Will I be overdressed in this for NYE??

First time away (city break) with a guy I'm seeing, coinciding with New Years Eve. I bought this dress to wear with black ankle boots and a leather jacket.

Going for an early dinner which doesn't help but is the only availability for where we want to go. Then he's mentioning pubs rather than bars.

Will I be overdressed? It fits like a dream so I'd gutted to change it but don't want to feel self conscious all night either!

I'd wear with 40 denier tights and boots to tone down a little but it's fine if you are more daring than me

anothernamechangeagainsndagain · 29/12/2023 08:04

Ps we are wearing black tie to the pub on Sunday night, round our way that's normal for nye, I have a short cocktail dress

northernsunshine · 29/12/2023 09:26

I love it! It’s nice to dress up and make an effort, go for it!

Worldgonecrazy · 29/12/2023 09:27

I think it’s lovely and something that you will get a lot of wear out of.

We are going full black tie (think James Bond casino extras!) and don’t care if everyone else is in jeans and T-shirt. It’s our NYE and we feel like celebrating.

Hope you have a fabulous evening!

dudsville · 29/12/2023 09:30

Is it the back dropped sorry that makes you qu3stion it? I think for nye almost anything goes, but also the way you describe wearing it sounds perfect. Have fun!

Cyclingmummy1 · 29/12/2023 09:41

Definitely not overdressed. Its NYE.

Jf20 · 29/12/2023 09:47

I think it’s over dressed for pubs and an early dinner, I’m sorry, it’s lovely though

with leather jacket though and clumpy boots thick tights you could make it a bit goth like if that’s your normal style

Pigeon31 · 29/12/2023 10:04

Its lovely, and you won't feel self conscious after you've had a drink! Just enjoy the compliments ;)

Completelydonechick · 29/12/2023 10:50

Wear it, rock it, love it! Why are you worried about the judgement of others? Feel good about you xx

VictoriasSponges · 29/12/2023 10:53

IMO yes but I'm a conservative dresser.

Sorry but the idea of a flamenco dancer comes to mind and if you are going to pubs I think you will look very out of place.

EveryOtherNameTaken · 29/12/2023 11:18

I went to a pub last night and most people were dressed up which is unusual but is because of this time of year. I think it totally fits for NYE. It can be dressed up or down with different tights/boots.

I love it.

Ohnotyoutoo · 29/12/2023 12:56

Looks great for NYE at the pub! I'd team it with heeled boots.

My local is hosting a bloody pyjama party on NYE. I am so disappointed. Who wants to wear PJs on NYE?? 😭

jackstini · 29/12/2023 14:00

@Belleoftheball83 - pleeeeease tell us which city you will be in!

Wherearemybooks · 29/12/2023 16:54

No you won't.

I would also add that you can almost never be overdressed for any party or occasion.

I absolutely bloody love dressing up!

Why??? Why would they do this????

I feel your despair!

Belleoftheball83 · 29/12/2023 17:07

@jackstini York! Never been before :)

I wouldn't wear it to a pub normally but, for NYE, it's absolutely fine. Anything goes in York, anyway, because they're so used to stags/hens/students.

Definitely opaque tights for the pub though. You can always put them on after the meal, if you want to flash a bit of leg beforehand.

Have an amazing evening.

Sparkletastic · 29/12/2023 17:28

Opaque tights, boots and leather jacket would make it work.

Goldypants · 28/12/2023 17:56

It’s the back bit.
You’ll look a bit Fleetwood Mac

You say that like it’s a bad thing…

Cwtshcwtsh · 29/12/2023 19:07

Wow. If you can get away with it, wear it.

mommatoone · 29/12/2023 19:36

Looks fab!! We went to our local at tea time on xmas eve and noticed how many were dressed up. Sequins, velvet numbers, the lot .it was lovely to see! Enjoy🥂x

Iwantamarshmallowman · 29/12/2023 19:42

I think it's perfect. will look fab with boots and a leather jacket

Begsthequestion · 29/12/2023 20:01

Lovely dress! No need to tone it down imo, esp in a city on NYE. Would look great with heels or boots, and if you're tanning then no need for black tights.

ShouldGoToBed · 29/12/2023 20:04

I think that will be perfect. I was on the fence a bit before you said York but people get very dressed up in northern cities and there will be loads of girls with legs out.

caringcarer · 29/12/2023 20:08

If you can't dress up over NYE when can you. It looks fab.
