Think you've got problems? Look at my back:(

This is with a 'good fitting' bra and a control vest. Not in the slightest bit fair how wobbly my body is. Size 16 - 18, I wouldn't mind the size if things were firm and Inhate the way these rolls go diagnonally from my back to my waist and that my bras roll up no matter how tight they are, which also pushed the fat out of them.

So sick of trying to hide and trying to dress it into the styles I want in a way that works for my body. Diet is in a good place at the moment, I know weight loss and exercise is the fix but I've been down to a 10 on top before and obviously less fat = smoother lines but the firmness never improves.

Didn't want to wear a blazer with this outfit. Tell me there's a magic solution I can buy tonight!

Feeling sorry for myself!

You need to start dressing for your shape and buy clothes that look good and are flattering, not clothes you want to be able to wear. There are lots of styles that I'd like to wear but I can't because I know they would not be flattering. There are still thousands upon thousands of garments though that are my style and flatter my shape. As I've got older I've become much better at thinking no, thats gorgeous but it wouldn't suit me. Maybe book an appointment with a JL personal shopper who can advise on a flattering shape for you?

pollymere · 21/01/2024 19:00

Lengthen your bra straps as your bra looks too high up - it should go straight across your back. It could be weirdly that your bra is too big. Don't go to M and S for bras. You can get bralettes that don't have narrow bands so don't squeeze everything across your back.

And don't worry about it. You have a back that looks like a back. Do some Pilates to improve your inner core and posture and buy cardigans if it bothers you x

anon666 · 21/01/2024 19:08

I suspect this is a clothing solution. I have big boobs and suffer a bit like this. But I've kind of accepted it 🤣.

Otherwise suggest firmer fabrics that aren't body-con. Something that skims rather than hugs, and noone will notice this.

Bigger top? That one looks a bit small.

Yes.

Sending empathy +++ I hope she's much better and won't have to go through anymore gruelling surgery 🙏

Yoonimum · 21/01/2024 19:48

I just don't wear clothes that are not flattering to my figure and this includes most figure hugging stuff. But I don't wear tents either. There are styles to suit everyone. Sometimes fashion means they are not available - I have not been able to purchase as much recently as necklines have been so high or had narrow V necks whereas the empire line top was an absolute dream for me with my big boobs. I do manage though and feel way more confident dressing to suit my body. If you really don't know what suits you you could save up or request gift vouchers for a private style and colour consultation.

Like others have said, rethink your wardrobe and you'll find it'll do your confidence a world of good. Personal shoppers are great for giving you ideas, even if you don't actually buy anything.
White, cream or beige clothes are always going to make you look bigger anyway and unless you are super toned, no-one can get away with wearing tight clothing without bulges showing either, so the top you are wearing in the photo would be a no no....
For example, I'm 54, a size 10/12 with a healthy BMI but still have back rolls and a muffin top, therefore I know there's certain items of clothing that will highlight my lumpy bits so I wouldn't wear them.
Put simply, in the right outfit my figure can look pretty damn fine, however, butt naked it's a whole different story 🙈😂
Moral of the story, tone up or smarten up.

Did you use the dreaded Mumsnet method for your bra size? Honestly, too tight across the back bras hurt and can also cause rolls of fat above and below. Use the good old M&S way and be comfier Grin Then echo what everyone else says - tight clingly clothes emphasise a problem area that is easily covered. Longer term solution is exercises that focus on the back, if you want.

M&S are the worst bra fitters. They put me in the wrong bra at my first fitting as a child, openly admitted to doing so because they didn't have my size, suggested that I would grow into it. Erm, no, that's not how back straps work...

OP: Get a fitting at Bravissimo and buy a looser top.

Weights and resistance training. Muscles are the body’s spanks. I’d seriously consider lifting weights if I were you.

This may be as simple as you are wearing the wrong sized bra. Fashion industry experts say that as many of us as an astounding 80% are. I'd suggest a professional bra fitting first, and go from there. And if you are considering shapewear, that's even more critical!

"YARBAR Bra Extender 3 Hook Bra Strap Extender Extension Soft Comfortable (Assorted, 3 Hook 1/2 inch spacing) : Amazon.co.uk: Fashion" https://www.amazon.co.uk/Extender-Elastic-Extension-Comfortable-Assorted/dp/B08JJ3FVS5/ref=mp_s_a_1_2_sspa?crid=HOIZHXWV06KX&keywords=bra+extenders+3+hooks&qid=1705883691&sprefix=bra+ex%2Caps%2C161&sr=8-2-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9waG9uZV9zZWFyY2hfYXRm&psc=1

Get a pack of these. Try a non wired bra as well adjust the extenders until you are comfortably supported.

I have scoliosis but wouldn't attack the OP like some posters have done.

TotalAbsenceOfImperialRaiment · 22/01/2024 01:02

You would be better off with a top that matched the skirt. The light top is in sharp contrast to the dark skirt and will draw attention to itself and what's under it.

squidgybits · 22/01/2024 01:24

Get measured and buy accordingly
A well fitting bra can give comfort and a good shape IN THE RIGHT SIZE

CharlotteBog · 22/01/2024 10:18

Tight fitting clothes will show what shape you are, whether that's fat or muscle or bones. If you don't want to show your body shape then you need looser fitting clothes.

Ropeonasoap · 22/01/2024 10:29

Op I don't think anyone over a size 10 can wear a tight white top! It's the top, of course it's going to show off your back fat.

KirstenBlest · 22/01/2024 11:42

Dress size is just a number. Applying a rule based on dress size does not take into account things like height, figure, body fat, BMI etc.
I doubt many tennis players are size 10 or below and they look brilliant in white tops.
I'm a size 8/10 but short and bosomy and don't look good in tight wight tops.

JG4 · 22/01/2024 12:38

This top would not work on anyone bar a very slim person , the light colour plus how tight it is is very unforgiving. I wear tops that are A : darker , B : not form fitting . I also think your bra is too tight and not right for your shape , if nothing else it looks so uncomfortable !

Toastcrumbsinsofa · 22/01/2024 16:40

I agree with the pp who says that the top would not suit most people over a size 10.

I’m a similar size to you, @P1nkLemonade and tend to wear patterned tunics or tops that skim my body rather than cling to it. I never wear shape wear or tight bras as they make me too sweaty!

Oohmontydon · 22/01/2024 20:18

I don't think it's your bra OP, particularly if you've been fitted at Rigby & Peller; I've never had a bad fitting there over 20 years. Rather I think it's the top you're wearing. Going for a looser style will make an enormous difference.

sassyclassyandsmartassy · 23/01/2024 15:38

Shapermint.

But, ultimately the fact you diet and your body 'firmness never improves' is that diet is only one part of a story, exercise is the other.
