Does anyone have any tips for trousers which don't 'grow'/go baggy?

I find that a lot of the trousers I like (from Toast and elsewhere) can only be worn for one day and then have to be washed to reshape. They go baggy especially around knees.

I'm actually going to sell some of my denim trousers from Toast because they don't even last a day - by the time I get home they're all flobby.

But then others don't have the issue or much less. For example the Polka stripe ikat fisherman trousers. I find I can wear those for several days, which is much more convenient, especially when travelling.

For me, the belted forward seam trousers in blue and green and the un-belted version in khaki (?) works fine without getting baggy

Thanks Bettina!

The jumpsuit and the Dark olive V neck dress arrived.
Jumpsuit size 10 is perfect, probably my favourite toast item.
Beautiful twill fabric , the top is more fitted than the lower half and I think you need a fairly small bust and nipped in waist as it's very neat on the waist and top.
The trouser bit is roomier and draped so if you need to size up on the bust then the bottom will be too big.

The Dark olive V neck dress is disappointing, no where near the nice fit of the black Jersey V neck.
The armholes are cut so low so my bra and those wrinkly bits at the front of my armpit show, I've got very slim arms and shoulders but this made it so unflattering and meh.
It was a nice length but surprisingly it's a double fabric, check lining.( like the other check crinkle dresses)
I might ask for the measurements of the small but fear it would fit on the top but cling to my bum 😄

Snowyowl78 · 12/02/2024 21:13

@Alpacasoft i found that with the olive dress too, I think as it is double fabric it’s more clingy and the Medium clung around the waist area but then the large was too big and looked bulky. I did consider keeping the large and thinking it might shrink to something between the two and be perfect! In the end I returned it because by then I’d recieved the same said jumpsuit and decided to keep that!

I dont like using this word but it felt frumpy whereas I feel so stylish in the black.
I think you are right the double fabric adds bulk when you want drape plus in summer it will be too hot

Qweesh · 12/02/2024 21:30

Ah well, that’s the olive dress off the list then!

Snowyowl78 · 12/02/2024 21:50

@Alpacasoft @Qweesh its annoying because I was very excited. I think if they did something in between the M and the L I would keep it. Also, I tried the blue one and I didnt like that as much either! I think the solution is to do the olive one but in the same fabric as the black! I also want the olive colour in the v jersey jumpsuit. I didn’t like that in blue As much either!

Yes I agree Olive jersey.
The double fabric feels too thick and just isn't " right"

I think if you want to layer rather than wear as a summer dress it would work but if it's warm enough for bare arms you won't want a double fabric.

Countmeout · 13/02/2024 11:12

Disappointing to hear that about the olive dress. I’m hoping for somethings more summery in the March drop.

For anyone interested in experiences with washing stuff I washed a Mira sweater and one of my large wraps in a 30 degree C wash on a 14 minute programme with an 800 spin and they came out perfectly. I just couldn’t face hand washing the wrap in the sink,

It is disappointing to hear that about the Olive dress. I would be unlikely to wear it layered so I’ve saved myself some money for the next drop. Hurrah.

Dee1224 · 13/02/2024 15:23

Thanks for the washing info @Countmeout - I don’t wear my knitwear much due to the horror of handwashing so I am always looking for tips on using the machine!

OftenOrange · 13/02/2024 15:53

It’s interesting that the Olive dress is getting thumbs down , I think that last year’s black jersey is a hard act to follow. It’s so perfect and nothing can beat black for something so simple .
I bought that and the tie waist navy jumpsuit and they’re my favourite pieces . It’s so easy to be seduced by colour and pattern but in the end I find I get bored and also that I don’t reach for them because they need more deliberate choice of shoes , coat etc.

I love the look of the new jumpsuit too , obviously very similar to the tie waist so am I foolish to buy it ?
Does anyone have both ?

Snowyowl78 · 13/02/2024 18:22

@OftenOrange i have both! The new one is slightly more summery it being short sleeved. I probably won’t wear the wrap one in high summer.
Its also less work to do up. It’s a bit more conservative too I think you could wear it to any occasion whereas I think the tie one is amazing and my favourite but it’s something people comment on every time and maybe you don’t always want that.

That said I haven’t worn the new one properly yet, fooling myself there might be some sort of discount incoming. I’ll probably wear it this weekend though. I’m going to wash it first as I suspect it might leak indigo like the wrap one did for me.

OftenOrange · 13/02/2024 18:41

Thanks for your experience @Snowyowl78 . I haven’t worn the tie waist since
October , I shiver at the thought at the moment . I love wearing it with sandals and a big scarf .
I spend Summers in a very hot place so maybe should get the new one to keep over there .

Snowyowl78 · 13/02/2024 18:54

Ooh I’ve been wearing mine in winter @OftenOrange sometimes with a wool tencel tee

OftenOrange · 13/02/2024 21:09

@Snowyowl78 I get a fixation about wearing items a specific way , I had hoped Toast may broaden my mind , but no, jumpsuit is forever April to October for me !

Snowyowl78 · 13/02/2024 21:12

@OftenOrange not long to go now!

Dee1224 · 14/02/2024 14:01

Hi all, I am off to Toast tomorrow so if anyone wants me to look at anything in particular, then let me know!

TerrierOrTerror · 14/02/2024 15:33

My olive crinkle dress turned up - contrary to recent posters I quite like it, but it is much too long on me. Debating whether to keep and get taken up or wait until the next sale.

Countmeout · 14/02/2024 15:50

@Dee1224 may have misled you, it was maybe 400 spin speed, I had no lenses in at the time. I intend to wash another jumper so will check again.
I would just like to know if there is any sign of summer dresses etc in store /coming in soon. Although I have quite a few I like to have a new one. Interested in anything you see though.

Dee1224 · 14/02/2024 15:58

Thanks for letting me know @Countmeout

I will see if there is any sign of summer dresses being en route!

oddandelsewhere · 15/02/2024 11:17

Does anyone think there might be a sale soon? I was in the Llandeilo shop on Tuesday and they were packing things up to send back apparently. (I only saw men's cords, but they told me the charcoal cotton roll neck had gone, I wanted to try it)

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 15/02/2024 11:39

Did anyone watch the homeware live with Martina from the Venetian Pantry? I got totally distracted by the fact she was wearing a coat indoors and waiting for her to take it off.

@oddandelsewhere I didn't buy any sale bits until June last year. Maybe they're just making space for the next drop.

oddandelsewhere · 15/02/2024 11:47

Thank you@Theteapotsbrokenspout that's probably it. New things would be good!
