What trainers for 2024?

Lagirl20 · 25/01/2024 11:29

My Vejas look so dated now. What’s in for 2024? I’m a mum who dressed casually, looking for a staple everyday trainer.
Is big and chunky and white still in? I don’t want to get coloured trainers, though they seem to be in right now, as my wardrobe is neutral. Help! Please share your faves and what makes you’re coveting! I’ll share some links below, too

OMG are you really going to buy a new pair of trainers, just because your current pair as slightly out of fashion? Shock
Do you do this every year? Confused

What’s it to you??!!

Puravida23 · 26/01/2024 12:27

I am a 56 year old runner. I own both ASICS and Hokas ( and a pair of Salomons) . I have never been stylish in any way . Vegas/ stans passed me by, no interest in dressing with the herd
Could this be my year to finally be accidentally on trend😃
My main concern however is will all these trend chasers push up the price of my trainers!

Thudercatsrule · 26/01/2024 12:43

Nike 270's are the most comfortable trainers ive ever worn! Love them, have no idea if they are for running or whether they are in fashion, my son got them for me as he has some.

KirstenBlest · 26/01/2024 13:36

@FloraMaguire , But running shoes should last a lot longer than 4 months if you’re just wearing them for daily life.
It depends on what the uppers are made from. IME the Kayano uppers aren't particularly durable.

@BronwenTheBrave , me too as long as they've not been washed in a washing machine.

MyBigFatGreekSalad · 26/01/2024 14:04

I've got my eye on the green sambas at the moment! I've worn my white ones so much so I feel like it's justified 🫣

What trainers for 2024?
Bigdoglittlecat · 26/01/2024 14:05

@KirstenBlest running shoes are designed to last approximately 500 miles of running - unless you’re walking an awful lot, they’ll last ages as a non-running shoe. They won’t cover the same miles or suffer the same wear and tear if you’re just pottering round the shops in them - hardly the same as marathon training in them!

I’m delighted - I was converted to running shoes as fashion shoes when I did a foreign marathon a few years ago with only hand luggage, so literally wore my running shoes all weekend and they were the best thing ever. If they are comfortable for running, they’re going to be comfy for walking too. It’s a no brainier 🤷‍♀️I’m finally ahead of fashion!

I'm bored with Gazelles and Sambas but I love the fit and feel of Adidas so have just bought some new Campus 80s and Rivalry styles.

SarahC50 · 25/01/2024 14:46

Hokas also are like walking on air, the comfiest things ever x

That guy who is running the length of Africa is wearing Hokas (not the same pair as at the start obv!) so they must be comfy!

starfleet · 26/01/2024 14:23

I have a slight trainer addiction, am currently rotating between this lot :-

Converse Run Star Hike - leather not canvas as they seem to fit better
New Balance 327 and 574
Adidas Samba (I have the lilac/purple ones)
Adidas Gazelle
Several different colours of Nike Waffle 2
Adidas OG Country in Silver

DS has Mizuno or Brooks for running and usually Sambas/Gazelles/some kind of ugly trainer for everyday wear

peppermintcrisp · 26/01/2024 14:25

Hokas and walking boot trainers seem to be the thing my DDs in their 20s are wearing.

peppermintcrisp · 26/01/2024 14:28

The Adidas Samba/ Gazelle are ubiquitious and have been popular for a while - the new Stan Smiths as pp said. I think they look awful.

ImJustMadAboutSaffron · 26/01/2024 14:32

At least you are not wearing the boringly ubiquitous Nike Dunk in the absolutely essential black and white. Is everyone a sheep?

MyopicBunny · 26/01/2024 14:34

VoleChomper · 25/01/2024 15:47

It's a bit like wearing professional athletic clothes as leisure wear.

But people do wear professional athletic clothes as leisure wear.

Yes! More than ever I find.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 26/01/2024 14:55

ZittiEBuoni · 25/01/2024 11:48

I like Adidas Sambas at the moment. Lots of different colours, bold or neutral.

I like the Superstars, shoe of choice for late 90's Nu metal bands, they must be ready to be the next Mum Shoe!

fantom · 26/01/2024 14:58

Rollergirl11 · 26/01/2024 12:09

What’s it to you??!!

I'm genuinely surprised that people do this, that's all.
I find it a bit wasteful that's all, but if it makes you happy, then you do you!

Accidentalnurse · 26/01/2024 15:29

Love the way trainer threads always descend into a row.

Always a poster or three saying where what you like, not what's in fashion.

I started one once, asking the same question as this one, and was so traumatised by all these schoolteachery women telling me off for caring, I've never dared start one again. But I always read them!

Accidentalnurse · 26/01/2024 15:29

*wear not where, obvs

It's nice to look current. As I said, I'll still be wearing my AF1s from last summer (and Vejas from the year before), but I might add something more current to my wardrobe. I don't find it wasteful as I'll still wear the old ones, but they'll maybe be like trainers I wear to Asda rather than a day out to the pub. Same as my old DMs go from nice day out shoes, to work shoes, to dog walking shoes.

KirstenBlest · 26/01/2024 15:56

@MyopicBunny , by 'professional athletic wear' I mean the kit that athletes compete in not lululemon ar sweaty betty gymwear.

LoobyDop · 26/01/2024 15:58

I think we’ve identified a new form of trainer snobbery. If you’re wearing Asics as everyday wear, you might be on trend, but you aren’t a runner.

<looks smugly at two battered pairs of Asics used for intended purpose>

KirstenBlest · 26/01/2024 16:11

@LoobyDop , I wear a pair of Asics as leisure wear but they're gore-tex ones not Kayanos and they're not white. The running shoes are Cumulus but I prefer Saucony to Asics for running.

Nike Dunks are very popular where I live. Worn with a North Face puffer or Hoodrich hoodie.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 26/01/2024 16:59

Trainers are my favourite. Currently favouring:

NB 574 - I have a neutral pair and a very garish pair
Black and white Sambas - I do have a blue suede pair too but they are a bit springy for the current weather
Stan Smiths in plain white with no accent colours
Adidas Astir in cream

i binned my Vejas when I got the black Sambas - I never found them comfy and they had split a bit at the inner heel so were destroying my socks.

faffadoodledo · 26/01/2024 17:20

NotFastButFurious · 25/01/2024 14:42

ah, i've noticed a number of the "young folk" at the gym wearing Hokas recently so that might explain it @innerdesign ! The NB530s are equally as ugly as those Asics ones. I'm happy not to be on trend ;)

Marvellous! I must be a young 57! I've found they are the best for practical stuff - walking, tennis, bit of jogging. When I first tuned into them a couple of yers ago I thought they were very ugly, but couldn't shake the practical comfiness so have stuck with them

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 26/01/2024 18:02

Stan Smiths in plain white with no accent colours

I love my Stan Smiths and really want a new pair but they don't seem to make them in leather any more, only 'vegan leather', aka plastic.
