Think you've got problems? Look at my back:(

This is with a 'good fitting' bra and a control vest. Not in the slightest bit fair how wobbly my body is. Size 16 - 18, I wouldn't mind the size if things were firm and Inhate the way these rolls go diagnonally from my back to my waist and that my bras roll up no matter how tight they are, which also pushed the fat out of them.

So sick of trying to hide and trying to dress it into the styles I want in a way that works for my body. Diet is in a good place at the moment, I know weight loss and exercise is the fix but I've been down to a 10 on top before and obviously less fat = smoother lines but the firmness never improves.

Didn't want to wear a blazer with this outfit. Tell me there's a magic solution I can buy tonight!

Feeling sorry for myself!

Can you try a shapewear camisole? I can't really recommend a brand, but I have seen some good results. Wacoal has a variety under 'body briefers'.

CharlotteMakepeace · 19/01/2024 18:50

Your bra looks painfully tight!

What about something like this -

EmmaEmerald · 19/01/2024 18:53

You mention the styles you want

I'm a similar size and often don't get to wear what I want.

I think if I tried a shapewear vest it might have a similar effect tbh. What are you wearing over that?

I don't think I'm firm enough for shapewear. I tend to think of shapewear as being for people who are trying to get a perfectly smooth silhouette, so their starting point is that they are already very smooth and they're trying to make that 100% smooth, IYSWIM.

pickledandpuzzled · 19/01/2024 18:53

Long line bra?

Or a shapewear vest without a bra under it.

MaybeTooLate · 19/01/2024 18:55

Bigger top? That one looks a bit small.

pickledandpuzzled · 19/01/2024 18:56

The thing is you have a tiny rib cage. I’m really broad in the back, so have less trouble with this area.

Do you need to wear a plain blouse and skirt? It highlights your most difficult area. I’d wear a wrap front dress in a big pattern. That would skim and distract from the silhouette of your back.

Eigen · 19/01/2024 18:58

‘The firmness never improves’ then you need to pack on some muscle by lifting weights and recomp. It’s the only way I’m afraid.

I actually think you’re being very hard on yourself and that your bra is too tight and would be better with a long line fit.

I also think you should go out and enjoy yourself and not be held back by a bit of back flab 🙂

heyhohello · 19/01/2024 19:29

Short term? Looser bra, looser fastening. When you are out don't show your back to people. You talk to them face to face anyway. If you are sitting on a chair the back of the chair will hide it.

Mid term, choose solid colours, thicker, less clingy materials.

Long term, diet and exercise. Makes you feel and look better all round really.

Sunflower8848 · 19/01/2024 19:31

I don’t mean to sound obnoxious, but I don’t really understand what you are saying? You are annoyed at the fat on your back?

WhereAreWeNow · 19/01/2024 19:40

Could you try loosening the bra? Both the back hooks (so it's not digging in) but also the shoulders so you can pull the back of the bra down into a slightly lower position?
There are various "smoothing" bras out there - M&S do one - which are meant to minimise bulges.
I think long term the solution is exercise. By going to the gym and doing resistance machines designed to work all the upper body muscles, I've really noticed a difference in how toned my back is. No more rolls of fat under my bra. Hurrah! Obviously loads of other benefits like strength and energy.

minipie · 19/01/2024 19:49

Definitely recommend weight training. Will increase your metabolism so weight loss is easier, will make you firmer, and will build some shoulder muscles so clothes will hang better.

As a pp says you have a small torso - small shoulders and ribcage - so unfortunately any excess weight is more obvious and bunched up as it’s only spread over a small area. I have the same. Building up my shoulders has helped a lot, with firmness but also overall shape.

minipie · 19/01/2024 19:49

Sorry that doesn’t help with tonight at all. For tonight, I would either wear a looser top, or as a pp says stop worrying about your back and have fun.

KirstenBlest · 19/01/2024 19:53

You look OK to me but pilates and weights will firm up the muscles.
Just losing weight won't firm up muscles.

couiza · 19/01/2024 20:00

I'm going to try and say this without being hurtful or rude, but OP I am a smaller size 12-14 and a bit roly poly in that area also. Your bra looks like it's strangling you, it looks very tight, and your top appears to me to be very tight also. Size up on both maybe?

There is no way I could wear anything as close fitting as that. I would feel so restricted and I am much more comfortable with sizing up and having a bit of "forgiveness" room. All shapewear will do is strangle you even more. That's bloody torture IMV.

Sorry if I came across as critical or judgmental.

whiteshutters · 19/01/2024 20:01

That is a bad choice of clothing . We can all do that. It does look as if your bra is too tight for you. To wear something like that you need one of these. I have a couple I bought in the USA for under sheer things.

or one of these from M and S

Oh fgs! I thought this post was going to be about real back issues not completely controllable weight issues! Google scoliosis and kyphosis then moan about your back

AnnaMagnani · 19/01/2024 20:06

It's a painful lesson to learn how to dress for the body you have, rather than the body you wish you had/used to have

However it is very much worth it. A session with a personal shopper would probably be very empowering, mine used to just keep saying 'it's not you, it's the clothes' each time I was feeling fat and miserable.

Newchapterbeckons · 19/01/2024 20:09

Op why wear this? I wear draped clothes that gently fall over the frame. You need to be measured for a proper bra and wear clothes that flatter your body shape.

Edited

I was about to say this exact thing. My DD suffered horribly with scoliosis and the self consciousness that comes with it. It took 9 hours of surgery, an ICU stay, 14 screws and 2 metal rods in her back to get her straight and to a place where she felt confident enough to not have to wear baggy clothes all the time. Some people have real issues OP!

Moanycowbag · 19/01/2024 20:18

My back looks the same and I'm around the same size as you, and you either embrace the look and live with it or wear looser clothes that skim rather than cling, lighter colours are always going to be less forgiving, a shaping vest may work but only slightly.

SaladDays2024 · 19/01/2024 20:19

Skin tight white top is very unforgiving.
You either wear whatever you want or, like me, dress for the body you have.

Most women can't (bear) wearing whatever they fancy and dress dictated by body. I don't know why you are suddenly having this crisis? Is someone forcing you to wear this like a uniform or an outfit for an event? Because you would have had years at this body shape to know what doesn't look good and makes you self conscious. Life isn't fair why aren't we all 5ft10 and size 8 with forever silky smooth firm skin!

Don't give up on diet and exercise and just dress in better fitting clothes for now.

Bestyearever2024 · 19/01/2024 20:22

Wear a less tight bra

Wear a less tight top

Don't wear shapewear until you have more shape

Get more shape by doing weights

Butterflysunshine01 · 19/01/2024 20:25

dont wear underwired bra. Get a crop top/lounge style one, m and s or all the supermarkets do them. They're so much comfier and no back fat shows cause the fabric doesn't cut into the skin.

Yetmorebeanstocount · 19/01/2024 21:13

Don't wear a t-shirt in a synthetic, stretchy, clingy material. Find 100% cotton and in a size that hangs loose at the back from the shoulders (and loose at the front from the bust).

Don't tucking anything into a waistband - try to find a top that is not too long, so comes just a bit below the waist, and wear it untucked.

You don't have to look shapeless, just find stuff that fits - without stretching tight.
