@ScottishMouse I vote the scarf. I think it looks great and it is much more versatile than the poncho. I think the poncho is an item that is nice as an idea, but in practice how much are you actually going to use a poncho? If it is cold, I would think you'd be more likely to want to wear a coat or a jumper/cardigan. A poncho will pull up when you want to use your arms, then letting in the cold air underneath. You will also be constantly pulling it down your arms after using them, otherwise it will end up like an oddly shaped snood.

Noeggsontoast · 08/01/2024 15:50

@Snowyowl78 it's the blue and white check crinkle fabric with draw string belt from a few season ago. Though I have another rear fastening one with zip which was the black denim jumpsuit.

ScottishMouse · 08/01/2024 15:59

@MiracleToast what a shame about your order. Thanks for the poncho vote, I do love it.
@faustina and @sonjadog it is actually quite roomy around the arms so although it lifts a little when using them it isn’t straight-jackety and falls back down quite easily. I read a review saying someone wore it with a coat, so I need to try that and see how that might work. I think it will go with more in my wardrobe than the scarf, but I do wonder if I would tire of it. I saw a sales assistant wearing it last week (which was what made me order it!) and just fell in love with it. I think I need to think about it a bit more…

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 08/01/2024 16:26

@ScottishMouse I really like the scarf, although I'm a sucker for scarves. Not quite so keen on the poncho, for me I think it would end up in the wardrobe as something I kept meaning to wear but never did. But if you love it, and it works for you, then you should definitely consider keeping it.

faustina · 08/01/2024 16:47

Further reductions now! Not that I can see many, but maybe once they restock with returns?

OftenOrange · 08/01/2024 17:41

@alliscalm @Noeggsontoast Oh dear , so disappointing that the skirt is a let down. I’ve ordered it in 2 sizes but it seems to be very delayed and I had hoped to wear it for birthday celebration dinner tonight .

@lordloveadog That twill duffel-coat is beautiful , and as something that you’ll love and wear for ages, keeping cosy in all weather ….it’s a most sensible buy!
I’m all for jumping on these when prices are good rather than waiting for a real need which involves spending a lot more and never finding quite the right thing.

Dee1224 · 08/01/2024 17:41

Hi,

I love that scarf @ScottishMouse.

Thanks for the info on reductions @faustina - I have just had a look and the only thing tempting me is the blue bryn at £70. However, I have a horrible track record of viscose shrinkage even with cold hand wash, so am restraining myself.

My two orders arrived today.

Order one:

For some reason, Toast decided I needed another individual parcel for one bauble! I don’t know why it had to be separated from the rest of my order. I am keeping this and it’s joined the others in my bowl/vase thing.

The pebble cord dress with side ties is going back - the style suited me more than expected, but I cannot abide bracelet length sleeves, and close-fitting high neck collarless necklines that have to be buttoned up and won’t lie flat drive me mad. (I had failed to notice that the neckline was so high from the pictures.)

I am keeping the slate cord tie neck shirt that I ordered in a sale ages ago. I regretted returning it as soon as it was back in the post, (I think it was a summer 22 purchase when I had bought too many things and was trying to be ‘good’). I am glad to have it back and equally grateful that it still fits.

Order Two:

Finally got my hands on a Bea nightdress in blue. I ordered the small as it was the only size left. Amazingly, (and despite reviews suggesting it was tiny), it fitted and the material is lovely and soft. Unfortunately, the collarless neck buttons up very high and felt awful, (and won’t lie open and flat!) The drab grey/blue colour and shape also made me feel like I was auditioning for the workhouse scene in Oliver!

The medium striped tee shirt in breen was huge on the shoulders and looked ridiculous, so that’s also going back. Lovely colour and material, though.

Hoping for more things to reappear as ‘returns’.

Dee1224 · 08/01/2024 17:42

Just realised how long that was 🤦‍♀️

OftenOrange · 08/01/2024 17:44

@ScottishMouse I like them both but feel that the poncho is super cute and really special. It looks brilliant with the dresse anyway.
The scarf is more universally useful but maybe you have a few scarves already , and no poncho!

lordloveadog · 08/01/2024 17:49

@OftenOrange I'm glad you see my logic!

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 08/01/2024 17:51

I think the Kate Sheridan tote has been reduced again, but, although it was in my wish list, I don't think I will be buying it as I have spent more than I intended already.
I can see my returns arrived back with toast on Friday but I haven't been refunded for them yet.

Noeggsontoast · 08/01/2024 18:00

@faustina thanks for the heads up re further reductions, I'll go take a look

FiddleFigs · 08/01/2024 18:32

@ScottishMouse - I think the scarf looks brilliant. Personally, I’m not keen on the poncho - I feel it looks like it’s awkward to wear (although I suspect very cosy!)

PretLea · 08/01/2024 19:17

Thanks for the new thread @Countmeout.

My embroidered skirt arrived today and it looks and feels lovely on. Sorry yours was delayed @OftenOrange, and I know you have two sizes coming, but I ordered my usual size and it’s perfect. Sorry it didn't feel quite right @alliscalm.

@mizu the green cord neat dress came and everything about it is stunning. I’m contemplating it in the denim now…

Someone here mentioned getting the Solovair monkey boots - mine arrived but one of the boots are buckled/crumpled (I’m not sure how to describe it) on one side of the leather. I’ll need to return the pair but might reorder. They fit, but I think they will require a great deal of breaking in before being comfortable. Does anyone have these by any chance, and can attest to their comfort?

mizu · 08/01/2024 19:36

@PretLea great news, I put mine on today for 1st day back teaching and wore a thin striped (TOAST of course) roll neck underneath. Cord is so good for colder days.

@ScottishMouse I love the scarf, the bigger the better imo!

Countmeout · 08/01/2024 19:39

@lordloveadog thank you. I’ve just looked and they say 100cm which I think is knee length. I’ll have to have a think. I have the Peacoat coming and will sit tight until I see it. It is a beautiful coat.

@ScottishMouse I love the poncho with dresses. I think the styling video with Style in the Stix showed it as a snood / scarf when worn with a coat. Found it! It’s something I’d be tempted to buy if reduced at some point.

ScottishMouse · 08/01/2024 19:52

Thanks @Countmeout i actually found that video earlier too. Then I tried it on over my coat, and I have no idea how she got it to sit like that. I looked a mess over my winter coat - partly because it has a hood, but even without it I don’t think it would work. It does go underneath the coat ok if slightly hitched up.
I think it would be useful at work and at home to stay warmer than a scarf would keep me, I tend not to wear jumpers these days (thanks menopause for the total inability to keep a steady body temp) and a removable warm layer works well.
Is a poncho a little late 90s though? That is the last time I had one, and I am not keen to revisit that sartorial era.

No1Mousie · 08/01/2024 21:31

@@Noeggsontoast @Noodle421 so in the great scarf vs loafers decision I went for the loafers - I have an embarrassing number of scarves and there’s a rather nice Orkney red scarf in the Johnson’s of Elgin sale that I’m definitely not buying and cannot justify another.

And that’s me for this sale. Finis.

Noodle421 · 08/01/2024 23:11

Oooh @No1Mousie i think the loafers have been reduced further.

@ScottishMouse I also tried on the poncho in the shop and thought it was lovely, softer, more versatile and easier to wear than it looks in photos. It didn’t irritate me by ‘getting in the way’ of my arms as I was expecting. It looked good with the gingham boat necked dress but I already had a knit to go with it so I opted not to buy it in the end. I loved the Yak scarf on you, lovely warm colour and looks great with your slate cotton linen pinafore dress. I have the same dress and I wear it lots with last year’s yak scarf, I love the combination. It’s very versatile.

I had lots of ponchos in the past and the never worked. Esp in Scottish weather.
Sometimes it was too cold.
Most times it was too wet!
And when I did have the right weather, I wasn't wearing something that looked nice with it so it lay there.
I would say the scarf is much more functional.

No1Mousie · 09/01/2024 07:53

@Noodle421 yes, that certainly helped me decide!

whinsome · 09/01/2024 08:06

Thanks those who've pointed out the issues with refund values. The email came today (took the parcel into the post office last Thursday, I think so not bad for timing) and it's for xxx.99! Will get on to customer service.

TosstTastic · 09/01/2024 08:16

I flounced from this thread and Toast for a good while after refunds took to much effort to chase and correct.
After buying in-store last summer, I stupidly bought in the sale and obviously have a heap of returns, will Kilver Court sort this for me? I think Cheltenham is closed and that would be the nearest.

AFingerofFudge · 09/01/2024 08:19

@TosstTastic I think Kilver Court is closed at the moment but it might be just very temporary- I saw a post about a flood which is also the issue with Cheltenham- that is my closest store and it looks like they might be closed for some time. I used to always take my returns into the shop for immediate refunds without the risk of the postal service etc but now I have to take that risk again.

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 09/01/2024 08:27

My refunds came through this morning, luckily all ok. Can’t believe this 99p problem other people are having, what on earth are toast doing 🤦‍♀️.
