A couple of empties posts from me.

Beauty Pie Footopia foot cream. Was ok. Nice smell.

Crabtree & Evelyn Hand cream. Very old! Was ok.

Herbivore Jasmine body oil. Again just ok.

Lumene Arctic Berry serum. From a JL advent calendar. Quite nice but no plans to RP.

Ultrasun spf for eyes. Have already RP. Doesn’t sting my eyes which can be a big issue for me.

Bondi Sands tinted SPF. Stung my eyes. It’s not empty but I junked it as it came out quite badly in a Which survey into SPFs. Surprised me as it’s Australian and I rate their SPFs usually.

Simple moisturising facial wash. I tend to buy this when travelling. Will probably RP next trip.

Kat Burki Vitamin C Intensive Moisturiser. Got this in a Caroline Hirons kit. Wasn’t keen. Found it quite drying.

Curel intensive moisturiser. Loved this. Will def RP at some stage.

Jordan Samual Skin Matinee cleanser. Was ok.

111 Skin sheet mask. From a GWP I think. Didn’t notice anything major.

111 under eye masks. Ok. But again didn’t notice anything major.

Hask keratin smoothing conditioner. Nice and hydrating.

@Experiment627 as someone with EDS I can’t tell you how much starting with the feet helps. I think the podiatrist has eased more pain than any other specialist in my lifetime. Best of luck!!!

That's interesting about the podiatrist. Dd has EDS and hasn't managed to find a good physio since the excellent one she had age 11/12 moved away. I will mention podiatry to her.

Fraaahnces · 27/06/2024 11:15

I’m no expert but something about starting from the ground up and getting the balance right really helped me out. It took a wee bit of getting used to but once things were working more in concert there was less pain everywhere else.
Can also recommend Feldenkreis Technique for gently strengthening back while aligning stuff out. Can be done at home.
Here is one of many, many examples of free videos on YouTube. Really good for propriaception as well as gently working painful joints.

Experiment627 · 27/06/2024 11:33

@Fraaahnces are you in a lot of pain? 🫶🏼 hopefully you are able to manage the EDS.

@Peridot1 I always cross my legs! Did not know that could misalign stuff 😲

@ItookYourJob admittedly I am not using Pureology Color Fanatic as often since I pit it through Yuka and saw it has a horrid ingredient in it 🙈 I actually prefer the Loreal Elvive bond repair leave in serum and the Pantene Instant frizz tamer. They are cheaper too. My thought on The Blowout Professor is that he has not yet dealt with someone with my hair type 🤣 yes I am THAT special 🤣🤣🤣

@Fraaahnces I went on a yoga retreat and the instructor really focused on Feldenwhatsaface - LOVED IT! Was only a 4 day retreat but what with the yoga sessions and the hydrotherapy and massages I had about 45 minutes with absolutely no pain in my body - glorious!

Thanks @Fraaahnces I'll send that on to her. She's just started her first adult job and will be on her feet a fair bit so anything that might help is great.

She recently had a session with a physio who is also double jointed. He gave her some strengthening exercises that take that in to account. Unfortunately the session was a once off as he was only here temporarily to do a post grad with a friend of mine.

Fraaahnces · 27/06/2024 11:53

I lucked out with my podiatrist. He had EDS too! Was soo great not to have to explain it all. I was only diagnosed a few years ago. Btw, has she had her eyes and heart scanned? (I have severe heart failure and am awaiting surgery atm.)

I'm sorry to hear that @Fraaahnces

Yes, she has had her heart scanned as a child and thankfully no issues. She has also had a recent assessment with a cardiologist due to the POTS but I'm not sure what was checked. She's never had anything other than normal eye tests. What should she be looking for in terms of tests?

Fraaahnces · 27/06/2024 14:44

@OchonAgusOchonOh - things like retinal detachment. As long as the optician knows she has EDS, I’m sure they’re checking thoroughly. They will also look at the pigmentation, shape and thickness of the cornea to assess the level of potential collagen loss.

OchonAgusOchonOh · 27/06/2024 15:40

Thanks @Fraaahnces I'll tell her that.

Problem is way too many healthcare workers know nothing about EDS so I wouldn't be sure he's checking.

Fraaahnces · 28/06/2024 10:49

You’re not wrong. A lot of healthcare workers assume it’s self-diagnosed via Dr Google.

Fraaahnces · 28/06/2024 10:49

You’re not wrong. A lot of healthcare workers assume it’s self-diagnosed via Dr Google.

In fairness, I had dd diagnosed via Dr Google (although I do use proper sources of actual research) long before she got an official diagnosis. She was at an ortho guy for something else and he was very dismissive and told her she didn't have EDS as she wasn't bad enough and she didn't have stretchy skin. He didn't check her skin, it is stretchy (she has pretty much every pointer possible to hypermobile EDS) and even if she didn't, 30% of people with hEDS don't have stretchy skin.

Fraaahnces · 28/06/2024 11:27

I was diagnosed at 48 when I dislocated my thumb doing cpr on a dummy. (Only me…) The hand surgeon went through my (very extensive) ortho history, leaned over and pinched my elbow skin, asked me to put my hands flat on the floor, took my blood pressure, asked me about fainting and hot weather/showers, etc (think Victorian heroine in very tight corset) referred me for cardiology tests, et voila… boxes ticked. All this time I just thought I was a klutz.

OchonAgusOchonOh · 28/06/2024 11:45

You were lucky the surgeon thought beyond "what can I do with a scalpel".

Dd faints all the time too. She does it very gracefully though. No face planting for her.

Our house is particularly klutzy. I have dyspraxia and dd obviously a klutz too. It's quite validating to know it's not actually your fault. I was only diagnosed last year, age 58. A friend is also dyspraxic and encouraged me to get diagnosed as we're both total klutzs.

Fraaahnces · 28/06/2024 23:09

All three of my kids have various symptoms but not full blown EDS. Hearts all good, which is great. They’ve been advised to get checked out every five years or so. I’m a bit jealous of the graceful fainting of your daughter. (Swooning, perhaps?) I’m more the sack of potatoes variety. Most recent faint was in the supermarket when some poor old lady accidentally bonked my ankles with her trolley. I thought the poor old duck was going to have her own heart attack - she thought she’d totally knocked me off the perch. I woke up looking up at the chips and this poor, white-faced old lady quite beside herself. I ended up checking her over and ensuring that she was okay. The supermarket staff were most confused.

OchonAgusOchonOh · 28/06/2024 23:42

Oh no. The poor woman! And poor you. Great your dc have no heart issues though.

Dd generally gets a bit of warning and then sort of neatly collapses. She finds quickly squeezing and releasing her calf muscles repeatedly can often prevent it. She was doing that the whole way up to collect her degree at her recent graduation as she could feel herself going as she stood up. Luckily she managed to prevent it. It would have been a tad embarrassing.

Fraaahnces · 28/06/2024 23:50

I find compression gear is (a bit) helpful. (Socks and belly band especially, but far too hot in summer where I live)

OchonAgusOchonOh · 29/06/2024 00:02

Do you get any warning? If you do, you could try the squeezing. It's squeeze the calves, hold a second or two, release and repeat. It gets the blood moving.

Fraaahnces · 29/06/2024 01:47

I do the squeezing thing… I go to a specialist physio when I can. Unfortunately I don’t always get much warning.
i thought I would share this for your daughter too. This is about Feldenkreis and propriaception. You might find it useful too. I used to do this when I was singing and had no idea that I was benefiting for other reasons. I love that I can use this at home for free. My physio now recommends these videos to her patients.

Wherediditgoto · 29/06/2024 08:13

The trouble is she doesn’t explain the whole process?

OchonAgusOchonOh · 29/06/2024 09:31

Thanks @Fraaahnces

MotherWol · 29/06/2024 10:29

Felt like treating myself to some new goodies after successfully using up a few things. The Botanista perfume is supposed to have green tomato leaf notes and I love grassy herbal scents for summer, so let’s see.

OchonAgusOchonOh · 29/06/2024 11:37

@Fraaahnces Dd says thanks. She's off to check out the videos

Fraaahnces · 29/06/2024 16:20

@OchonAgusOchonOh please explain that there are a bajillion Feldenkreis people out there and I am not attached to any of them. They’re all a bit fluffy, but this guy isn’t quite as Lycra and mung beans as some of them.

OchonAgusOchonOh · 29/06/2024 16:55

🤣🤣

Yes, the knitted mung bean sandal types can be a bit hard to bear.

That said, I do like mung beans. Wanders off to decide what to cook with mung beans during the week...
