Blingy buttons
OTT logos
Embellishments like diamanté or pearls on things like tee shirts or jeans
Collars that look odd and don’t seem to go with the item of clothing.
Naff sayings/statements

Frilly collar
Frilly cuffs
More frills

Couldn't have put it better myself!

ThriceThriceThice · 03/01/2024 17:37

Pussy bows or Diana/Dynasty collars on blouses
Open neck summer blouses/dresses with drawstrings or tassles
Polo or roll neck jumpers/dresses
Cheap buttons

They are out on to make the front easily identifiable, as the label now goes in the side seam.

So they made the problem by moving the label? And 'solved' it by adding extraneous crap.

Georgyporky · 03/01/2024 17:38

Re-cycled fabric. I've got a M&S fleece that smells strange after every wearing and it's not me !

I also hate slogans.

For some reason, the makers of children’s clothes seem especially keen on sticking slogans all over them.

The reasons for smothering children's clothes in slogans is that is cheaper than sewing on any trims that may make the garment more interesting.
Often the designs will start out with perhaps cuffs, zips, buttons, contrast trims ... then they are stripped out to save on production costs. So in order to give the garment some element of "interest" (otherwise it would be very plain), the cheapest way is to print a slogan on it.

Sharontheodopolodous · 03/01/2024 17:45

All the above and odd details sewn badly on

Years ago, everything seemed to have these cheap jewels, that looked like fake diamonds, held on with a thin bit of stitching

Bloody horrible

I didn't buy anything for ages because of that

Anything that is boxy-i don't want to look like a plastic bag

Anything that's not hemmed-looking at you knickers manufacturers

Cheap fabrics

Anything where the buttons are held on with 2 stitches-i don't have time to sew them back on (looking at you, work uniform-we're stuck with each other)

Thin fabric-I don't want to sweat like I'm wearing my oodie but some warmth would be nice

Anything with no 'give'

I put my knee out trying to put jeans on

DuesToTheDirt · 03/01/2024 17:45

Buttons. I have an aversion to buttons. Metal ones on jeans are ok, but that's about it - especially those decorative nonfunctional buttons you sometimes get round necklines, they're a dealbreaker for me.

HolidayAtNight · 03/01/2024 17:45

Oversized clothing or unstructured jackets/dresses. I love the look on others but it does not love me!

Elasticated waists on trousers. Especially expensive trousers that look great, and then you see the photo of the back and there it is...

KettleOn919 · 03/01/2024 17:46

High crew necks on t shirts. Deep v necks on t shirts.

LadyGeorginaSmythe · 03/01/2024 17:48

I can't stand decorative or chunky external zips...I always catch a nail. Plus they look tacky.

Don't like flouncy, girly ethereal styling.

I don't mind a word (not a full on slogan) on a t-shirt/casual top to be honest, but I'm also not paying much for these items anyway.

My clothes budget is small to non-existent so I often end up wearing stuff I'm not super 100% loving but it's what I can get in George or Tu.

UserM6 · 03/01/2024 17:49

Just because it says dry clean only it doesn't mean it needs to be. I plonk in anything and everything and adjust heat and detergent type as required.

I like everyone hate acrylic and how it looks after a (very) few wears.
Won't buy anything with a fitted button front after two many accidents
won't but anything new unless its in the sale. It will always be in the sale, on eBay or Vinted at some point.

usernother · 03/01/2024 17:49

Pockets in trousers
Sparkly bits (Next love this)
Dry clean only on inexpensive clothes
Large logos of the brand name
Logos in general. Sometimes unavoidable but I'm not a fan.

Changedmymind99 · 03/01/2024 17:51

Synthetic materials, slogans such as bee kind, particularly on kids clothes. Born in <year>

Loose fitting/shapeless.

not suitable for shorter woman or taller woman.

again, synthetic material. Yuck.

Tootytoot78 · 03/01/2024 17:52

I have koumpounophobia, (fear of buttons) so even if I like an article of clothing if I think the buttons are horrible, it's a big no from me.

spanishviola · 03/01/2024 17:54

No pockets
Buttons on shirt sleeves half way up your arm so if you roll the sleeves down you have dangling bits
Frills and superfluous buttons
Assymetric anything
Cropped tops
Polyester
Batwing sleeves
Boat necks
Wrap dresses, jackets, tops or cardigans
Huge prints
Black/white prints
Flounces or tiers
Cap sleeves

BigcatLittlecat · 03/01/2024 17:55

Cold shoulder top! I can't stand them!

Lilacanemone · 03/01/2024 17:57

Polyester
puffy or frilly sleeves
anything that doesn’t cover bra straps
wafty oversized things
skin tight stretch things

Brexile · 03/01/2024 18:00

Yy to frills and peplums, horrible! Also anything oversized on the top half - not really a 'detail', but you sometimes can't tell on the hanger if a jacket has excessively padded shoulders or is cut like a bin liner. Makes me look 3 feet tall and 3 feet wide.

Imnotadentist · 03/01/2024 18:01

Anything that looks like a one season wonder. This season that’s been silver leather trousers, sheepskin car coats, and the acne oversized check scarf. Love em all, but haven’t bought them.
Also I’m getting better at checking the dry clean only labels. I was stalking the Bella Freud 1970s jumper for ages only to find it was dry clean and Bella recommends dry cleaning it every 6 wears. That’s never going to happen not least because all the dry cleaners round here have shut down.

ChristmasinBurrRidge · 03/01/2024 18:01

Pockets - revolting things

SwedishEdith · 03/01/2024 18:04

So much already said.

Anything vaguely blingy, Cheshire Housewives.
Anything that looks like cruise wear - dinner with the captain.
Animal print.
Cheap dyes - something just off about the shade.
Logos on clothes - difficult to avoid on shoes/footwear now.
Cut outs - exposed backs, shoulders and waists love handles is not a good look.
Low cut on ordinary day wear tops so need to put a stitch in first.
Man-made fabrics.

Schoolrunmumbun · 03/01/2024 18:06

BigcatLittlecat · 03/01/2024 17:55

Cold shoulder top! I can't stand them!

Someone on MN called these tops "peeping potatoes" tops a few years ago, still makes me laugh

WhatNoUsername · 03/01/2024 18:09

Clothes that are dry clean only, anything that can't be tumble dried, anything that needs ironing, anything that has to be washed at 30. I'll make exceptions fit these for special occasion wear but not for everyday wear items.

KettleOn919 · 03/01/2024 18:09

Jackets that do up with a single button. Trainers with soles that project beyond the back of the shoe. Anything with pom poms, like those suede boots that were all over the place a few years ago.

Denimdenimdenim · 03/01/2024 18:09

Fake pockets.
Randomly placed zips that open to nothing - why!!
Anything with quotes.
