What trainers for 2024?

My Vejas look so dated now. What’s in for 2024? I’m a mum who dressed casually, looking for a staple everyday trainer.
Is big and chunky and white still in? I don’t want to get coloured trainers, though they seem to be in right now, as my wardrobe is neutral. Help! Please share your faves and what makes you’re coveting! I’ll share some links below, too

I'm questioning why someone would choose to wear expensive footwear created for a specific purpose for walking about in.

They're created to be comfortable. People like comfortable footwear. What's surprising to you?

They're also not that expensive. Now on the Asics website, there are some models for 120, and some discounted as low as 60. You can often find them discounted, while nice leather shoes will cost you more.

This thread is making me laugh so much. Shock and horror woman wears running trainers for purpose other than running. It is so funny it must be tongue in cheek surely.

there's always weirdness on trainer threads!

Depends on your style but...

New Balance 550 (I want a pair)
Nike Air Force 1 (been in for a while but defo still on trend)
Nike Dunks
Adidas Sambas have been in for about a year. I have a pair but starting to get bored as everyone has them.

Brunointhemiddle · 25/01/2024 20:19

I love my new balance 327s, so comfy too!

KirstenBlest · 25/01/2024 20:21

A decent leather pair of shoes will last indefinitely. A pair of running shoes will last about 4 months. They're designed to be comfortable for running.
The ones in the link looked like a pair from the Clearance section on a fitnesswear site.

I'd go for the NB.

I’ve been reading along as I want some decent new (not white) trainers. And while I’m generally totally clueless and uninterested in fashion, it is occasionally nice to feel like I’m up to date with the rest of the world.

I like the look of the Hokas and, amazingly, they do a few in a wide fit! I always struggle with finding wide fitting trainers.

Lizzyinatizzy · 25/01/2024 20:38

I want these… and no, I’m not 7 😆

I’ve recently bought a pair of Hoffs - quite understated in comparison to some of their brighter coloured ones
They are so comfortable, looking forward to wearing them in the spring.

Londontown12 · 25/01/2024 22:02

@KirstenBlest not sure why u tagged me I just said to op I have the tigers in yellow 🤷‍♀️

ChangedUserName13 · 25/01/2024 22:08

I've currently got these on rotation;

Nike dunks
Nike air force
Nike court legacy
Converse

witnessprotection73 · 25/01/2024 22:08

I still wear Vejas! Also some smart ones from K Geiger & high top platform converse.

im getting some new trainers for my birthday & I’m torn between NB & this brand https://www.selfridges.com/GB/en/cat/?freeText=Loci&srch=Y

need to try on as I feel weird about anything too chunky.

Bethany83 · 25/01/2024 22:11

I'm surprised no one has mentioned yet but you can't beat supergas. So very comfortable.

paradyning · 25/01/2024 22:30

Bloody hell since when did Tigers cost £150! That's more of a markup than DMs

bendmeoverbackwards · 25/01/2024 23:42

Any suggestions for a smarter looking trainer? I don’t like sporty styles.

alliancedublais · 25/01/2024 23:56

I really like my 574s. Classic (to my mind), comfortable and inexpensive. I love fashion but I’m weird about trainers.

If they're designed to be comfortable for running there's a very good chance they'll be comfortable for walking! I have trainers that are years old, never used for running as I can't but still going strong for walking.

My Asics have been my daily shoe since I broke my foot 5 months ago. I presume one day I'll be able to wear shoes again but I'm not looking forward to it as they are so bloody comfortable!

MyFirstLittlePony · 26/01/2024 08:40

I live in Asics as play tennis every day but want a different shoe for leisure

( when I had plantar fasciitis I lived in my Asics though, they are so supportive and well made)

am a bit lost for new trainers, last year I wore chunky “ugly” big trainers from HM which I loved

MN is hilarious for fashion threads as any S&B get invaded by angry anti- fashion people who angrily say things like “just wear what the fuck you like” 😂😂😂

am considering Hoffs…

BronwenTheBrave · 26/01/2024 09:11

So depressing. Kayanos are some of the best running shoes. I was a keen runner and could never afford them. Please send me yours when they have got a bit shabby and out of fashion.

Rollergirl11 · 26/01/2024 10:07

I’m currently wearing Axel Arigato Genesis, NB 550’s and I’ve literally just bought some Gola Classic Hawks in the sales.

I do like both Nike Dunks and Airforce but refuse to buy the same trainers my 18yr old has. We have the same size feet though so i do borrow her NB 530’s on occasion.

VoleChomper · 26/01/2024 10:10

New Balance 530s remind me of that brand LA Gear from the 90s!

But running shoes should last a lot longer than 4 months if you’re just wearing them for daily life.

alliancedublais · 26/01/2024 11:55

Exactly @FloraMaguire . Nonsensical argument. If they’re designed for running they’re going to be able to withstand a lot of walking!

Janeypr24 · 26/01/2024 12:02

I have had Hokas for two years and recommend them to everyone!

LaPalmaLlama · 26/01/2024 12:04

Hokas are notorious for not lasting v long ( so while not expensive per se they are expensive per mile as running shoes compared to other brands) but that only matters if you’re going to run in them because if you were just walking in them it doesn’t really matter if the rocker is knackered or the foam a bit compressed. I keep my old ones for walking around. Didn’t realise I am now bang on trend . Get me!

Also have some sambas. Worried I’ve peaked. 🤣
