Will I be overdressed in this for NYE??

First time away (city break) with a guy I'm seeing, coinciding with New Years Eve. I bought this dress to wear with black ankle boots and a leather jacket.

Going for an early dinner which doesn't help but is the only availability for where we want to go. Then he's mentioning pubs rather than bars.

Will I be overdressed? It fits like a dream so I'd gutted to change it but don't want to feel self conscious all night either!

Massively over-dresed

I take it the pub is in Seville?
¡Olé!

😂😂😂

It’s lovely!

You say that like it’s a bad thing…

It is

Hullabalooza · 29/12/2023 21:03

It’s lovely! The sort of outfit I’d see someone wearing and wish I could carry off. Ignore the sarky comments, go for it. When I read the thread title, I expected to see a head to toe sequin jumpsuit… this is perfect- just the right balance of fancy yet not ott. Keep jewellery simple, eye makeup light and let the dress shine.

AllstarFacilier · 29/12/2023 21:10

I’d always rather risk being overdressed than underdressed.

puffyisgood · 29/12/2023 21:14

anything goes on NYE but in general i think it's more one for a party than a 'table for two' type setup.

MuckyPlucky · 29/12/2023 21:20

I’m sorry but I think it’s too fussy. Manages to be both overdressed but also frumpy.

A v v confident biker-chick type lass could maybe just about carry it off with opaque tights, flat chunky boots, piercings…. But if you’re booking a spray tan for your legs I doubt you’ll be rocking that look…. In which case I just don’t think it’s the right dress, sorry.

Pommersy · 29/12/2023 21:22

I think it’s stunning. Go for it x

Pickingmyselfup · 29/12/2023 21:48

I like it and the boots and jacket tone it down well. It's NYE, get dressed up and have fun!

minipie · 29/12/2023 21:51

With opaque black tights (and boots and jacket) ok, on the dressy end of smart casual.

With bare legs - too much IMO. Even with boots and jacket.

willWillSmithsmith · 29/12/2023 21:57

I really like it. With boots it’ll look great and if it looks a bit Fleetwood Mac then all the better! Who wouldn’t want to be rocking a Stevie Nicks look on NYE (or any night!)

jackstini · 29/12/2023 22:39

Perfect for York! Have a fabulous night

Italiangreyhound · 30/12/2023 02:24

looks amazing.

NonPlayerCharacter · 30/12/2023 10:19

I'm usually dressed smarter than everyone else in the rook simply because I look shit in casual clothes. Response is generally positive. Wear it and enjoy.

Thecatmaster · 30/12/2023 11:48

It's NYE. You wouldn't look out of place wearing a feather bower and head plume. Just wear what you want. Stop feeling self conscious. Life's too short for that crap. Always dress how you wish in what makes you feel good. There is nothing more attractive than someone who is self assured. No need to spray tan the legs. Just be you.

Belleoftheball83 · 29/12/2023 17:07

@jackstini York! Never been before :)

It'll be more than fine for York (I live here!).

Fishandchips1980 · 30/12/2023 12:33

I would definitely wear it if you like and feel good in it. Life is too short to worry about being overdressed/undressed. It will lovely with what you have described 😊

BIossomtoes · 30/12/2023 14:00

Belleoftheball83 · 28/12/2023 17:46

Thanks everyone. I rarely (if ever!) Dress up so you're making me feel better about wearing it! Got my spray tan booked to sort out my pasty legs, I might just dial back jewellery etc

It needs tights and flat boots.

Blueink · 30/12/2023 15:11

I think perfect with your boots, jacket and pared back jewellery. Also light make up but a bold lip like red or plum.

Blueink · 30/12/2023 15:18

Black sheer or opaque tights, I prefer opaque but don’t think it matters… if you were thinking bare legs, go for sheer.

Pinkespressomachine · 30/12/2023 20:24

Life is too short to not wear the dress!

I’d go for opaque tights in this weather though.

Whenever I doll myself up for a big night I always notice women who’ve really gone to town & wish I’d stepped it up a notch… just wear the dress with a big smile & you’ll look amazing.

ginslinger · 30/12/2023 20:29

if you like the dress then wear it and if other people don't like it, that's their problem
if this guy doesn/t like it then you've dodged a bullet early. Don't change yourself to suit other people

2under4 · 30/12/2023 22:22

It's great! People do dress up NYE I'm sure you won't be overdressed...

Clafoutie · 30/12/2023 23:31

Goldypants · 28/12/2023 17:56

It’s the back bit.
You’ll look a bit Fleetwood Mac

Well, probably showing my age here, but looking a bit Fleetwood Mac would be a plus in my book! Stevie Nicks was a goddess!
I think it is very sexy OP, but also subtle, it is lovely.
As another poster said, if it makes YOU feel happy, and comfortable then really that is all that matters. Sounds like an exciting trip, enjoy it!
