@WhompingWillows yes! Saw it last year and it popped up on my Instagram this year. So tempted but I have two Roka backpacks already albeit in very dull colours.

@mizu my new bag is the highlight of my festive period. I’ve had another go as my teen is desperate for a new backpack.

Countmeout · 01/01/2024 10:18

A few bits added but all old stuff. Can anyone remember when the velvet went into sale last year? Was it summer?

Some restock of sizes and a few new to sale things, the only tasty item is the tie waist indigo jumpsuit in a tiny size.
I’m thinking 14 days after the beginning of the sale for newer items
, that way we can’t be reimbursed for a price drop.

Snowyowl78 · 01/01/2024 10:56

@Countmeout i bought the chocolate velvet jacket on 24th Jan last year

Countmeout · 01/01/2024 10:57

Thanks @Snowyowl78 .

Happy New Year, everyone!

@faustina - loving the humbug on you!

@Stoic123 - great 70s pic - my sister had that bus - I did a double take when I saw it!

I keep checking the sale but have only noticed one or two new additions and nothing suitable for me. I did buy another totally unnecessary bauble!

I am feeling very sorry for myself today as the ddog punished me for leaving him for 90 minutes last night by eating my beautiful coat that was my Xmas present to myself. It was a tkmaxx bargain and irreplaceable. He’s sat next to me on the settee atm like butter wouldn’t melt, but I can’t even look at him😿

faustina · 01/01/2024 12:50

Oh no @Dee1224 - that's a really shit way to start the year! Which coat was it? I could see if my local one has it if you like? Have you checked online too?

Thanks for the humbug like - I'm going to try a medium if it appears

Dee1224 · 01/01/2024 12:58

Hi, @faustina - it probably sounds silly, but I had been wanting a long black quilted coat for ages that didn’t make me look like the Michelin Man and my DKNY tkmaxx coat was it.

It looked a bit like this, but nicer:
https://www.tkmaxx.com/uk/en/women/clothing/jackets+coats/black-padded-jacket/p/09288152#mz-expanded-view-1548452002623

Mine was size M, 3/4 length, with a silver zipper, lovely soft black faux fur adjustable hood and a 0 degrees label on it. Synthetic filling, (I don’t do down), and no belt or buttons. It had been in the US originally and was labelled $300+ dollars. I got it for £99. It wasn’t on the website- I got it instore.

If you do see it on your travels, I would be very grateful if you would let me know.

faustina · 01/01/2024 13:14

@Dee1224 - I'll have a look next time I'm there

Dee1224 · 01/01/2024 13:30

Thanks @faustina !

Thanks @Snowyowl78 - I have never used Vinted, so it didn’t occur to me to look there. Mine was a bit shorter, without poppers. I do like that one but sadly I think it would be too small.

Here’s mine - DH has just dug it out of the bin so I have a picture to show. I know it’s not Toast, but it’s a lot nicer than it looks in this picture- like wearing a big hug.

It’s the back that is completely destroyed😿

sonjadog · 01/01/2024 13:32

Which bit did he eat? Is it not reparable?

Dee1224 · 01/01/2024 13:55

Hi @sonjadog - you can’t really see on the picture, but he has torn apart the whole of the back of the coat from the hood down! There were a whole load of older coats and wraps to choose from, but this was the one he destroyed 😾. All I could see when I walked in at 9pm last night was a sea of stuffing!

I keep telling myself it could have been worse - at least he didn’t destroy the hall cupboards, the wooden flooring, or my old, but much loved suede bag that was hanging next to it!

On an unrelated note: Toast have started adding some returns. Does anyone have the Chie Mihara boots and, if so, do you really have to size down?

I am also wondering if the Birkenstock slipper slides would be any good for me, given my ongoing bout of PF has meant I can no longer wear my beloved Ugg slippers. Does anyone have these? I think they might be too flat for my poorly foot. (I can currently only wear a truly ghastly pair of Hoka plastic slides in the house - horrible to look at, but good for my PF affected foot!)

Dee1224 · 01/01/2024 14:00

Meanwhile, to cheer myself up, I am wearing my Toast fisherman’s jumper that was a bargain from the pop up and my kindred gift socks.

I saved the socks for today as I have a thing about wearing something new for NY’s Day, (given the failure of my Toast sale purchases to date, the socks were what I had to hand!)

sonjadog · 01/01/2024 14:17

@Dee1224 Sorry about your coat. My old dog once ate a pair of new hikeboots on Boxing Day. We still talk about it 20 years on...

I don't know about Birkenstock slippers but I have several of the slip on sandals and they hugely helped with my PF. For me, it has to do with the arch support. I wear Birkenstock in summer, Ecco in winter, Hoka trainers, all with arch support and my PF has gone. If I wear other shoes, it comes back fairly quickly. I would imagine there are different reasons why PF occurs from person to person, but if you haven't tried the arch support route, it may be worth a go?

Dee1224 · 01/01/2024 14:30

Thanks @sonjadog - my PF came on in one foot only when I was laid up with Covid in July 22 and couldn’t get out of bed for nearly three weeks. Physio and podiatrist have both said it was because I had been lying with my foot curled up and the muscle shrank!

Thanks to Hokkas, arch supports and also wearing heels as much as I can tolerate, it’s got a lot better but is constantly lurking! I think I might order the Birkenstock slippers to try as they look lovely and I would like an alternative to the Hokka slides, (ugly but great for my foot!)

sonjadog · 01/01/2024 17:04

@Dee1224 Sorry to hear that, Dee. Covid does some strange things. I developed tinnitus after I had it summer 2022. It is still there but much better now than in the first months (when I thought I was going to go mad).

Dee1224 · 01/01/2024 17:20

I hope the tinnitus abates further @sonjadog 🤞

@Dee1224 oops, I think I was so shocked for you that I experienced a bad case of trigger finger! Just to say, if you fancy a coat upgrade (paid for by your contents insurance?) that there are several authentic Canada Goose coats on the TK Maxx website currently.

Dee1224 · 01/01/2024 18:41

Thanks @WhompingWillows - I did think about making a claim, (I would if it had been full price), but what I paid equals our excess. I just liked it because it was warm and cozy🙃I also donated my previous, somewhat battered version so I could justify its purchase, so I am even more annoyed!

Having said that, it’s so ridiculously mild here atm that I went out yesterday in only a thin jumper, so I think I will survive!

I am still contemplating the Chie Mihara boots, but a bit pricy at £215 reduced!

Countmeout · 01/01/2024 18:44

That dog does not like you @Dee1224 ! So sorry about your coat. Hope you can find a replacement.

Sadly, I think you may be right @Countmeout - he really really doesn’t like being left. The back room, (to which he has no access), is now stuffed full of my surviving coats- including my Viyella bargain, which is my favourite- so at least he didn’t get that!

I really have to step up my eBay selling this NY - my back room is full of stuff I need to either sell or donate.

I suppose I should be glad that- for me - this sale has been disappointing as I really don’t have room for more stuff!

@Dee1224 ahhh no, on the contrary, I think your DDog loves you too much - I write as the parent of two children with additional needs who find new & different ways to punish me every time I try to claim some semblance of a life for myself. Have you forgiven your DDog yet?

Dee1224 · 01/01/2024 19:32

Thank you @WhompingWillows - that has cheered me up a bit. I did relent and give him a tummy rub earlier this afternoon when he waved his paws at me with his legs in the air in his usual ever- hopeful fashion 🤣
