@SenecaFallsRedux I think you have it.

gluenotsoup · 27/12/2023 21:40

I haven’t seen the coronation documentary but think I’ll see if I can find it on something, it sounds fascinating in the detail.
I’d like to think that the sandringham scarf is a bit of a fun present. Like wearing matching silly Christmas jumpers but a scarf instead, and that they all sat round chortling after a few g&t’s and decided to wear them en masse to see if anyone noticed. And we did 😆😬

I think some of the Chattos were wearing the scarf as well. My guess is that everybody got one. Maybe Charles left little welcome bags in everyone's room with a scarf and other assorted goodies.

I think you might be spot on here. Maybe a gesture of welcoming the extended family that we're staying and also subtly marking a change.

I rather hope they also got Highgrove champagne, some chocolate gingers and maybe the lemon biscuits in case of the munchies.

Just browsing the Highgrove shop now for the Christmas offers...

So many questions. None of us know. At least it wasn't sponsoring a goat somewhere, or a Dove bath set. (disliked Christmas gifts may differ).

😂

I thought it was fascinating. The skill of the jewellers and the needleworkers in particular was very impressive.
The sapphire in the crown belonged to Edward the Confessor, the pearls to Mary, Queen of Scots. Plus,of course, the Cullinan diamond 💎 Amazing.

Evening all

I've caught up with the Coronation documentary and what struck me was how warm KC & QC seem.
And how Princess Anne spoke about him.

Made me feel warm and fuzzy nothing to do with what Ive been drinking 😂

Vitriolinsanity · 28/12/2023 13:37

I was completely absorbed by the documentary. Anne's affection for KC is warmly reciprocal isn't it, and his grandchildren obviously think he's ace.

I also enjoyed QC's "boys" and the faces of the non royal kids when they stepped out onto the balcony and saw the crowd.

The craftsmanship was exquisite.

themessygarden · 28/12/2023 15:25

Watched the documentary on Youtube, it was absolutely wonderful, such a great insight into it all. Balmoral looks idyllic.

Maireas · 28/12/2023 15:45

I thought the same, @themessygarden - I'd love to tramp around Balmoral, it looks so lovely.

Came across as a loving family to me which was lovely to see. ‘Old bean’!

Lady Frederick Windsor talking about her life in the family, and her accident. They all seem to have been very kind and supportive. Lovely article, and she looks stunning.

Lady Frederick Windsor is the Lady of Belgravia in a costume drama of her own creation on the cover of the February issue

Sophie Winkleman is a woman of parts: a real-life royal who met her husband, Lord Frederick Windsor, on a night out in Soho; a tormented 19th-century duchess in Julian Fellowes’s new series of Belgravia; and a ‘dear friend’ of King Charles – and the ‘a...

@Maireas that's a lovely article.

themessygarden · 28/12/2023 19:03

@Maireas thank you for that link, I don't know much about her, she is very beautiful. Lovely to hear how she and her family were supported after her accident. Interesting the names she doesn't mention as 'her friends in the extended RF'. 🤔

Occasional2023 · 28/12/2023 20:34

As soon as I saw Prince Louis wearing tartan trousers on Monday, I wondered if it was the pair that George wore a few years ago when he was photographed along with the late Queen, Charles and William.

wideawakeinthemiddleofthenightagain · 28/12/2023 20:42

I thought that that was a lovely article too. Although I did laugh when I read that King Charles instructed his chef to make them meals. As a chef at Clarence House, do you just take that sort of thing in your stride or do you do a bit of a double take and think to yourself "you're asking me to do what? Great!". When we had a nanny, I think we always treated her fairly but I know some of her friends had storied about being loaned to other families or being told they were expected to look after half a dozen additional children as well as their usual charges and that sort of thing without ever being asked if it was OK.

Maireas · 28/12/2023 21:50

Well, I suspect that it was either an additional chef or time and money was made available!
By all accounts KC is not mean with staff and has a low turnover.

Just had a good read of that article! I do like her style. She strikes me as 'old school beautiful' in a Vivian Leigh sort of way.
Interesting to see her name check those who have shown her warmth..

Lunde · 29/12/2023 18:56

So did Kate borrow her Christmas hat from Zara? It seems to be identical to one that Zara wore in 2019.

Kate wore a hat very like that some years ago. Perhaps Zara borrowed it !

Perhaps they do hat swaps?

DuchessOfPort · 29/12/2023 23:05

Re the meals offered, I THINK that the chef in question might also have a hand in cooking staff lunches en masse so perhaps an extra 2 were added and taken to Battersea daily.

KnickerlessParsons · 31/12/2023 15:22

Is that Prince Richard on the left
of the photo?

Maireas · 31/12/2023 15:40

Yes, it looks like him.
The blue coat is a nice bright colour.
