittyMcKitty , do any professional athletes wear Sweaty Betty for competing in? I thought SB was just regular gym clothes.

@redheadsaregreat , I know they wear Asics but why are they wearing running shoes? The shoes are made for running in not walking.

It's like wearing a proper jodhpurs for going to the shops or something.

Lemonademoney · 25/01/2024 16:45

Adidas Samba and Gazelles (and spezials) are definitely having a moment but veja are definitely still more than ok. Other half works on branded sportswear and they are all still wearing them plus hiking trainers and chunky boots.

Badfeet · 25/01/2024 16:46

I wear proper running shoes as casual shoes. On purpose because the support in them is brilliant for my plantar fascitis (wrong spelling but you know what I mean). They do look daft, especially as I'm clearly not an athlete, but the lack of pain is far more important than style.

According to tiktok they’re very much in for fashion shoes this year. Which makes me laugh because I’ve got about three pairs of them, smelly old running shoes. I obviously need some white/off white ones for prancing around in looking trendy! 😄

I would hope Sweaty Betty is not telling professional athletes that they need bum sculpting leggings!

Handball Spezial in as many colours as you can get them seem to be the thing amongst DD and her friends, though they are early 20s so not the mum demographic.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 25/01/2024 16:59

Maybe because they are comfortable to walk in? I wear Asics because they are comfortable, I wasn't aware I was only supposed to wear them to run in. Maybe I'd better throw them as I can't run!

chalkyc2 · 25/01/2024 17:09

I'm lusting after some adidas samba OG currently...

Graasspp · 25/01/2024 17:16

I saw someone in Autry trainers in Selfridges, promptly got up to the 2nd floor and bought a pair. Really like them, kind of like a reebok vibe.

AntiStuff · 25/01/2024 17:19

Salomon XT-6/ACS or Adidas Samba/Handball/Gazelle.

KirstenBlest · 25/01/2024 17:36

@CormorantStrikesBack , I think we'd get along.
I don't see the appeal of SB. I'm quite happy in Ronhills. Athleisure seems unstylish to me.

I'm amazed that one can now buy women's running shoes that aren't pink or purple.

@Badfeet , if they work for you then why not. The ones I had were too stabilising for running but I could have walked all day in them.

londonmummy1966 · 25/01/2024 17:40

I've got a pair of old white Kayanos that I bought to run in and then injured myself and by the time I was back into it I'd discovered Hokas - might dig the old asics out and try them.

LillianGish · 25/01/2024 18:07

If you like Veja, then I can recommend MoEas - vegan trainers made from biomaterials. They are incredibly stylish and very comfortable. And lots of styles to choose from - I have several pairs.

The OP asked what was currently on trend. ASICS are. Where have you been living to not understand how fashion works? Why is it so unbelievably difficult fit you to grasp that yes, actual proper running shoes are currently considered cool for daily wear. It's hardly ground breaking or unheard of.
I'm currently wearing Salomon trekking shoes as daily shoes. That's going to blow your mind.

KirstenBlest · 25/01/2024 19:28

@Londontown12 , I do understand how fashion works, thanks.

I'm questioning why someone would choose to wear expensive footwear created for a specific purpose for walking about in.

Crocs and sliders with socks are fashionable but it's not a good look.

aLittleWhiteHorse · 25/01/2024 19:43

I have colourful Hoff trainers and they are very comfortable, and not yet as common as I fear they will become. You can get them in less colourful versions. M&S do them with free delivery and returns - it is 10 euro for returns to the Hoff site itself. White Company are also selling them now.

I notice when I am abroad that loads of my friends are wearing Hokas and they say they are fabulously comfy

I thought I was cool in my Stan Smiths. Just shows you how wrong you can be 😂

Moier · 25/01/2024 19:49

Why not just get what you like.. rather than what everyone else is wearing?
