@sonjadog i tried a few Brora things befor xmas and they both came up small

Noeggsontoast · 08/01/2024 10:42

Two parcels for me today. The ochre wrap scarf is so much more dull in colour than presented on screen, so is going back. I actually thought I'd been sent the wrong colour.

The Bryn radicchio dress just didn't suit me at all so another return and didn't fit quite right either.

I ordered the striped Breen/powder blue tee and will keep that for my linen balloon trousers and my ecru barrel leg dungarees. I've been waiting for that to go in the sale for a while.

I'm now looking forward to the new season's preview.

lordloveadog · 08/01/2024 11:30

@sonjadog I tried some things from Brora and gave up. I'm also an 18. They came up fairly small, but above all seemed to be designed for a slight person who'd got fat. Whereas I'm a very large person - even pretty slim I needed a 14. So the fit was just all wrong. No room for shoulders in particular.

lordloveadog · 08/01/2024 11:32

At last got home to my parcels! Most purchases going back, because I don't love them.

But that twill duffle coat is actually glorious, so that's staying! Also some tank tops, a merino top, and some socks. It's still a coat I don't really need, but it's beautiful and I'll wear it, and I'd never find one as nice if I hunted for it. I'm sure this makes sense somewhere.

faustina · 08/01/2024 11:49

@sonjadog - Brora has varying sizing I've found, with some things (I think they call it a 'classic' fit) being really neat and others quite oversized/slouchy. They do have very helpful and responsive customer services though, so I would give them a ring if I were you, and ask for measurements

everything I sent back last week has been refunded and my bowls, salt bowl and M humbug jumper are finally on their way - it's all very slow this sale isn't it?

@Noeggsontoast - I was thinking about the ochre scarf but couldn't remember how much it was in the sale - can you remind me? I might give it a go

Noeggsontoast · 08/01/2024 12:04

@faustina it was £110 in the sale.

alliscalm · 08/01/2024 12:14

Oh dear. The velvet pinafore and the embroidered skirt arrived and both are going back, I’m afraid. The pinafore hit my boobs at exactly the wrong place and the velvet felt thin, not luxe. Definitely not worth the full price. I’d coveted that skirt and it is beautifully made but it made me look as wide as a house and I’d have to break my golden rule and buy something new to go with it because nothing much from my wardrobe worked. But I tried on the tie neck Bryn again and I’ve decided to keep it.

Noeggsontoast · 08/01/2024 12:38

@alliscalm I had the same issue with that skirt. I wish it had a real waist band and not elastic it would look so much better. I still reminisce of a velvet skirt I had from Monsoon in the mid 90s. Wore it to til it fell apart. Fully lined luxe velvet, washed like a dream. Fitted beautifully and had a lovely shape. Never seen one as good that since.

sonjadog · 08/01/2024 12:50

@lordloveadog I am the same. Even at my slimmest I am a 14/16. I will give it a miss then.

Countmeout · 08/01/2024 13:15

Two parcels arrived a day earlier than predicted by PO.

Cashmere scarf in Spruce that I thought might be a birthday present for my daughter. Not as looked online either. Not a green she or I would want atm, too school colours for us. It looked more jade green on screen.

Velvet jacket and skirt. The jacket has very wide cuffs , feels too light and insubstantial for me.
Love love love the skirt, feels much heavier. I like the fairly wide elasticated waist band, so comfortable. I bought S the same S my poplin skirt and think that was the right decision. I think cleverly like the poplin skirt there’s less material at the front than back. I think I can wear it casually or dress up if ever required. And doesn’t make me look tubby with a top tucked in ( deluded much) . Can someone just reassure me that it’s actually navy?

My leach bowls are due tomorrow. I have seen these in the flesh in store so will not be disappointed in the size (hopefully).

I love that duffle @lordloveadog , the sort of hing that would do forever. Is it very long? One of the reviews seem to imply it might be.

@Countmeout oh dear you’ve sold me on that skirt! Mostly out of stock though. What’s the sizing like?

No1Mousie · 08/01/2024 13:53

@sonjadog I think Brora knit wear tends to be a bit bigger than expected, but their dresses and skirts are really neat fitting. Where I’d be a 12 in Toast I’d be a 14 in Brora if that makes sense?

Firesideknitting · 08/01/2024 14:09

My last 2 parcels arrived today, Sturlini boots are beautiful, as is the velvet skirt and trousers, the velvet/silk jumpsuit is fairly lightweight but again stunning .. all
keepers for me, just have to organise a dinner party so I can wear the gorgeous jumpsuit ….

Countmeout · 08/01/2024 14:15

@Snowyowl78 well it’s measuring slightly smaller than the measurements say in the chart 🤔 . I am irl a 10-12. Probably more upper end atm. I do like things fairly snug. But it feels really comfortable. Old Toast I bought have bought an 8 in an elasticated waist but the recommended size in this S (and the poplin ) is probably about right. Not sure any of that makes sense.

@Countmeout thanks! Will see if a medium turns up

ScottishMouse · 08/01/2024 15:21

My three parcels made it from Swansea. I’ve just spent ages trying on, and I’m swithering. Nearly everything I like is full price stock 🫤 The chambray shirt with the frill collar is terrible on me, too boxy, but also the collar is completely uneven so it is a good half inch if not more longer one one side than the other (where the sides meet in the middle so very obvious). I love the alpaca mix poncho, though I wonder how practical it is and whether I would wear it much. I also love the yak scarf, it’s monstrously big but I like that. The oat coloured cashmere wool cardi is lovely too, but I think that style just doesn’t work that great for me, so I will return that. I also got the charcoal raglan cashmere wool cardi - I had tried on a S in store and it was a little too neat for me, but the M looks too big. The sale scattered floral pyjamas are a keeper - thankfully went for a size bigger than all my old Toast pjs.

So….do I need either the poncho or the yak scarf….or both? Does anyone have the poncho? How do you wear it? Some photos so you can all help me decide!

I have some more pyjamas on the way, and will probably keep a second pair of any of them work. But I need pyjamas so that is ok.
I bought a big cashmere scarf in Cos the other day (slightly smaller than the Toast cashmere wrap ones) in almost the same colour as the poncho, but it is still wrapped up, so that will have to go back if I keep the poncho or yak scarf. I really like the Cos scarf but somehow it looks boring in comparison to the Toast options.

MiracleToast · 08/01/2024 15:30

@ScottishMouse I vote the poncho! That looks absolutely perfect for this freezing weather we are having and truly looks like you could wear it over anything

AFingerofFudge · 08/01/2024 15:31

@Noeggsontoast and @Snowyowl78 can I ask you about the indigo wrap jumpsuit? Mine has arrived, it is indeed a little big and flared around the legs but I really like it! How does it fare with toilet trips when out and about?? Blush

MiracleToast · 08/01/2024 15:32

My second sale drop is a flop, sadly. The green check wool trousers I got in the recommended size but they’re too big and I’m not sure I like them enough to exchange. The brown cashmere wrap cardigan is gorgeous but there was only a size small available when ordering and although it does fit it’s pretty short. Both of these were high on my wish list so it’s a bit sad. Consolation sheepskin hottie on its way to me.

faustina · 08/01/2024 15:39

@ScottishMouse - the scarf looks really wonderful. The poncho ... what happens when you need to use your arms? Doesn't it sort of bunch up or restrict your movement? I mean, I'm typing this on a sofa and have one arm on the sofa arm and the other by my side (on a sort of tilt) - I think it might feel a bit straitjackety if I were wearing it

lordloveadog · 08/01/2024 15:40

@Countmeout no, I wouldn't say the duffle is particularly long. I'm about 5 7 and wouldn't mind it being longer - though I like long coats. Can measure it if you like.

Noeggsontoast · 08/01/2024 15:45

@FingerofFudge I find it really straightforward. Whereas my rear buttoning jumpsuit is a definite challenge!

Snowyowl78 · 08/01/2024 15:46

@AFingerofFudge i find it one of the easiest jumpsuits to get on and off. Doing up all the buttons is a bit of a pain but worth it! I wore a wool top under it the other day and that was a bit annoying as it didn’t slide off so easily. I wear it tied at the front.

Snowyowl78 · 08/01/2024 15:47

@Noeggsontoast which rear buttoned one do you have? I have the black v neck and it’s a bit tricky
