Blingy buttons
OTT logos
Embellishments like diamanté or pearls on things like tee shirts or jeans
Collars that look odd and don’t seem to go with the item of clothing.
Naff sayings/statements

Ruched anything!
’Disney adult’ clothes-actually, cartoon anything. SpongeBob, Mickey Mouse, Snoopy on grown up clothes. Stop it! And you can leave Nirvana alone too thanks, Primark and New Look.

Keepthecat · 03/01/2024 19:26

Peplums
Frills - anywhere, on anything
Slogans/logos
Half belts on back of coats
Elasticated waist on dresses
Polyester/acrylic
Diamante
Animal prints in non-animal colours, eg green leopard print
POLO NECKS on jumpers - so many in the shops and so hideously unflattering for so many people.
tiered skirts/dresses - make me look even bigger than I am.

Anything that isn't made sustainably and fairly. I don't mind a charity shop as I'm not outright funding the crooked ways of the world.

Watch The True Cost (I believe its on YouTube, amongst others). It'll really put into perspective how embellishments/dimontes etc are not a problem in the clothing industry in comparison to how they're made 98% of the time.

Also, for the record yes, I know they "need to earn a living", but it's hardly fair when you take the time to sit back, watch and acknowledge the utter horror that the people that make our clothes live in on a daily basis.

It always makes my heart sink when I see the industry promoting yet another season of sequin party dresses. I just think of all that horrible plastic contaminating the planet.

No pockets where there should be
Pockets where there shouldn't be

Viscose
Modal
Eco-wotsit
Recycled polyester
Logos
Polyester cotton
Shiny synthetics
Pink
puff sleeves
3/4 sleeves
ankle grazers
cropped anything

Poor stitching
No drape
Poor cut

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 03/01/2024 19:51

Pockets where there shouldn't be

There was a fashion a few years ago for small pointless patch pockets near the hem of jumpers. They looked crap. Too small to get a hand in.

BigMandsTattooPortfolio · 03/01/2024 19:54

Patchwork anything. I mean, WHY?

GettingStuffed · 03/01/2024 20:14

Online, buying trousers that don't give the leg length . Shoes that don't give width missing, buttons on front as they always gape.
Crêpe, rough polyester, I don't mind the really soft stuff.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 03/01/2024 20:36

Massive logos
Synthetic fabrics (unless sportswear)
Sparkly thread
Body length too short
Waist height too low (trousers) or high (dresses).
So many things...

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 03/01/2024 20:37

Frills, bows, buckles, ruffles, ruching

IKissedKermit · 03/01/2024 20:38

Ripped denim, I think this is so uncool that someone would pay good money for a pair of jeans that has been ripped identically to the next pair on the rack. This is the ultimate sign of a society that has more money than sense. Fair dues to anyone who customises their own older jeans.

Neons. Also mustard, cold turquoise, yellow.

Branding, I'm especially thinking of all those handbags and accessories with LV or bunnies, also the Nike swoosh.

Slogans that urge people (specifically women and girls) to 'be kind' to people (men).

Rainbows, particularly the ones with the extra alphabet soup.

Cut outs including but not limited to cold shoulders.

Buttons can be changed. I remember changing about 20 buttons from gold to navy on a culottes suit bought on sale once and it transformed it.

OverTheGrip · 03/01/2024 20:42

Cold shoulder
ripped jeans
animal print other than accessories
ridiculous heels
pearl or shiny metal buttons

coxesorangepippin · 03/01/2024 21:17

Shoelaces on tops

Logos

BigMandsTattooPortfolio · 03/01/2024 21:22

Metallic thread. Apart from anything else I’m allergic to it.

whyamiawakestill · 03/01/2024 21:41

Short boxy jumpers
Glitter
Static

saturnspinkhoop · 03/01/2024 21:49

Dry clean only
Low back pockets on jeans. My bum is saggy enough as it is. Those back pockets which are half on the bum and half on the thigh really aren’t flattering.

minipie · 03/01/2024 22:03

Agree about low jeans pockets

And a mention for horizontal fade lines (I think it’s called whiskering?) on the thigh/hip crease of jeans. I don’t need that bit to look any wider thanks.

DuesToTheDirt · 03/01/2024 22:11

Agree with short, boxy jumpers. Just make me look even more shapeless than I actually am.

Really, I find so many things are unflattering.

AsCoolAsKimDeal · 03/01/2024 22:11

Exposed zips, they make even expensive garments look cheap

Nubnut · 03/01/2024 22:12

muddyford · 03/01/2024 17:16

Tacky polyester bows on cotton knickers. M&S were the worst at this. Just why?!

God, yes

BlowDryRat · 03/01/2024 22:15

Anything Disney or other cartoon characters.
Polyester.
Otherwise lovely tops or dresses ruined by an odd patch sequin applique. M&S used to be terrible for that.
Dry-clean or hand wash only everyday items.

terriblyangryattimes · 03/01/2024 22:21

Open backs on dresses that look great from the front. I need to wear a bra!

Cold shoulder / Peep holes on anything.

Butterflies 🤮

Diamante anything (apart from buttons as I'll happily change them if I like something enough)

Button fly as opposed to a zip - who has the time?

Slogans/phrases or big logos

Blocky stripes

Tiered dresses where the seam is too close to your belly, not flattering!

Polyester

cannaethink · 03/01/2024 22:34

Frills/tiers
Raw edge/unhemmed jeans
V neck tops
Boots with zips
Pockets on dresses
Excessive fading on jeans
Fake leather
Winter coat with no hood, unless it’s a wool coat.

RobertaFirmino · 03/01/2024 22:34

I'm a second hand shopper so absolutely anything described as 'gorgeous', 'stunning' or 'flippy'.

Netcam · 03/01/2024 22:37

Never buy dry clean only

MidnightMeltdown · 03/01/2024 22:37

High waisted trousers that give you a paunch of loose fabric when you sit down and/or make you look like Humpty Dumpty

Thin modal that creases as soon as you look at it. I also dislike linen, polyester and acrylic

Orange stitching on jeans

Any type of fringe detail I absolutely hate

Polo necks or anything too low cut

Empire lines

Anything that is dry clean only (unless it's a coat or jacket)

Designer logos
